People get very mad for a few days and then roll over and accept the change to the enclosure. This is what they are betting on. They have had meetings about this.

The reblog chain is one of the things that makes Tumblr unlike anywhere else. All the notes on reblogs are attributed to the original post, no matter which branch people actually liked or reblogged. We want to keep encouraging conversations, and give contributors the recognition they deserve. 

Soon, you'll be able to like, reblog, or reply to any part of a reblog chain, and that note will go to that reblog's author. Each reblog will have its own counts, instead of one aggregated number from every version of the post. And yes, you’ll be able to like multiple posts in one chain.

If a reblog doesn't add anything, the love flows up to the last person in the chain who did. Your post doesn't lose notes just because people spread it quietly.

Past notes will stay on the original post — we're only changing what happens from here on out. Retroactively re-attributing all of them would be... a lot.

Very few people are spreading stuff quietly?? Someone going #asdhshgs #cool art #fandom name makes me so happy and feel so appreciated but it isn’t adding anything to my art, so why would reblogs meant for my art get attributed to them? Nobody wants it to!

When someone likes/reblogs art or gifs or writing I’ve reblogged I want the original creator to get that love and appreciation, even if I also liked whatever addition the other person made, that’s why I reblogged it in the first place!! This just doesn’t reflect the way most people are using this website at all.

@probablily it happens regardless if there’s a comment or not because each reblog is now seen as its own individual chain. i can see this on mobile because my app isn’t updated, but on desktop this tag, as well others, don’t appear when i open the notes of this post. this is all i can see from desktop despite being able to see more tags from mobile:

You add a reblog that says “oh cool!” to a gif. Someone reblogs your comment. That gif maker will now not be notified that someone liked and reblogged their work. You will.
