How do people study for uni? It's my first year, I have been dreading it since high school. I graduated 6 years and a half ago, for context. And I'm facing my first uni exams in 2 weeks and I wanna cry and hide away and never come out again.
So how y'all do it.
I'm studying to be a teacher if that helps, for context.
Ah, I totally get that feeling—it’s a big shift, especially after a break from school. It can feel like a lot, but you’ve got this! Here’s what many do to survive that uni grind:
Break things into smaller chunks: You don’t have to tackle everything at once. Break your study sessions into bite-sized pieces and focus on one topic at a time. Setting a timer for 25-30 minutes with a 5-minute break in between (like the Pomodoro technique) can be super helpful.
Active learning: Instead of just reading or passively taking notes, try explaining concepts out loud as if you were teaching them to someone else. Teaching is one of the best ways to solidify your own understanding, which is perfect for your career goals!
Practice exams: It might feel super overwhelming to look at the whole syllabus, but looking at past papers or doing practice tests can help you understand the exam format and pinpoint what areas need extra focus.
Study groups: Find other people in your course to study with. You can bounce ideas off each other and keep each other motivated. Plus, if you can explain something to someone else, you’ve truly understood it!
Take care of yourself: You’re in it for the long haul, so don’t forget to recharge. Get some sleep, eat well, and step outside when you need a break. It’s easy to get stuck in your head, so finding a balance will help you stay focused.
Reach out for support: You’re not in this alone! Professors, tutors, or classmates might be able to offer extra help or guidance if you’re feeling lost on any topics.
You’ve already made it this far, so don’t let the stress get to you.Â
