William C. McGarrett

“This isn’t your first time here, is it?” Because there was really no way somebody from the mainland would have an almost perfect accent when speaking hawaiian words, there was literally no way. Even with years living in Honolulu, you’d still hear at least a bit of an accent, but this was just too good to be true. She narrowed her eyes at him just for a little bit, in an almost playful way, still giving him the benefit of doubt. Maybe Will was just that good with accents and languages, which was not that uncommon either. 

“A casting director? What type of movie are you casting people for? Will you stay long?” She couldn’t help herself, being all curious like a little kid, and excited about it as well. “If you want to know places where to eat or grab a good drink, I know a few.” Her first instinct was to recommend Kamekona’s, but maybe it wasn’t that much of a good idea to suggest it first thing. But hell, if he was into local food and kind of a crazy mix thrown in as well, why the hell not?  

Before she could inquire more, Lou showed up, and he…. knew Will? And vice versa. That was really curious. They seemed like really good friends, but… how? Tani narrowed her eyes at now the both of them again, frowning just a little bit. With what Lou now said and how Will looked a lot like Steve, and the fact that he admitted to a prank, it could mean only one thing.

“So you are a McGarrett! You’re Steve’s brother!” And his prank actually worked. He was really charming, and that charm definitely helped him a lot with managing to trick her and make her believe that he actually wasn’t. It was a nice diversion, and she liked that mischievous spark in him. “You got me. Soooo… did you make the rest up as well or are you actually a casting director?”

“I am a McGarrett, yes.” He laughed at that. Tani seemed as friendly as she was described to him before. He was glad his brother found some good new aditions for this truly mad team he had here. Maybe they could work on reigning him in. He hoped so, he had no intention to make his next visit, the next time he met his sister be Steven’s funeral. 

“I actually didn’t lie once. Nobody ever told me I look like Steve, because everyone else knows I am the baby brother. Everything else is true, too. Down to the fact that I brought Danny the salt. I am really a casting director, too and here for a casting. It’s just a little movie.”

“Isn’t it that Disney thing?” Lou asked.

“Disney short film, yes.” Will rolled his eyes at Lou’s interference.

“It’s genuinely little, even thought it is made by Disney, kinda like Lava.” And he still loved that as well as Moana. Two movies that resembled a culture he was very, very fond of even though he lived so far apart from this.

“You’ll come to learn that all the functionality in the McGarrett family is concentrated in Will here”, Lou provided, which had Will chuckle.

“Not true, Mary got her act together!” But yeah, he could not deny that in certain regards he was much more functional than Steve, like in the regard of not being a dumb idiot risking his life 24/7.

“You have to tell Tani about the time Danny chewed you out for being a McGarrett.” WIll laughed at that, vividly remembering.

“For thinking so at least. So back then Steve apparently was an idiot again and needed shots, which he administers himself. One day they came back and Danny found me giving myself a shot. And he just explodes on me, telling me how i am a dumbass and what the hell I did now, what the shot is and all.”

“He froze like a deer in headlights, looked like he was about to run out.”

“Salt from New York? Don’t tell me he even has something against the salt we have here?” While she didn’t spend too long around Steve and Danny just yet, but he was very vocal about all things Hawaiian that he didn’t necessarily approve off or didn’t like. It was really adorable, to say the least, mostly because nobody at this point even took him seriously about it, least of all Steve. 

“It’s nice to meet you!” She gave him a bright smile, easily slipping back into her bright and smiley self after the initial confusion. “Make yourself comfortable, I’ll give Danny a call right away.” And with that, she’d take down two flies with one stone, with informing him about William waiting for him as well as ask how far they got with the case. Calling just because of that was not really an option for her, mostly because she didn’t dare to, in case she’d disturb them, but that was just because she was still very much a rookie and needed to get the hang of things. Eventually, she would. 

After the call, she once again smiled at Will. “They need to wrap a few things on the field and should be in the office in half an hour the latest. And he seemed really excited about it. But you didn’t fly from New York just to deliver him salt, did you? If it’s okay to ask, of course.”

“He has nothing against the salt. But Hawaiian salt, especially the lava and alea salt are more catered to fish, smokey dishes, the one he wants for the pizza is really pure and then there is one basil infuesed one with dried garlic he wanted. So there is reason behind this madness.” Good reason even. Will himself had a plan on taking some hawaiian salt back home, too, especially the alea salt. He only realized then that he might have given himself away a tiny bit with how well he pronounced Alea. 

“Oh, no, of course not. I have a professional interest to be here, too. I am a casting director. We have some local casting here which I am to oversee. So we really just killed two birds with one stone, so to speak. Actually three stones.” He looked at the calender close by and realized that while he was on the island, they would have the anniversary of Aunt Debs death, which wasn’t too bad either, at least he could spend it with Steve. Just as he was about to say something a very familiar face entered the headquaters. Once he saw him, Lou Grover grinned.

“Big Will!” A play on how William McGarrett was older than William Grover and thus he was Big Will. 

“Lou!” Will immediately turned to him and went to hug his brothers friend - which did make him his friend, too.

“Steve didn’t mention you flying in!”

“He didn’t know. One of my people got sick, so I am taking over a casting here in Honolulu, very last minute everything.” Lou turned to Tani with a grin and Will knew now the joke was about to come to an end.

“So, you met our Will here,” Lou mentioned to Tani. “I bet he charmed you like his big brother does, he’s just a lot less crazy.” Will chuckled.

things were, to say the least, a wholesome disaster. steve was framed for killing governor jameson and was sitting in halawa, the team trying to find any evidence that would speak against it, but so far without much success. needless to say, the detective was losing his mind. while he didn’t know steve for all that long, but even he knew that his insane self would never go that crazy and go on a killing spree like that, killing the governor out of all people at that as well. perhaps the only way of them knowing what exactly had happened was to get inside the governor’s office to conduct their own investigation, though that was a plan that needed to be well thought off. as far as danny knew, the rest of five-0 could as well be suspected of aiding steve in the  ❛ crime ❜ he committed.

as danny sat there in his home one evening, contemplating on what to do next to clear steve’s name of the shame and crime that was hung onto him, a knock on the door pulled him out of his thoughts. part of him wondered who it was, part of him feared that HPD was on the other side of that door. it wasn’t as if he had much of a choice anyway, considering the lights were on and the TV was running. 

taking in a deep breath, the detective stood up, almost preparing himself for the worst as he opened the door, coming face to face with who he could have sworn was steve at first. upon a second look, he noticed the young man was simply strikingly similar to steve, much younger as well, and the name reveal put the last few missing puzzle pieces in place. steve’s baby brother. he remembered. he remembered steve telling him about it. even if he didn’t, the visual similarity was enough for danny to fully believe him. 

❝ will. right. right, come on in… ❞ he said, moving out of the way to let the young man in. ❝ steve talked about you here and there. never thought i’d actually get to meet you, though. i guess you heard what happened then, right? just… just know that steve would never do that. we’re trying to get behind it. ❞

Will chuckled at Dannys reaction. He was glad the man seemed instantly open to talking to him. It would make things much easier. Honestly he already loved the guy, just by how his brother had changed since he met him. Steve could get very self destructive, but the new job and this man seemed to be able to calm him. He was much clamer than he was used to, less likely to hyper focus on missions. And the brothers had much more regular contact now. Will knew that someones surroundings usually had a large impact like that. Will got inside and once again was not too surprised. The evidence of his daughter was all over the place and Steve had mentioned how much of a devoted dad this man was. He did Steve good, honestly.

“Between Hawaii and New York, our chances were actually surprisingly high in meeting.” He pointed out. “I would have prefered a more joyful occassion, though.” And saldy here they were with Steve in trouble.

“Homewrecker? Are people really going to go that far?” They weren’t even dating, the furthest they went was light flirting, but at the same time, Tani had to remember that people liked to talk and even make up things, especially reporters and paparazzi, to make their articles more interesting. So cooking up some drama could as well be something they would probably try and stir up, not to mention try and sell as the truth. Well, she wasn’t really one to be affected too much by rumors, and even if it would happen, she wouldn’t be too bothered by it. She knew the truth, so did he, and everybody else who mattered to them, so there was really no big deal about it. Evil tongues would never be quiet, and that was just a fact.

“Food and a magic show? I’m liking the sound of that! And as for Karen, I don’t think it’ll be too hard to be friendly with her, especially not if there’s just open communication between us, which it is. I’m actually really excited to finally meet both of them. The dinner will be a nice opportunity to give both Karen, Luca and Delylah the small presents I brought for them. And before you say something, it’s nothing big or anything like that. Just little something’s to always have a piece of Hawaii with them.”

The paparazzi outside the airport caught her a bit off guard, but Tani decided to follow Delylah’s example and not really pay much attention to them. Will was probably already used to them, as was Dely, but the sight of the limousine was still very much welcomed. She gave Will a gentle smile as he opened the door. “Thanks.” She said and moved to help Delylah in first before getting inside after her, chuckling as Delylah crawled over her to sit between her and Will once he was inside as well. “I think I’ll have to get used to many new things while I’ll be here. It’s still a bit surreal.”

“Welcome to LA and the cut-throath entertainment business. I am pretty sure some of our company bosses make mafia bosses look like fluffy bunnies.” He was actually sure of it. Mafia Bosses at least had the decency to tell one to their face they would fuck them up, Company bosses not so much. He smiled as his kid perked up at the mention of a present, but she was too excited to get going to inquire about it, not that he would have minded. She was just four, that was okay and she otherwise has impeccible manners.

Once in the limousine he chuckled again, reaching over to buckle Delylah up, before reaching forward to pour all three of them a glass of water. It was a habit for him to drink whenever he could, one Delylah thankfully picked up without a fuzz. For her it was especially important to learn those habits through him as a role model. And well, hydratoin after a long flight was not bad either.

“Oh yeah. It is absolute madness, here. So while we have hotel rooms, we don’t have to stay there, actually. We have to use them to get ready for the show, but if you want to, we can all stay at Karens. Her house is large enough and she offered. We can’t go there before dinner, though, I’m afraid.” He smiled as he saw his daughter gently tuck on Tanis shirt to get her attention.

“Look, Daddy got me a new bracelett.” She lifted her arm to show her the new pink and red charm bracelett that Will had made for her. It had charms of an ambulance, a little dancer, a little heard and to tags, one that announced her diabetes, and one that announced her allergy to latex. He had made sure it would be something she would like to wear and it seemed like she did. He pulled his shirt sleeve back to show them his own.

The news that his brother, his standup brother Steve, was arrested for killing the governor of all people struck William hard. He couldn’t belive it, so he decided to see for himself what had happened. Him and Steve had talked, of course, so he knew someone he could turn to.

Upon arrival in Oahu he found that Detective Williams was not working for the HPD at that moment, which made it a little harder, but luckily he and Steve still had friends there, namely Duke Lukela, an old friend of the family, too, who gave Will Detective Williams address. 

He drove there that very evening, in Steve’s car. Once there, he fidgeted for a moment before knocking on the door, waiting for his brothers partner and friend to open the door. 

Once he did he gave him a small smile. So that was the cop from Jersey that his brother spoke so highly of, without even realizing he did so at times.

“I remember you telling me about it.” Tani said with a soft smile. It was really adorable how he got his priorities straight without thinking twice. His kids came first, everything else didn’t matter, even if it was such a big even like the Golden Globe awards. “Is he feeling any better? You said it was quite bad and that’s why you didn’t attend the awards.” And since he wasn’t there, she assumed Luca was either with the nanny or with Karen. When it came to coparenting, from what she gathered, him and Karen worked really well.

Feeling a tug on her hand, Tani looked down to see Delylah almost eagerly trying to pull her towards the exit. She gave a soft laugh. “Looks like she’s almost as eager as I am about the next few days It’s a lot for sure, but I’m here for it. I feel like this is a one in a lifetime opportunity and I don’t intend to miss anything.” She was here for the whole deal, from rehearsals to the red carpet, even though she did have a slight fear being her dorky self then and there. But even if it happened, she wasn’t about to change who she was for the sake of not embarrassing herself and Will.

“Just please tell me you’re the one to do the interviews, especially on the red carpet. I know some interviewers pull the atendees aside and do a small one on one.” There were small chances anybody would interview her, but she just wanted to be sure about it.

“He is much better, thank you. Fever is down, tummy seems to not hurt anymore, the rash is gone. He is his mischievous self again.” Will smiled. “You will probably see him tonight. He’s with Karen right now and she plans on joining us for dinner. I have to warn you, the company did tip off some paparazzi for that. They want you and Karen to be seen friendly together, so no ‘Homewrecker’ whatever rumors come up sunday.” Not that they could stop them, really. People would always talk, no matter what.. “We’re going to ‘The Magic Castle’. Food and a magic show.” He figured that was something both Tani and Delylah would enjoy and maybe Luca, too. He knew Karen loved them, as did he. Luca might just still be a little too young too understand it. But he was certainly well behaved and adorable enough to come with them.

“Oh yeah, you don’t have to do any interviews. You are free to outright refuse them or push them onto me.” Will chuckled as he offered Delylah his hand so they could walk out of the airport. He grabbed Tani’s bag, which a bodyguard took from him right after. “Thank you,” he said kindly to the man. Since the company hired these two this one was always taking things out of his hands when he was in any form inetracting with his kids so he could fully devote himself to them. He was super grateful for that kindness.

It took her a few moments to actually register the bodyguards that were with him, but since they didn’t react to her, probably because Will told them about her, she didn’t really bother with them either. In fact, after the hug, all of the spotlight was stolen by little Delylah who dashed forward to hug her legs. Tani laughed and moved down to her level to hug her properly. She was such a little sweetheart, and while Will was visiting, they spent a lot of time together and through her, and Will considering he was always there when she needed to get her blood sugar tested or insulin injected, she learned about diabetes, which also meant she could more or less at least make out cues on it. Tani softly ruffled her hair and chuckled. “She’s as adorable as ever, and wearing such a cute dress as well!” She gave Delylah a smile and then moved up to look at Will again.

“A limousine?” Things were really serious apparently, maybe even more than she realized at that point. “It’s that serious now? Did the fame kick in? I watched the Globes, and even listened to the demo version of the song and later the official audio. Every award is well deserved!” The song was very touching, simple, very different from all the flashy songs that usually got nominated and won the big awards. It was all the more reason to keep her fingers crossed for the best possible outcome. “As long as nobody minds me being in sweatpants and a T-Shirt during rehearsals, I’m game! Delylah and I will have lots of fun during the rehearsals. And speaking of… the bodyguards are part of the Awards security?”

Will chuckled as she asked those questions. “It’s just a thing the movie company does.” As regarding to the limousine. He didn’t want to mention the fact, that it was the only bullet proof car they could get their hands on for him. He would have to break those news to her eventually, but not right now. Now she just arrived and they would have lots of quiet moments in the mayhem surrounding the Oscars.

“Thank you. I watched the Globes, too.” He chuckled. “Luca was sick.” Maybe Steve had told her already, or wait, he actually did. His head was a bit in nervous mode. His first public live performance of the song would be the bloody Academy Awards after all. That was nerve wracking!

“Oh, nobody will mind. Everyone will be in sweatpants and shirts, including me. The most dressed up person at rehearsals will be Dely. And she rocks that dress.” The girl giggled as her father reached out to ruffle her locks.

Tani didn’t really expect anybody to show up anytime soon in the headquarters. Danny, Steve and Lou were out on the field, investigating a few leads they had on their latest case, Jerry, if she managed to understand correctly, was out of town for some convention on Maui and Junior was trying to get the relationship with his dad on somewhat friendly terms again. It left her alone there, working on bits and pieces of paperwork, at least the parts she could do and going through footage of street cams to see if she could find something else that might be important.

So when the door to her office opened, Tani looked up and was instantly confused. She needed to look twice to make sure that this was Steve who entered, except it wasn’t Steve, but pretty much a copy of him. “Uh… hi.” The slight surprise was still there, which Tani shook off moments later with a small, maybe a bit of the nervous side, chuckle. “Sorry for staring, you just look a lot like McGarrett. Had to make sure it’s not actually him. But you’re out of luck. Him and Danny are out working a case and I’ve no clue when they’re coming back. I’m Tani. Maybe I can help you? Or if you want, I could call him and give him a heads up you’re waiting for him?”

Will chuckled at her reaction. He was well aware that he and Steve looked very similar. It came with the territory of being this closely related as they were. And honestly, their genes in that department were not bad at all and he knew it. He gave the young woman, probably somewhere around his own age, he would have to ask Steve, a charming smile.

“What a funny coincedence,” he said, keeping the charm on and smiling happily at the new team member of his brothers. “ A funny little idea came into his mind. Given that he had something in his suitcase that was of interest to both partners, he decided to play a little with Tani.

“You’d think Danny would have mentioned something like that before. You could give Danny a call, actually. I brought the salt he wanted from New York.” Which he actually did as Steve had mentioned it to him and for Will it was easy to just drive downtown and get the salt and pack it. Given that he had taken private jets, that helped a lot in the pure quantity of salt he brought. And Danny actually never mentioned that Steven and William looked similar, because he knew even before he landed in Honolulu that they were going to collect his little brother, so to him it was no surprise.

William hadn’t known he would come to Honolulu until two days before the flight took off. He decided to use this moment to surprise his older brother and introduce him to his new niece. As it was a business trip, he had a wonderful hotel room, a suite in the Hilton Hawaiian Village, that could also house his nanny, Vicky, which was who was taking care of Delylah at that very moment.

He had heard of the new team members his brother had assembled, but had not met any of the newbies yet. He was pretty curious to meet the young blood Steve had told him about. As it turned out the security guard remembered him - the physical similarity to Steve probably made that easier. He still gave him his ID as he gave him a visitors pass.

Making his way up he found the HQ of Five-0 rather empty. Neither Steve, nor Danny were anywhere to be seen. Louis Grovers office was empty, too, as well as Chins former office. Konos former office was however occupied by a young woman. So, Will guessed, he would meet a newbie first.
