âThere will be plenty,â The moment they were out of sight of the hall she scooped the little girl up. âWeâve not once run short of food at Winterfell since I came here.â By Northern standards it was a warm keep, and the water pipped through the walls kept them all from freezing but more importantly it kept the glass gardens warm. âAnd Iâve been here longer than youâve been alive my girl.â No matter she was still convinced some nights that sheâd freeze solid were it not for Ned.
âAfter youâve had a bath and you get changed weâll talk about it,â The girl couldnât very well go to bed on an empty stomach, but Cat didnât want her throwing it up again. âBut Maester Luwin is the one who makes the final decision not me.â
âY-youâre sure.â Yarelle asks, putting her arms around her grandmotherâs neck and carefully keeping the messy parts of her dress away from her grandmothers clothes. It was the fourth dress sheâd ruined today. The second by being sick, the other two had been victims of her wild spirit and a patch of Winterfellâs mud. She takes a lock of Catelynâs hair and rubs it against her cheek nervously. âYouâve been âere a long time? Mumma had never lived a winter before this one. She was born aâ the end oâ the lasâ one though, in a snow storm. Mumma had pretty red hair too...â Her face turns sad at the thought of her mother. Where her grandmotherâs skin was pink and healthy, her motherâs had been stretched over bone and pale as a ghost.Â
âAnother bath?â Yarelle frowns. âBut I âad two tâday already. I never âad this many baths in me life!â She could only remember having one every month, at the end of her motherâs moon blood. Her mother would put her in the basin with her and scrub the dirt off. Three in a day seems excessive. âI donâ like Maester Luwin. âeâs always wantinâ me tâ drink this anâ thaâ anâ itâ always tastes bad.âÂ

An idea begins to form in Nedâs head, about how he will approach this delicate subject. He wants to meet her mother first, whoever it is that Jon made a child with. Maybe she will understand? Maybe she hadnât know how to tell the girl after Jon went back to the wall? Did Jon even know he had a daughter out here?Â
âThatâs alright, Iâm not hungry,â Ned replied as he started to follow her. He knew food was scarce here farther north of the wall. He wouldnât want to impose upon them anyway, and there was food back at the site heâd left to survey from.Â
Yarelle grins toothily at the man and climbs over the crest of the hill. At the base of it is a sprawling freefolk camp. âThaâs home. Mumma should be âome with Brielle anâ Darren now.â Brielle and Darren were her mothers siblings, though Darren was only four years older then her, and Brielle was a half wit.Â
âGood cause we donâ got much food anâ Mumma doesnâ always get tâ eat as is.â Yarelle explains, reaching for her direwolf pupâs back to steady herself on the way down the hill. âCareful, itâs icy.âÂ
I should do drafts on Ygritte and the multi. Instead Iâm going to post a starter call here.Â
So like this for some Yarelle!

Luwin had warned them all the girl would try to stuff herself at every chance for the next months. Weeks had gone by and it wasnât any easier watching her sick. âYouâve had enough for tonight, there will be plenty for breakfast tomorrow.â Winter had well and truly set in but that hadnât prevented shipments from White Harbor or further south, or harvests from the glass gardens. The situation was far from desperate thank the gods.
âWe donât want you getting sick again. Iâm sure your grandfather will make sure they save some lemon cakes for you.â
Yarelle whimpers. âB-But what if thereâs not?â Fear creeps into her voice as she again thinks of the horrific possibility of there not being any breakfast tomorrow. For most of her young life there hadnât been any breakfast, and dinner had been meager. Yarelle stops walking and turns to her grandmother, holding up her arms in a silent plea to be held.Â
âI-I donât care if i get sick again.â Yarelle mutters. âI-It doesnât have to be lemon cakes, maybe I can just have some eggs?â
@xladywinterx
It seemed as if every time Ned left the keep he brought back some stray or another. At least this one was a Stark⌠a Targaryen⌠a wilding but one with Stark blood nonetheless.  Yarelleâs sudden appearance at her grandfatherâs- great-uncleâs- side had caused an awful stir in the family. Lies long buried had come to light and the truth finally told. Most of the servants and castle staff were still ignorant of the situation thank the gods but some had guessed near enough to the truth, or some ridiculous tale they could damn well continue to believe- at least until they got all this sorted out.
âCome on,â she held a hand out to the little girl not for the first time in the past weeks. âLetâs get you upstairs and changed.â Again.
Yarelle reaches out for her grandmotherâs hand and hops off the stool. âS-sorry.â She mutters, following her grandmother out of the hall, her wide grey eyes looking around. âCan we go back after I change? Iâm still hungry.â Yarelle was perpetually hungry, but she found more and more lately various people were telling her no and that sheâd had too much.
Yarelle has major food insecurity. Sheâll steal food, hide food, hoard food and over eat when ever given the opportunity. All of it stems from the long hard winter where they nearly starved to death when she was a child
âDonât mind me. Iâll just be here. Melting.â
âI remember that winter. I was seven durinâ the worst of it. We damn near starved tâ death. Ya ever seen someone starve tâ death?â

@wildlingwolf continued from here.
At the girlâs quip, Ned gives her a good-natured chuckle. âI guess it just depends on where youâre standing. There will always be farther north to go.âÂ
He peers at her as she speaks. He doesnât know how, but this is Jonâs child- he would stake his life on it. She speaks of her father, which causes Ned to pause. âA wolf, hmm?â he mused. âI would very much like to meet your mother. Can you take me to your tent?â
Yarelle considerâs what the man has said about the North and nods. âI guess so, but youâre still not from the real north.â She pats the wolf puppy on the head as she speaks and pushes a tangle of hair from her eyes.Â
âYeah. A big white one.â Yarelle says, sheâd heard the story from her mother many times, the large white direwolf who came in the night and left her mother pregnant with Yarelle. âAlright, I guess ya can come back with us, we donâ got much tâ eat though.â
baratheonwolf:Â
Rodd looks at the girl for a moment, expression weary. His own father is a good man, a strong man. He has a hard time imagining what his life would be without him.
âThatâs⌠Iâm sorry.â Uncle Jon had explained to him that wildlings had helped in the Great War, but when he ventured out on his own he hadnât expected to meet one so friendly. Although it wasnât unwelcomed.
Yarelle shakes her head and goes back to skinning her rabbitâs. âNah, itâs not such a big deal. I think the loneliest part of it was itâs just me and me Mam.â She shrugs. âMe mam had 2 sisters and a brother, though her oldest sister and mother died shortly before I was born. We took care of the other sister and brother but I never had siblings of me own.âÂ
âMy mother used tâ tell a story about lyinâ with a great white direwolf and that he was my father, but I havenât believed thaâ in a long time.â She looks back up at the boy, most in camp werenât so friendly to kneelers but Yarelle had always been curious about them. âMe names Yarelle. We live in thaâ tent over there.â She points with one blood covered hand to a near by tent.â
onlcverswings:
âRemind me to never come and visit you⌠At all. Or try to steal a woman. Iâd rather not end up maimed, or killed.â He stated, only to run his hand over his face. He didnât understand their customs, but considering how many lived the lifestyle, he assumed they liked it. The male looked at Yarelle pointedly then, âI have spoken to her, I spoke to her several times in the past fortnight, and only one of them was in my head.â He stated, only to let out a sigh, and follow where Yarelle pointed.Â
âHave you tried speaking to him? Persuading him to go to the loft with you?â He questioned, brow raised as he took in the male. âWere you anyone else Iâd question your opinion considering his station, but alas.âÂ
âYa couldnât handle free folk life.â Yarelle grins. âMe father couldnâ handle it either.â Her smile fades slightly, she tries to avoid thinking of her father. Down here she was little else then a bastard, but up north she was her own person. Worthy of her own merits and choices. âYa havenâ spoken to her tâday. Go on. go talk tâ her.âÂ
âNo,â She admits. âBut men are lots easier then women.â She teases, nudging him in the ribs and taking another swig from her wine cup. âYa know freefolk donât care about station, and ya know Iâm not worth arguinâ with.âÂ
onlcverswings:
âWhat happens if a man that you donât care for takes you?â He asked, gaze focused on her for a moment, only to turn to the woman whom had caught his eye. Heâd be a fool to say that heâd never thought about having her before, he was a man. However, he didnât want to admit that to Yarelle. âI donât think sheâd go to the hayloft with me,â he stated, turning to look at the young woman beside him. âI do not think sheâs wild enough to do that.â Part of him deflated then, as he watched her playfully swat at another young lord, their flirtation taking a turn as the other man leaned in to whisper something to her. âNo worry now though, sheâs got her eye on someone else apparently.âÂ
Ned took a sip of his wine then, finding it had a bitter taste to it than it had before. âDo you see and âkeenerâs worth taking to a hayloft?âÂ
âYa kill âim if ya donâ want him.â Yarelle shrugs. âor maim âim in the least. Me mother did thaâ tâ the first man who tried taken âer. - or rather Longspear did.â She takes a long drink from her own wine cup and watching the woman her cousin fancied flirt with someone else. âYa know itâs kinda hard for her tâ have her eye on ya if ya never even talked tâ her.â Yarelle points out.Â
âOh yeah.â Yarelle grins, pointing to a young squire - or maybe he was a knight, Yarelle could never tell them apart. He couldnât have been older then 15, maybe 16 if he looked much younger then he was. âThaâ one thereâd be awful nice tâ have in the âayloft.âÂ
onlcverswings:
Heâd lain with a woman before, and yet the sound of his cousin speaking about the wildling customs had his cheeks ablaze. Slowly, he cleared his throat, only to take a sip of his wine. âWildling girls dream about someone coming to their tent andâŚ. Well nevermind.â He let out a huff and rubbed the back of his neck. âThe problem being, that I can not sing. I sound as as if I were a dying animal. Me singing is not something I would care for anyone to hear.â
Yarelle smiles cheekily. âOh yes, we all dream of a nice boy - or man, cominâ tâ steal us in the nighâ anâ take us somewhere for a good fuck.â She nudges her cousin playfully, she knows how uncomfortable all this talk of fucking makes her southern family. âNow Iâ ainâ never been stolen but I âave âad a good fuck an I can tell ya the hayloft in the stables would be a good place tâ take a girl. So all ya got tâ do is get âer tâ go up there with ya.âÂ

A chuckle tumbled past his lips as he turned his attention to Yarelle. âWhere Iâm from we donât just steal women in the cloak of night. Thereâs a process to making a woman yours.â He told her.
âCourtship, poems, songs, jousts.â Ned let out a sigh then and took another sip of his wine. âMy mother always taught me the surest way to a womans heart is to be kind, not to steal her. DoâŚ. Do wildlings truly do that?âÂ
âAye,â Yarelle nods. âJusâ sneak in anâ steal âer. Yer supposed tâ fuck âer good once ya steal her too.â Yarelle explains, taking a long drink of her ale and watching the other woman a moment longer. âEvery wildling girl dreams of the day sheâll be stolen. I suppose kneeler girls dream of songs though, ya tried singinâ one of those?â
"Are you one of them crows?" The seven year old asks, cocking her head to the side warily. "The kind tha' want us free folk dead?" Behind her the wolf puppy growls, as if trying to warn the man to stay away from his girl. Yarelle herself is trying to decide if she ought to try to run through the snow back to camp or maybe throw the rock she's holding.
A bemused smile plays on Nedâs lips as he considers the small child questioning him. âI prefer to be called a Northman, if youâre looking for something to call me,â he replies. He considers taking a step forward but the dog at her side makes him think twice. âAnd I donât wish death upon anyone. Not even my biggest, baddest enemies.â Gods, the girl looks so much like Jon. Like Lyanna âŚÂ
âWhere are your mother and father?â he asks, raising a brow.Â
Yarelle looks him over again, heâs got a very large sword at his side but he doesnât seem inclined to use it. She drops the rock and tilts her head to the other side. âYer not from the north. Mother says the only real north is whaâs north of the wall.âÂ
âMotherâs back in camp.â Yarelle says. âAnâ me father is a wolf so heâs not âround here.âÂ
