Cold: Pumpkin spiced coffee and dirt.

Warm: Extremely sugary coffee with a splash of pumpkin-spice syrup that has been tragically dropped on a rich forest floor.

Strength level: Good, and not overpowering. A whiff here and there without insisting itself upon my nostrils.

Unspeakably Evil Temple - A profane blend of opoponax, galangal root, dried mosses, wormwood accord, sandarac, frankincense, myrrh, and black copal.

Bottle: I actually don't know if the bottle is "openable", other than spraying.

Fresh: Holy hell. This is the best thing I have ever smelled. It smells like cardamom and ginger and a hint of sugar and incense, and holy things. I want to rub my face in it like a dog that's just been bathed. Roll me around in it. This is what the Spice from Dune would smell like to me. This is what Amorentia would smell like. This is the odor of Sanctity.

Later: It's on my shirt. It's on my chair. The whole room is redolent with the sweet smell of Copal. There's been very, very, little shift in scent. I am a convert. I am in love. Sweet, deep, rich, resinous, holy.

Longevity: I gave two little spritzes to my office chair around three hours ago and there's been no indication of fading. I anticipate my chair will still smell amazing for a day or two - BPAL products have pretty good longevity in general. EDIT: It's a day later. It's still very nicely fragrant.

Black Forest - This is the captured scent of a cold, moonless night, lost deep within the darkest wood. Haunting and desolate, this scent evokes images of fairy tale tragedy and half-remembered nightmares. Thick, viscous pine with ambergris, black musk, juniper and cypress.

Bottle: Fresh, green, pine. Only-just-ripe cypress cones crushed open underfoot. YES!!!!

Fresh: Oh no. It's dryer sheet. No. Not like this.

Later: Aha! There it is. Woody, musky, resinous. Not green at all now, though. Dark, drippy, and somber. With... with just a hint of Bounce brand Dryer Sheet.

Longevity: Comparable to other BPAL scents.

Absinthe - Fall under the spell of our Green Fairy! An intoxicating blend containing wormwood essence, light mints, cardamom, anise, hyssop, and the barest hint of lemon.

Bottle: I am afraid. This is pure, blistering, anise. I smell no wormwood, nor anything else. I don't wanna wear it. I won't be forced to. You can't make me. I hate it.

Fresh: The anise agreed to release me from my suffering fairly quickly. It's still there, but subtler. The hyssop and a lemon-verbena scent come forward rapidly, but the anise is still strong. Just no longer roughing me up for pocket change.

Later: Something like a quality soap scented with light, soft, pleasant, florals. So fresh and clean it'll scrub the lies off your soul.

Longevity: Owing to the strong anise smell in the imp, I elected to go light on the slathering to avoid hating my existence. It lasted about the same length as other BPAL scents, proportionate to how much I applied.

Whip - Agony and ecstasy: black leather and damp red rose.

Bottle: I... don't know? Classic perfume. Smells like... a pomander owned by a very old lady who crochets her own doilies.

Fresh: A musky green rose, but not leathery in the slightest.

Later: Aha, there's some leather. Soft, gentle, aged, faint. As the rose powdered out (as it do on me) I could catch a little of it here and there.

Longevity: Due to the way rose behaves on me I can't vouch for the longevity. It went baby powder and vanished within a few hours, leaving a very gentle hint-of-leather behind.

HELLBENT FOR LEATHER- The unmistakable smell of some brand new leather chaps.

Bottle: Fresh, new, chrome-tan leather. Bitter and astringent.

Fresh: A mix between an incredibly masc-leaning cologne or aftershave (think "Brut") mingled with new, intense, garment leather. Not the smell of a saddle, but the smell of... yeah, biker chaps. And... wait... hang on... Vinyl Records? The precise and exact smell of sliding an LP out of it's sleeve.

Thanatopsis - A meditation upon death. Inspired by William Cullen Bryant’s poem. A deep, solomn earthen scent containing pine, juniper and musk.

NOTE: Aged bottle (approximately 5yrs old at this point).

Bottle: Much like Dee it has a kind of "digestif cola" smell in the bottle that's not at all unpleasant, just very different than the name might lead you to expect. Unlike Dee, this one is VERY sweet.

Fresh: The smell of a used book store that sells a conspicuous amount of tarot decks, incense, and small candles. The sense-memory of clandestine rituals. A "Sexy Musk" stick incense. Dark, warm, and resinous.

Later: The woody notes really come to the forefront. Gentler than "raw cedarwood" but there. Like an old stock of lumber. Warm, comforting, and dark. A bit, you might say, like an old pine box waiting to be buried.

Longevity: BPAL oils are famously long-lasting. I routinely smell this one well into the next day after applying it.

DEE: His scent is soft English leather, rosewood and tonka with a hint of incense, parchment and soft woods.

Bottle: There's something "cola-like" about it. Like an old-fashioned, angry, digestif liqueur or a weird sarsparilla/rootbeer/off-brand-coke in a glass bottle from a gas station somewhere in the backwoods. It's not "sweet" though. Something there as well that's a bit like an Artemisia or Sage.

Fresh: Old, faded, "temple" incense still stuck to your clothes, or the cloth laid on your altar. That bright, almost cedar-like nose of an aromatic wood. A gentle, gentle, leather smell. Old leather, not new.

Later: A rich, almost sweet, cologne. A cigar-like whiff of tonka, and something almost like a crushed, bitter, plant. The smell of a temple that feels like a home. Longevity: BPAL oils are known for lasting a long time on the skin. I will often still catch whiffs of this one the next morning.

NOVEMBER COMING FIRE- The smell of a Bonfire on a cold autumn night. Hints of smoke, sweet woods and patchouli. From Bath Sabbath on Etsy. Available in full size and sample bottles.

Bottle: "Hints" of smoke, you say? Thou a liar art. That's the smell of wood ash, soot and smoke clinging to a jacket the next day. So smoke it's smokier than smoke. Pretty sure they juiced the monster from Lost to make this, and I don't wanna know what that looked like.

Fresh: Honestly, this smells like brittle cinders and dirt. It's pure, refined, campfire. A dab will do ya, and it layers wonderfully with other scents that need something to ground them.

Basic Info: Black plastic bottle, 8.5oz. Purchased at Dollar Tree. This and the ghost can be purchased online by the case. Labeled as "Vanilla Pomegranate" scented. Is it really, though? It's definitely fruity, I don't get as much of the vanilla scent as I do faux pomegranate. But it's not in any way cloying or unpleasant. It's pretty strongly scented, and will sort of stay on your hands for a while. The soap is clear, and undyed as far as I can tell. I was half-expecting it to look like blood or be otherwise strongly colored. Pleasantly surprised.

Down Side? It's plastic. It's cheap soap so it might be harsh for some. It's a bit frustrating to get the pump to open for the first time. I run through soap like nobody's business since I work with clay. I also knock the soap dispenser into the sink with great frequency so "cheap" and "plastic" were actually benefits in my case.

Up Side! It's decent, it's refillable, it's a skull, and it's a dollar. There's really not much more you can ask of it. I, notorious for having my skin peel, did not have any redness or flaking from using this for the last few days.
