quirinus quirrell is in fact exactly what any pureblood wizard who knows of the quirrell family would expect. prideful in his superior intellect, quiri is often seen as the know-it-all, & for good reason. usually, he genuinely knows whatever he’s talking about. he was called crown jewel of ravenclaw house for his intellect & wit, & sometimes he’ll say things like ‘ i wasn’t crown jewel of ravenclaw house for nothing ’, which really shows that he has an ego in that matter. 

but, really, he doesn’t need to flaunt things for people to know that he’s talented. the amount of knowledge he has despite his young age & the number of talents he displays speaks for itself, y’know. this is a young man who was teaching right off of graduation, who outsmarted voldemort by playing the part of some weak, timid thing. someone who mastered nonverbal & wandless magic not because he wanted to show off, but for practical reasons, it was his own way of getting “additional help” & avoiding hurting other students by stumbling over a spell or shaking while he used his wand. he can cast a corporeal patronus, which actually isn’t a type of magic 90% of the wizarding population can perform ( it’s stated many times that the patronus is a highly advanced form of magic ). he mastered conjuration, a highly advanced form of transfiguration. 

so yeah, quiri is proud of all the accomplishments he’s made, most are driven by intellect, but he really doesn’t need to say anything for people to know that. he’s a prodigy.

Quirinus is a god that incarnates the quirites, i.e. the Romans in their civil capacity of producers and fathers. He is surnamed Mars tranquillus (peaceful Mars), Mars qui praeest paci (Mars who presides on peace). The name was also borne by several early saints. Quirinus is also used as an epithet for the Roman god Janus, a god with two faces similar to Quirrell after he was possessed by Voldemort. This could be a clue to the malevolence of his character. Janus was the god of beginnings, and Quirrell was the first one to find Voldemort in Albania, thereby beginning the Dark Lord's return to power, in a way, and was the first Dark Wizard that Harry ever directly confronted. 

ok lmao joanne janus was not just the god of beginnings, doing a quick google search is enough to tell you that. & on top of “quirinus, the peaceful mars”, there’s nothing that would actually link to quirinus being a dark wizard. this wa sa really shitty excuse for halfassing research & being a horrible ableist bitch. janus quirinus is a protector of civilians; a peaceful victory.
