I don't hate the baking metaphor when it comes to spells, but every time I see the baking metaphor, I hear Sec in the back of my head groaning loudly.

Same! Except I think of it more like cooking thank baking. Baking is like some high magic bullshit that only works when you follow all the rules.

I saw this grave-marker in person and it’s one of my favorites (as strange as it is to say) because in this depiction, death has a crossbow rather than a scythe. It’s rare to see death with a crossbow, but it has appeared in various arworks before. Here, rather than death reaping great swaths of people, this time death can take you and you specifically with the directness and accuracy of a crossbow (or that was the explanation I was told but can’t confirm). I still love this statue, though.
