CHECK OUT MY MURDER BABIES. Hahaha. But actually they spent more of the book building up to getting steamy, being teases, and then getting steamy. But that's all good. Steam is nice too.Ā
Can't lie, I picked upĀ Kingdom of Bitter MagicĀ because of the phrase "stalker-like tendencies" from the male lead in the synopsis. And you know what? It delivered heh heh.Ā Ā
My biggest gripe is that the pacing slowed in the middle-end part, but in no way will that stop me from picking up the next book in the series! Looking forward to it!

Jellyfish really doesn't pull any punches, does it? Every new episode, it tugs at my heartstrings in a way I wasn't really expecting.
By now, it's clear that Yorukura is much more than people were expecting at first glance, but I find myself being pleasantly surprised every week.
Jellyfish refuses to let you get cozy with your preconceived notions of one of their characters, which was expected with the main girls, and an episode focused on Miiko? I confess I was less than excited about it. But they don't relent, they say "silly, there's always more to a person's story."
I confess that I went "oh, what the fuck" when she revealed her age because, well, I already think the whole idol thing is kinda embarrassing, and to have a whole ass adult doing it? Oof, right?
And maybe a different anime would gladly relegate her to a comedic role, a self-proclaimed rival that never really stood a chance, a character aiming for laughs that strikes pity more often than not, but here they give her an entire life and make you confront her as a full blown character.
She is 31, she is divorced, she has a daughter. She is a single mom working who knows how many jobs, and trying to be an idol in the meantime. She manages to give her daughter a good and comfortable life. She makes high quality clothes for herself and her daughter. She isn't withdrawn, or absent, and she clearly loves her daughter very much. She puts her daughter first.
When the episode comes to a close, instead of the second-hand embarrassment I was expecting to feel, I'm left with my heart warmed.

I am loving this show so much right now! So much so that I'm writing this review before I've finished watching all 12 episodes in the season, since they are not all out yet. Because I want more people to know about it! It's made me laugh. It's made me cry. It's made me feel love and hope for the world.
JellyfishĀ is centered around 4 gals we meet one-by-one who come together to make something great. They support each other, and it's so beautiful to see. The music slaps. The animation also slaps. I love how it approaches themes of loneliness/isolation, artistic insecurity, and friendship. And the way it hints at young (gay) love. And the way it depicts everything from female discomfort just from walking outside to the unsustainable standards in idol culture.Ā
This is the only anime I've found this Spring season that I've enjoyed as much asĀ The Apothecary DiariesĀ andĀ FrierenĀ from the last winter season. Give it a watch! Hope you love it like I do!

The way our titular dead boy detectives Edwin and Charles have been through the meat grinder, but still want to help others. The way they keep each other afloat omg. Precious.
A LOVE TRIANGLE THAT I ACTUALLY DON'T HATE OMG. I know who I'm rooting for though ;)
The way it doesn't shy away from depicting violence. Because the world IS brutal, even as there's pieces of light in it.
Crystal finding strength through the past women of her family. Loss of memories as a metaphor for how the slave trade stripped Black Americans of their history and identity (maybe). And the empowerment that comes with reconnecting with one's roots/lineage.
Pacing. Look, I admit it. I'm someone who often watches shows at 2x speed. Well buddy, this show moved so fast that I felt no such compulsion to speed it forward. Possibly because the show's creators needed to fit so much within just 8 episodes. But they pulled it off!
Niko's room is full of manga and anime posters, and I loved that for her.
Iām finally back at it again! This time with K.M. SheaāsĀ Magic on Main StreetĀ trilogy which takes place in theĀ Magiford Supernatural CityĀ universe. This trilogy consists of the following titles:Ā The Lies of Vampires and Slayers,Ā The Games of Enemies and Allies, andĀ The Order of Blood and Ruin.Ā The main couple is Jade OāNeil (slayer) and Considine Maledictus (elder vampire).Ā
Iāve been a huge of theĀ Magiford Supernatural CityĀ books ever since the first trilogy (Hall of Blood and Mercy) and I have to say, the writing continues to be absolutely āØimmaculateāØ. Itās wonderfully-executed romance with actual plot. I LOVE how Jadeās social anxiety is depicted (as someone who has experienced my own fair share of social anxiety, it felt really nice having that point of connection with her), and I LOVE how Jade is constantly trying to work past it. How she genuinely cares for co-workers and neighbors and people in general. How she doesnāt at all stutter over her words if you happen to be a vampire or slayer because those are the beings sheās gotten hella exposure talking to from a young age hahaha.Ā And her compentency as a slayer! Yes!!
I also love Considine as the ML! Heās the oldest ML so far in all of the books, but I definitely find him to be the funniest! I always find myself cracking up as I read throughĀ Magiford Supernatural CityĀ books (K.M. Sheaās just got a knack for weaving comedy into her works), and this was no exception.Ā
Side characters, as always, are also chefās kiss!
Note that Chronology-wise,Ā Magic on Main StreetĀ actually takes place beforeĀ Gate of Myth and Power. Hereās a link on Sheaās website toĀ a timelineĀ featuring all the trilogies. Itās worth reading in order since characters from previous books often pop up in the new ones, which is just 10/10.Ā
Other notes:
I LOVE how the first trilogy in the Magiford Supernatural City universe wasĀ Hall of Blood and Mercy. And how the last book in the Magic on Main Street trilogy isĀ The Order of Blood and Ruin. I LOVE the latter as a title for other reasons too (as you will find out if you decide to read the books, radish), but the symmetry of this is just so beautiful.Ā
TheĀ Pack of Dawn and DestinyĀ andĀ Gate of Myth and PowerĀ trilogies did not hit as hard for me asĀ Hall of Blood and Mercy,Ā Court of Midnight and Deception, andĀ Magic on Main Street. However, there were both still solid reads, and I definitely enjoyed the time I spent on them! So excited for the upcoming trilogies. Thank you, K.M. Shea (aka Kitty), for creating such an incredible world with the best characters. Your books consistently bring me joy time and time again.Ā
Spoilers:
The only reason this trilogy doesnāt get a full 5/5 is because I felt Jadeās realization that she loved Considine came on slightly more quickly than expected based on what Iād learned of her character and the rate at which her feelings had been progressing. It didnāt take me out of the book though! I still LOVE the both of them together. And others might feel like the two of them had had enough time to come to that realization. Two and half booksā worth of time, in fact, hahaha. Which in retrospect does sound like itās enough, but I guess Iām in a slowest of slow burn mood. Might be because our protagonists are actually pretty willing to be vulnerable and communicative with each other (once they get to know each other better), and it felt like their interactions had so much substance. Anyways, their relationship is definitely shown to still be continuously developing, which I highly appreciate! <3
Ambrose Dracos may be long gone, but the way his presence is felt throughout book and his last āgiftā to Considine (a promise to take care of the Dracos line) is soooo good.Ā

I'M A HUGE FAN OF THE NOVEL. THIS SHOW IS EVERYTHING. I'm partial to the subbed version. Hua Cheng is slaying left, right, and center. Xie Lian, oh my poor sonāwe love you; it gets better. Season 3, I'm readyy.
A friend who was getting into the donghua told me that things made more sense when she started reading the novel concurrently. It was actually the first season that got me into reading the novel. I didn't/ don't have any major complaints with the donghua itself and how it presents information. Your milage may vary! But if you're into a slow burn romance for the ages + so much crack, so much humor + so many tears, buckle in!

I really enjoyed this book! It is the second book in the Emily Wilde series. I read the first book (Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries) last year and had a grand olā time. Really happy to say that this latest installment keeps up the quality.Ā

Having each chapter be a journal entry remains great.
Itās so funny how many times Wendellās name came up in the first few pages of the book. Haha we know whoās on your mind Emily.Ā
That said, the relationship between Emily and Wendell continues to be delightful and so sweet.Ā Sometimes the chemistry tends of fizzle out after couples get together, but not here! Because both characters continue to be their wonderful selves independent of the other, and that's great!
Emily herself remains a stellar character. Girl is still out here angering villages with her lack of social grace (RELATABLE). As someone who fumbles social etiquette on the daily, I really appreciate this aspect of her characterization. I love how she also recognizes this as a weakness and is shown to make efforts to learn from past mistakes! More generally, I love that Emily owns up to the consequence of her actions and does her best to fix things! We love Emily!
The footnotes at the end of each chapter continue to be A+. I read this book on my Kindle, so I wasnāt flipping back and forth between my current spot and the end of the chapter for the notes. Regardless, they were still delightful to read and provided such a nice means of random world-building.Ā

Emily struggles to show her affection for her niece. As someone raised in a household with complicated family dynamics ft. adults with love languages distorted by generational and cultural gaps, I really appreciated the way their relationship developed! It was slow! It took effort! Misunderstandings needed to be addressed and previous actions need to be recontextualized. Wooo.Ā
Farris Rose is back and I LOVE the character development.Ā

I havenāt been on in a while but I wanted to get on to say that The War if Lost Hearts is the most criminally underrated, best series ever.
Youāve got grumpy/sunshine, badass female protagonist, a āwho did this to you?ā scene, and so much more!! Itās dark but still has so much love and is just. So, so good. I will never shut up about how much I adore this criminally underrated series. There is absolutely nothing I disliked about this book. This is my favorite trilogy ever, up there tied with my favorite series ever. Thereās no miscommunication and the characters handle hard situations maturely. Itās dark at times and deals with slavery, torture, and the injustices that entails, but itās also empowering and full of hope and funny quips. The characters are lovable and complex. The pacing is the best pacing of any book. The romance is sweet yet still full of tension. The plot is incredible. I cannot recommend this book enough. It flawlessly balances the mundanity of living with the largeness of this universe and literal world ending stakes. She balances joy and grief, laughter and sorrow, trauma and healing. Itās a true feat when your heart aches with all of it at the same time. Each book is incredible. The character I was hesitant to love in the first book had me sobbing with the realism and heartache that I felt for her in the last book. If you listen to the audiobook, the narrators were perfectly cast as well. Tisaanah, the FMC has a language barrier and itās done so incredibly well, especially when listening to the audiobook. It remains one of my favorite things about Daughter of No Worlds. This series is criminally underrated and I will never understand how it isnāt at the top of booktok. 12/10, move this up to the top of your TBR. And the author has signed copies of all the books on her Etsy! Each book is just as good as the one before it. Iām obsessed with this series. This series is on KU!!

This was a solid read! I think the easiest way to go about this review may be to address a few of the ādrawbacksā I noticed pointed out in other reviews Iād read before picking up this book.
1. "I wish there was more of an info-dump toward the start of the book to flesh the world out more.ā
Valid comment! However, over the years, my attention span has shortened, and Iāve found myself often lacking the patience to get through the more dense world-building description that many fantasy novels offer. DoNW gave me enough information to understand what was happening, while keeping me hooked with the exploits and inner world of our female lead Tisaanah. Does the magic system come anywhere near being as intricately fleshed out and presented as that ofĀ Avatar: The Last Airbender? Naur. But I am satisfied for what it is. And I felt like the descriptions that we did get were creative and cool.
2. āThe pacing is strange. There are places that lag which makes it feel like the overall stakes are reduced.ā
Pacing felt fine to me! It felt like the first season of a shonen anime, where the main protagonist needs to take time to build up her skills and strength first, before facing off various big-bads. And the former is exactly what Tisaanah did, with single-minded, unstoppable determination. I was impressed! I want 1/10 of that drive for myself.Ā
3. āOnce the character Rashaye is introduced, it becomes difficult to distinguish if itās Tisaanah, Rashaye, or Max (male lead) speaking.ā
I also didnāt find this to be an issue. Rashaye, by the way, is a character introduced later in the book who speaks directly in Tisaanah's mind. Hereās my quick guide to distinguishing whoās speaking.Ā

Italics usually means Tisaanah is reliving one of Rashayeās/Maxās memories as if she were them.
Regular, unitalicized font is Tisaanah mind-speaking, except for the times when itās partially Tisaanah, partially Rashaye starting to take control.Ā
It became intuitive to distinguish early on. I actually liked that there was both separation and a blending in these sections. The mind + identity is a tricky thing to define and as Guru Pathik said: āThe greatest illusion of this world is the illusion of separation. Things you think are separate and different are actually one and the same.ā I didnāt mind seeing these ideas represented physically on the page.Ā
Other thoughts:
For fans of political intrigue, thereās a little bit in DoNW. The epilogue seems to promise more of that in the upcoming installments.

Iām a sucker for well-written omegaverse, so this was a fun read! Comparable to some of the higher end of a/b/o fics on Ao3. Mackenzie (aka Mack) as the female lead was very likable. Fake dating + ānot friends to friends to loversā shenanigans were well-executed. Would recommend if youāre looking to turn off your brain for a bit (which indeed I was).Ā
