Alice looked up as the newcomer stepped into the shop, smiling brightly and closing the spellbook she’d been reading to focus her attention on him. "Mmhm, that it is! Well, an apothecary and more. Welcome, welcome. I'd love to barter, in fact." Not many people wanted to trade these days, so she tended to jump at any chance she got. She leaned her hands on the counter, eager to see what he had, before she realized she hadn’t even introduced herself yet. Tucking a lock of hair behind her ear, she gave him a sheepish smile. “Oh, and I’m Alice.” 

Oh… [Skellig slows down as she listens to Alice, her brows furrowing and her lips tugging down into a worried frown. Even when Alice gets embarrassed and writes her worries off as mere complaining, Skellig’s brows furrow more and her lips part, her head shaking just slightly.] There’s nothing to be sorry about. [She presses her lips together, twisting them a little.] I could put together something for her, the dock leaves here aren’t just good for stinging nettles.

[Alice glances down, studying the woven basket in mild embarrassment still when Skellig slows down. Part of her still feels bad for burdening her friend with her worries, no matter how much better it feels to get them off her chest; she’s used to listening and helping her customers but actually asking for help herself is hard for her. She glances up with a grateful smile when Skellig reassures her, already touched even before she offers to help, and nods a little as she speaks, eyes wide.] Oh--please? If you wouldn’t mind? Thank you so much, you have no idea how much that means to me. [Her fingers twitch, and she’s struck with the sudden urge to reach out and clasp Skellig’s hand just to show her how grateful she is, but she curls her fingers into her palm instead, worried she might think it was weird.] Her name’s Josie. She’s had lung problems all her life, so she gets sick easily. I worry about her all the time. [Her eyes go soft as she talks about her little sister, and she shakes her head fondly. She’s already thinking about how she can make it up to Skellig when she remembers she’d brought a small gift for her from the shop, and she glances over to her, biting her lip shyly and hoping she’ll like it. It’s nestled in the picnic basket, and she decides she’ll wait to give it to her once they’ve reached the meadow though she’s too eager to keep it a total secret.] I swear I didn’t plan it like this, but I brought you a little something. It was meant to be just a little gift, though. 

[Skellig dips into a dramatic curtsey when prompted to lead the way and with a swish of her skirts, she’s off doing exactly that with a skip in her step and a song her newest friend taught her quietly hummed. Alice’s question has her glancing back to her and she smiles slowly, her eyes closed and the expression oddly catlike, especially when she tilts her head up a little as she does it.] Oh, yes, very well. And they’ve been just as well, too. And yourself?

[Alice bites her lip and grins as Skeliig curtseys, her nose crinkling in charmed delight, and gives her an exaggerated bow in response. She walks along with her, curious about the tune she can just barely hear her humming. When Skellig looks back to her, Alice can’t help but smile at the oddly familiar expression on her face, positive she’s seen Tansy doing nearly the same thing.] That's good, I’m really glad. And oh, I’ve been okay. Busy. [She widens her eyes, shaking her head with a cringey smile, and shifts the picnic basket to her other arm.] Maybe it’s the full moon, everybody’s been coming in with one crisis after another this week. I mean, not that I mind helping, of course! It’s just…a little tiring. [She glances down for a moment, watching Tansy and Caracatus as they amble along with them, her familiar occasionally stopping to stick her nose in a flower.] My little sister’s sick, too, so I’ve been back and forth between the shop and my parents’. [It slips out before she thinks, and she brings one hand up to her mouth, pressing her fingers against her lips in embarrassment as she realizes she’s rambling.] Oh–I’m sorry, listen to me complaining, god. Anyway, though, I feel better already just being here. [It’s true; she’s more relaxed than she’s been all week though the worry for her sister is still at the back of her mind.]

“No kiddin’?” He eyed the stone, nodding slightly. “Huh, wonder how that works. What’s it called again?” He hadn’t been paying attention for that part. Ash fell from his cigarette onto the ground as he plucked it from his lips, fangs glinting momentarily.

Alice’s lips parted slightly when she caught sight of his fangs, but she shook it off. “Bloodstone. Well, proper term is heliotrope, but most people just call it bloodstone, at least. I’m not even completely sure how it works, but the thought is that some places in the earth are more…resonant, I guess, like attuned to energy and power, and the crystals that form there carry that in them.” Realizing she’d started to babble a bit, she bit her lip and shrugged almost shyly. “They all tend to have certain characteristics to some degree, at least, but I just know some of them feel more powerful than others. I can feel it.” 

“Rocks with powers? Huh. Sounds like bullshit, but fun bullshit.” He grinned and eyed the stone. “Plus, I like the name. Bloodstone…sounds pretty badass.” He turned to the vendor. “How much?”
