I’m Wind, though some people know me as Tempest. I’m an aroace Canadian artist and writer, and I go by any pronouns!
You can find my art here via #windart, though I’m also extremely slow when it comes to drawing so y’know, stand by for that.
I also write! I don’t know how often I’ll be posting things from that, but I’ll be using #windwords for it!
Here, you’ll see OC stuff (mainly from a world I’ve been working on for years and am very excited to share with you all) (have a look at #storystuff and #windrambles here on my profile for that!! masterpost coming soon because oh boy) as well as miscellaneous fandom content from my handful of interests. Additionally, I repost a lot of stuff from my non-fandom interests, such as birds, reptiles, science, mythology, and more! So if any of that piques your interest, stick around :)

"I can't believe humans would hunt the thylacine to extinction, humans are fundamentally evil" Hey, did you know that extinction was long thought to be impossible, and within 50 years of humans realizing that extinction via overhunting was a possibility it practically stopped happening? Did you know that humans are so desperate to prevent more losses that they're funneling millions of collective hours and billions of euros into helping other species? Hours and euros that could be spent on humans, being spent on species on whom humanity's own survival does not depend? Did you know that due to an accidental introduction of rats, the Lord Howe Island stick insect population was brought down to 24 individuals and now there are tens of thousands of them?
This bug. This bug that, to most humans, is utterly useless, relatively gross, and completely foreign. Humans saved it because humans do not want to cause another extinction ever again if they can avoid it.

It's wild blueberry season in Sweden and I've been picking and eating my fill everyday from the forest behind my house! The entire forest floor is covered in wild blueberry bushes and the tangy taste is so cosmic, I had to paint them✨
Photos of the berries I picked!
Sherlock Holmes has so many adaptations that it stops enticing me but then every now and then someone comes along and absolutely blows it out of the water
Who's mind goes ok so Sherlock is an autistic biological quantum computer demi god but also a disgusting insane woman and her Watson is a bisexual chemically enhanced anthropomorphic Command+F function and they solve mysteries in a bio-steampunk esque world where humanity is constantly under threat from kaijus and has constructed an attack on titan type of three walled system to defend against them
Best two books I've read this year and it's not even halfway over
LMAO not Din finally realizing what he looks like to everyone else when he does recall. I love the mental image of everyone else having a convo and Din’s twitching in the corner like

BRO, A Drop of Corruption was soooo gooooood. Ya'll, Malo is so cool and her voice in the audiobook is perfect. Ana has also never been cooler, especially in the scene when she figures out the final pieces of the puzzle(shown here). I also thought it was kinda funny that half of the events can be summed up by "Entire government ultra pressed about fertilizer"
On rereading the haza estate investigation in the tainted cup, it’s hilarious how everyone is like “they are so powerful and scary u better watch ur step din”
and for the whole thing din’s like “ooh so scary i better be careful” while simultaneously maximizing every opportunity he’s presented with to piss them off
anas adhd ass is trying to skip cutscenes in the investigation and speedrun tactics to get to the end. unfortunately for her everyone else needs to travel through time normal style

i have a question/theory for any shadow of the leviathan fans out there, but it's extremely spoilery FOR BOTH BOOKS and as such I've put it under a read more. if you plan to read the series or haven't finished the second book yet please don't look at the rest of this post
so in both books it is very rare for rjb to throw out bits of information that don't end up being vitally important later on. once you realize this it's pretty easy to spot them and often to figure out a big chunk of the mystery (i mean this as a compliment to his writing.... it is very satisfying if when, for example, you read ana mentioning twins in the start of the book it lodges in your mind and you look for ways it fits into the puzzle as you go until you have an ah hah moment...i love this sort of thing...it's great brain candy)
one such bit of information that got tossed at us in the first book has stuck with me and has not yet been fully unraveled. at the end of the second book i had a moment where i felt like I'd missed something connected to it (I read the books in under two days while exhausted from vaccines so it's quite possible). I have two questions for other readers. 1) did i miss something? and 2) given specific pieces of information is my theory sound and what theories do you have?
let's start with this bit from the tainted cup
fayazi talks about the vitality suffusions given to the conzulates here. later din describes them as "giant ageless beings"
(a side note here that both fayazi and gherlin imply in different ways that the empire is Up To Shit. worth keeping in mind)
this description lodged in my head next to another:
you probably see where I'm headed with this
here's another good one:
and indeed when we get to see one it does have a face and Din thinks it's trying to say something
then we have the Khanum, the ancient blessed race who had all the abilities of all the current augmented people combined and who all died out long ago. at the end of the second book it's heavily implied that Ana is an attempt to remake one of them. this was the passage that made me wonder if I'd missed something
we know that some (all?) of the grafts and alterations used in the empire come from the titans and it follows that the Khanum would have been heavily modified by them, though I can't find any direct mention of that beyond what is strongly implied in this passage. I'm mostly worried that I missed some mention of who and what the Khanum were (are? the emperor is theoretically still around) AND if there was a mention of the origin of the titans somewhere
because we now have a situation where the imperials entire society is built around the reagents they get out of titans. if the titans were to vanish, if they were to stop showing up, what would it do to the empire?
it's mentioned in passing that the titans are beyond ancient, older than the empire i believe. so it's unlikely that the empire created them...probably? but it now needs them to survive (the marrow is even more valuable in this light). i have a few theories based on all of this
1) the Khanum did not all die out the way that history claimed and in fact became new titans who supplemented the ranks of the original ones
2) the conzulates are turning into something like leviathans which is why they are killed eventually, but they may be a backup plan in case the titans stop showing up. what if they were allowed to keep growing? (this assumes that the titan components that are necessary to the empire are not viable until a complete transformation has occurred)
3) ana is compared to the aurors a good deal. the people who made the aurors have unlimited direct access to titan parts. presumably the aurors alterations are heavily from the titans. i imagine the empire is going to be super big mad about it if they made some kind of mini khanum elixir in the shroud. but aurors get apophenia if they use it too long. BUT if the empire was really doing some wild shit with titans and the khanum etc wouldn't the aurors who are working on the titan corpses and engineered to draw connections figure that out? and if they started ranting about the empire doing crazy shit might that not be classified as apophenia? Din is told specifically not to mention anything going on outside the shroud to them
(side note that if the altered imperials now have pieces of the powers of the Khanum and the Khanum were altered from titan parts/reagents that the empire itself is sort of a giant titan... each citizen important in their role as part of the larger organism. sen sez imperiya)
another lingering question i still have is why the titans keep showing up exactly where they do every year like clockwork. it's extremely bad for the people living near the sea but also damned convenient for the empire
so yeah, curious if anyone had any thoughts on all this or any info i missed
ooh thank you for compiling all this, it's really interesting! i don't have any fully formed thoughts but i'll link some relevant quotes (also under the cut for drop of corruption spoiler reasons)
again i have no clue what the conzulate hints are supposed to indicate. honestly i just thought it was a plot point that got cut (maybe contrasting with kaygi haza's longevity grafts or something?) but the parallels with the leviathans are super interesting for sure. however i do have the main info drops for the khanum, which doesn't fully confirm anything but maybe there are more connections here i'm not fully seeing rn
din's summary to the wardens en route to the midlow raid:
the augurs' description:
i interpreted the ending of drop of corruption as ana being a successful attempt at recreating the khanum-- she's shown to have engraver-esque levels of memory (the fernpaper orders scene in TTC) and axiom-esque abilities for calculation (when confronting the twitch), plus the whole fugue state scene at the end of ADOC. this seemed to me like a project approved by *someone* fairly high up in the empire if they have access to the grafts that physically prevent you from being able to speak about a specific topic, but idk for sure
the innermost cantons are the wealthier ones which implies that being nonbinary is a rich people thing, but then again maybe there are nonbinary people in the outer cantons except they’re too busy fending off horrific sea beasts so it’s just
