Doesn't scare easily, ok then. In hindsight (five seconds worth of hindsight, but hindsight nonetheless) it occurs to Dottie that a kid who went missing a few years ago, was presumed dead, then turned back up, probably wouldn't get scared easily.

Will had been looking that some of the brighter shirts in the mens section. Brighter stripes mostly. He'd also been looking at the lighter jeans. But throughout the day whenever he grabbed something he felt like he was being watched so he put it back. When she said that they were closing soon, Will looked around, he had not definitively picked anything.

His eyes lingered on the shirts, and the pair of jeans he actually wanted, but went for the safe option, a white t-shirt with a yellow collar and around the sleeves, as he grabbed it he saw a soft butter yellow one with white on the color and sleeves, and hesitated before taking the white one. "I'm ready," he said, not sounding the most thrilled with his choice, but went with it anyways because it was his only feasible option within the price range he was also deeming acceptable because even though he was given fifty dollars to help fill out his wardrobe, which was all gone after Lenora, he was not using all that, it felt wrong.

She smiles a little at the way he almost sheepishly seems to look down and she shrugs her shoulders. Not being able to ask for what you want and need is definitely the kind of thing that should be rectified. “You know, that's actually something that took me a really long time to learn myself--at least from people that I wanted to have stick around. Sometimes it felt like I couldn't ask for too much or people would feel uncomfortable or obligated, but...the right people won't feel that way.”

Ally knows he really didn't ask, but she smiles a bit anyway and a laugh bubbles out of her. After everything they've had to endure, now more than ever they have to trust that they've surrounded themselves with the right people. “How about this? You didn't ask for a cone, but Max showed me this great ice cream place that's still around and I think we deserve a calm moment, don't you? We survived, and I think a sweet treat is the least the universe can reward us with. What's your favorite flavor?”

The right people wouldn't feel that way. Will sort of latched onto that. There was so much he was afraid to do or so. But if what she said was true, he should be able to say it. And if they were his real friends they'd stay. If they were true, they'd stay. The issue was taking that leap in the first place. "Now the question is how do you get brave enough to do that?" he asked, almost cheekily but there was an earnestness about that made Will's joking tone seem a bit more heartfelt.

Will could not remember the last time he went somewhere to get ice cream, it was probably Starcourt since in Lenora the closest place was something that couldn't be gotten to easily. He had ice cream of course, but it was usually just the Neapolitan in the tub that his mom would buy because it was three flavors for the price of one. "Oh, um, peanut butter cup, but I'll eat anything."
