Zeyla had just barely made it out of the fight alive. She sported more wounds than she could ever remember and must have broken her personal record. Ranging from a couple gunshot wounds to what was likely a dislocated shoulder and a broken arm on the same side, as well as several cuts and bruises from her less-than-stellar landing. Not only that, but her communicator was offline and she was stranded.

Despite it all, she still managed the energy to walk away from the crash. However, she only made it so far before she had to lean against a nearby tree. She leans her head against it, and lifts away when she realizes she’s stained the bark with blood. But then.. she looks to her right and blinks. 

…Had that building always been there..? How could she have missed something like that, even in her current condition?

Normally, it was the Owlen who was charged with finding the quarry for aid. Normally, by the time he had a satchel over a wing and about to take off from the rear porch, no one knocked. No one ... Ever really knocked? Not after the shrine slipped through the film of reality to find its place.

Cautiously closing the back doors, and Livius was waddling to the source of knocking to carefully open the doors. To a crumpled visitor. Bloodied, battered, and creating an eerie puddle of blood on his doorstep.

How they made it this far, adrenaline an amazing thing, was beyond him.

   She listened to the request that repaying hi would be healing and she gave a sheepish crooked grin. “So sit, shut up and listen, heh. I guess that’s fair. So I’m not ruining all your hard work.” It would have to do for now until she found a more proper way to pay him, if she could. 

   She didn’t think she would be able to sleep again but the pain medicine was helping again to numb some of the sharp pain and leave her with an aching that was much more manageable. She rested herself back more, trying to relax her stressed shoulders. 

   “I’ll try, and then yeah, get up with the day. I don’t really get nutrients so much, but it does help the spirit, I think. So, yeah alright.” She gave a small nod, not sure still if she was still in some strange part of a fever dream, but large owl-man, not really the strangest thing she’d encountered, so probably not. 

   “If it’s not quite morning yet… did I wake you up?”

“More or less, yes. While the pulling of stitches or giving cause for infection would be your own doing, it is not ideal. Resting and recovering so you can move without aid is a better end result. In time, fit to leave too” A careful pillow fluff and blanket tuck, and Livius was refilling the cup by the bed with new water should they wake to thirst in his absence.

📼 “I do not think that is necessary…” Vaas backed off knowing he had targets to meet before the end of the day and he had already wasted enough time fucking around with the overgrown owl.

“I need to get the fuck back to work….”

Hey! That overgrown owl treats you with kindness and respect when you do something nice, Vaas. Don’t shun your only source of gratitude and ‘thank you’s boy.

Don’t mind the full body puff of glee at seeing the little friend sprawled out in the lawn, napping in the sun like the most carefree little chick in the world.

Hannah brightened as their feathery friend mentioned her dream, happily retelling it to both of them. It was a simpler life than what they had had, but much more calming.

As both finished their lunch James headed outside to sort out the wood while Hannah remained indoors watching, scribbling with her crayons on various paper she’d been given. It was peaceful until there was a heavy knock at the gates, both humans pausing to look.

Collecting the plates from their lunch to deposit into the kitchen, and making himself some tea to sit beside Hannah to watch her draw, and he too was turning his head to the front doors at a soft thrum that echoed through the shrine floorboards, as if facing a small earthquake or tectonic tremor. Athena had announced a new guest to her keeper, but while everyone was welcomed, the shrine had seen into the heart of the newcomer.

“One moment!” Livius called, tugging James back inside carefully and ushering Hannah along with him to take deeper into the shrine, opening an ornate red door leading to a set of stairs leading upstairs in the seemingly single story shrine. “Do not come down until I come get you.”

Talons clicking as he waddled back into the main hallway and to the front doors of the shrine, and the Strigiform was pulling the heavy door inwards to peer out at his new guest.

📼 Appreciation was always welcomed, Vaas was seldom and rarely thanked for anything he did so it was a gentle surprise to hear those words from someone over something so simple.

“Do not fucking mention it.” He turned away in order to hide that shocked expression and placed the knife back in his pocket.

A low chuckle at Vaas’s expression before they could turn away swift enough, and Livius was swallowing the last chunk of mango cheek, preening his talons and surrounding feathers clean well and truly satisfied with his mango craving.

Juice spurted from the ripe fruit in his hands, dripping off the tips of his dirty digits and into a sticky puddle between his equally dirty boots. Having much practice in skinning tough exterior fruits the mango was soon naked, cut into manageable slices and offered up to the owl.

“Don’t say I don’t ever fucking do anything for you.”

Talons are just going to carefully press their tips into the slices of fruit, mindful of the hand underneath to hook into and raise, happily plucking each slice of his claws to swallow whole. Mango was just ... So good. Sweet, juicy, and soft enough to just slip right into the gullet.

Dead angry eyes stared back up at the owl before an ensuing tut and a snort followed, shaking his head as he passed the mango from one hand to another, clearly procrastinating in order to make the Avian want it more.

“What? I look like your fucking mother? hm? is that it? you need me to peel your fucking fruit?” he seemed agitated but all the while he flicked out a small hunting knife and took to removing the tough green skin from the Mango.

If you would stop tossing it from hand to hand that would be good too.
