"what if this was a terrible idea?" it's clearly too late to be thinking about that, but josie can't stop her thoughts from becoming words. she knew things in her relationship weren't going well, especially given the time she spent away for her job, but spying on her partner and another person feels wrong. she reaches into the backseat to grab her purse, digging around for only a few seconds before she pulls out a bottle of wine. "i thought we'd need this," she mutters as an explanation, looking somewhat ashamed.

Fortunately for Marcy, Sierra has always been a bit gullible, too trusting, and her intuition is sadly lacking for someone that has the power of premonition. She can't pick up on the demon's nefarious intentions, let alone the fact that anything is off about someone that she assumes is human to begin with. For her, she is still of the mindset that those that are ill-willed still show up at random, just popping up from other realms, not people who try to assimilate into their lives like Wesley had. "Oh, no! You don't sound like a bad owner at all," she rushes to say after the explanation is given, wanting to sooth Marcy any way that she can, "That's totally understandable! You've had so much else going on, and honestly, our family cat kind of found us like that too. People call it the cat distribution system. Cats just have a way of showing up." She ushers Marcy in with her hand. "Of course it's okay! Really, I insist. Let me make you some tea or something, and when you have caught your breath, we can brainstorm some ideas together on how we can help locate your cat." And maybe Sierra could peak in the Book too.
the witch plays right into her hand, and marcy thinks this is almost too easy. it's obvious that she was right to choose the youngest sister since marcy suspects the other two might have been a bit more cautious. "cat distribution, right," marcy breathes, pretending like she knows whatever mortal system it is that the other is referencing. marcy doesn't have an actual cat, never has, so their inability to ever find said creature will only feed her narrative. she allows herself to be guided into the house, dark eyes flickering around the powerful space before she quickly lets them settle back on sierra's face, a tentative smile appearing on her own. "thank you! you're really so sweet. i wasn't sure what to think when i realized i'd have to knock on a stranger's door, but i guess you really can count on your neighbors here. that's so refreshing compared to where i came from." literal hell, actually. "have you lived here long? you and your... roommates?" she inquires, playing dumb.
It's an easy in now that Phoebe's agreed to let him make sure she got home safely. Getting a chance to check out the so-called security surrounding her place. Wren smiles warmly down at her. "Believe me, I don't think of you as some damsel in distress," he reassures. Though for a journalist who's supposed to have good instincts, he couldn't claim she has the best gut instincts. Not if she can't tell how dangerous the man she's allowed into life is.
As the elevator dings and the door opens, he waits for her to step in before following after. He glances at her in his peripherals once the door closes and they head to their desired floor. "So I know you said you have a 'plan', but please tell me you do actually have some precautions set in place." Wren's prying for information but continues to mask it as concern. "Otherwise, maybe I can help. I'm sure it's better with two people to figure things out than do it all on your own."
phoebe blows out a relieved breath that turns into soft laughter as she steps onto the elevator. she does feel a prick of nerves as the doors shut, essentially locking them in the small chamber together, but she chalks it up to nothing more than her feeling anxious around a handsome co-worker. a handsome co-worker set on trying to keep her safe. if that's not a double whammy, she doesn't know what is. phoebe would think her life was turning into a romantic comedy if she believed in that sort of thing, but fortunately she was too level-headed for that sort of thing... or so she thinks.
"precautions?" the blonde's brows knit together as she tilts her head back to look up at wren. she taps some fingers along her lip, appearing to consider this before she says, "oh! you must be talking about the privacy fence and the two guard dogs i keep for protection. doesn't every girl in the city?" her eyes glint, betraying that she's joking before she cracks a smile. sensing how serious he is, phoebe sighs. "i have the same lock on my door as most people. i guess that's not going to cut it if this is for real." not that she even knows what this is.
Wesley doesn't have a plan. That's becoming the problem. For so long, he has been steadfast in his belief that everything would turn out like it's supposed to. That the rules that he abides by set forth by the Elders served a higher purpose that he should obey rather than question. He has always followed the path set out for him, and stepping out of it shouldn't cross his mind. Not when there is the greater good to think about. He tries to focus on that, focus on the innocent. "You may be right, but I...don't know what else to do. At least it's a place to start." And maybe there will be clues that help them out when they get there. He's grasping at straws, and grasping Shiloh's hand, orbing them away in a flash. When they arrive, he releases her hand, as if the touch is scalding, and his eyes frantically search around, trying not to think about how all it would take is one single touch from the dark lighter to kill Katie.
shiloh admires how protective wesley is, his diligence in protecting his charges, herself and her sisters included. it's one of the things that makes it so easy for her to love him. stop it! she physically shakes her head to try and rid herself of that pesky thought. moments later, white light surrounds them, a familiar weightlessness blooming in her chest at the simplicity of being with wesley. "katie?" shiloh calls, spinning around and forcing herself to look away from where their hands had once touched. the house is quiet, almost painfully so. her steps are quick as she moves to another room, which turns out to be the kitchen, which is empty, just like the bathroom she checks next. "i don't think they're here. can you hear her? is she..." shiloh's lips press tightly together, not wanting to finish the sentence. "you would know, right? if he was hurting her?"
ā . . . well in that case . . . hypothetically speaking, where do i have to go to put my money on you?ā izabel mused with a playful smirk. someone that confident in their fighting abilities, whoād just shown her that he could back them up even, was someone that izabel would bet on in a heartbeat. hypothetically. regardless, she cast a glance back over her shoulder to make sure the other was following her as she moved, before pausing just out of the bustle of the bar. a laugh escaped her as a shrug lifted her shoulders in a partial response. "maybe so. and maybe i feel like it's also part of my way of paying you back for coming to my aid so chivalrously." she grinned in return, hands on hips as she nodded in agreement. "yea i think you're right. 'spose they weren't banking on a fight being their patrons' form of entertainment tonight, eh?" the journalist followed ronan towards the exit, sticking her hand out as she paused whilst passing by him. "izabel. and what may my knight in shining armor go by?" she hummed teasingly.
her question elicits a chuckle. even if the question is hypothetical, it's not totally off the mark. ronan's fighting has certainly protected more than just people, and one could argue it has secured him some money a time or two, something he's less inclined to share with a stranger, even one as pretty as her. "save your money. i use my powers only for good, i promise." the words pass his lips with such lightness that it's impossible to tell it's all a lie. his family business is arguably not good, but it's nice to feel like a good guy for once. he stares at her outstretched hand for a moment, eventually clasping it in his own and giving it a light shake. "ronan. nice to meet you, nurse izabel." he lets the touch linger a few seconds before moving his hand to the small of her back, taking it upon himself to guide her back to the street. the night air is cooler than it was when he walked in, but it fels good on his sore face. ronan looks up and down the empty street before facing izabel again. "hungry? fighting works up my appetite, and you said you wanted to pay me back..." hope glints in his eyes.
maya winced at his reaction, stepping back from the body with her hands up, every inch of her body VIBRATING as adrenaline still pulsed rapidly through her. slowly, she turned her hands to look at them, flexing her fingers, palms wet and sticky with blood. her breaths elevated, gaze snapping up to his, lips parting to speak but clamping shut again. she nodded her head at his question, glancing back down at the body, swallowing hard; ā y-yeah i'm... i'm fine.ā she stammered, looking up at him as he stepped forward, she took another step back. it was wild that she was scared of HIM when she was the one that quite literally just stabbed someone to death. frowning at his proclamation, though it was true, she lowered her hands; ā he was one of the fucking psychos sending me those death threats. i don't know.... whatā fuck, what am i'm going to do ?? you have to help me, charlie i... jesus christ. do we call the police ?? what the fuck do we do ?? ā
charlie isn't offended by the way she moves away from him, quick to remind himself that she's just in shock. he's never killed anybody, but he guesses it's a pretty jarring thing to experience. the fear radiating from her solidifies that in his mind. "guess you really do know how to hold your own." there's a lightness to the words, almost teasing, clearly inappropriate for the moment, but he can't deny being a little impressed. charlie has never been known for his appropriateness. "remind me never to fuck with you," he adds, brows furrowing as he turns his attention back to the unwelcomed guest occupying the floor. how the fuck is he supposed to help her with this? it's not like he's unwilling, just doesn't know where to start. eventually he pulls his jacket off and tosses it across the room, wanting it far away from the blood. "we're not calling the fucking cops, maya. only amateurs do that shit. that's never the right idea." his tone says he's offended she'd suggest it, but truthfully, charlie is jaded from years of his own run-ins with law enforcement. "we just need to... fuck, get rid of this dude, i guess. move him or something." he looks at maya again, already expecting pushback. "unless you want a rotting corpse as your new roommate?

she had been crying in the store but dahlia doesn't particularly like the reminder, glaring as he mentions it. "that wasn't dramatic. what, have you never seen a woman cry?" she isn't usually a woman who cries in public, but that's neither here nor there. "typical." at least her eyes don't deceive her again. she's just relieved that she isn't crying once more by the time they arrive. she glances at him from the corner of her eye. "you are being nice," she responds, almost accusatory. "but i somehow doubt that you're a gentleman. just keeping up appearances, then?" something that she's all too used to.
"not in the middle of the dollar store," murmurs declan, though if he really thinks about it, he probably has. people in small towns tend to be a little too comfortable with each other, something she's bound to find out sooner or later. he laughs at her accusation. "believe it or not, i don't care much about appearances. my parents couldn't be less proud." not that he cares now, or that he ever has. he's antisocial on a good day, and compared to his family, he's practically a hermit, but he recognizes this woman needs... some kind of help. he's not completely heartless. "do you want free food or not?" he gets out of his truck without waiting for her response.
he's bringing out a side of her that she doesn't like, one that she doesn't even know. mabel has spent years with a closed off heart, avoiding the mess that is letting people in. suddenly he's there and she wants to knock down all of the walls around her, to show parts of herself that she's been avoiding for so long. the silence between them is torturous at first, waiting for him to say anything. even shooting her down would be worse than silence. the answer that he finally gives doesn't make her feel any better, the yearning in her becoming hungry. "your lack of answer is an answer," she points out, even though it isn't. she's still cloudy, not sure what any of this means. it shouldn't mean anything. "i don't know how you think i would use anything against you. i'm not here to hurt you." and it hurts that he would think that she is. "either way i won't stop you from being...happy." although somehow she doubts that's what he is.
ronan doesn't argue with her. he knows that he's saying more by saying less. he shouldn't even be entertaining this, whatever this is, but no part of him feels capable of standing up and walking away from her the way she walked away from their relationship. "i know why you're here, mabel. that doesn't change the fact that this hurts. can you blame me for not expecting you to care about my happiness? after everything?" what exactly it is he's referring to, he doesn't know. seeing her? talking to her? listening to her wish him well on newest relationship? he's not conceited enough to think she wants to hurt him, but he doesn't recognize this version of her as the one that he loved. he averts his gaze to the half-full plate on the table, though he's not longer hungry. "i really am sorry about your dad. how's your mom? nadine?"
june'sĀ eyesĀ widen,Ā andĀ momentsĀ passĀ inĀ silenceĀ asĀ sheĀ pondersĀ theĀ questionĀ posedĀ toĀ her.Ā "don'tĀ youĀ haveĀ someoneĀ elseĀ youĀ canĀ ask?Ā aĀ closeĀ friendĀ whoĀ knowsĀ youĀ well?Ā maybeĀ aĀ crush,Ā even?"Ā theĀ wordĀ sendsĀ aĀ faintĀ acheĀ toĀ herĀ chest,Ā theĀ ideaĀ ofĀ herĀ exĀ developingĀ romanticĀ feelingsĀ forĀ someoneĀ elseĀ soĀ soonĀ isĀ ratherĀ depressing.Ā butĀ that'sĀ lifeĀ andĀ peopleĀ moveĀ on.Ā herĀ handsĀ restĀ onĀ theĀ table,Ā fingersĀ intertwiningĀ beforeĀ releasingĀ onceĀ again.Ā "i'mĀ justĀ notĀ sureĀ ifĀ thisĀ isĀ aĀ goodĀ idea,Ā that'sĀ all."Ā beingĀ forcedĀ toĀ pretendĀ they'reĀ stillĀ inĀ love,Ā whenĀ theĀ painĀ ofĀ theirĀ breakupĀ isĀ farĀ fromĀ resolved.
audrey thought nothing could be worse than begging an ex-girlfriend to be her date to a family event, but it seems she's destined to sink even lower. "i don't have a crush on anyone, june," she replies, taking great effort not to sound resentful and undoubtedly failing. "my parents know all of my close friends, and that's not exactly going to fix the problem of explaining why you aren't there." she still can't put into words why she cares if her parents know about the break-up or not, but her focus remains on convincing june to help. "you're right, it's probably not a good idea. it's probably a terrible idea, actually, but i wouldn't ask if i wasn't sure about it."
"Men like him rarely do," she trailed off with a sigh. For every nice guy out there, there were assholes to make up for it, "but at least he'll never try to bother me again." Defne had a cynical view of life, but at least the man sitting in front of her had restored a little bit of hope in her. "I'm sure you've never looked better either," she teased him, before asking the bartender for another drink for him, "I'm doing better now because of you," her hands pulled away from his face, examining the damage that had been done, "seriously, is there anything I can do for you other than get you a drink?"
"no need to inflate my ego when i've already defended your honor," ronan jests, his tone growing lighter as he teases her back. it seems that getting punched is worth more than just ensuring the woman's safety since it seems to be paying off, at least as far as ronan can tell. he straightens a bit under her gaze, starting to raise a brow but stopping when it makes him wince. "maybe i'm less bulletproof than i thought," he admits with a low chuckle. "you can have a drink with me, and let me pay. could also tell me your name if you're feeling generous."
" BECAUSE SOMEONE ELSE DID THIS ! we don't even know who this is ! someone has to be connected to them that isn't us ! like, whoever did it, i mean !" dawn has to rub at her temples with both hands then, scoffing mid movement at tyler's response as she raises her gaze to glare at her . " well, fuck, i don't trust cops at all, ty ! that's why i didn't want to fuck with them period, but please, if you've got a better idea, i'd love to hear it !" dawn combs their hands through their hair then, looking at tyler expectantly before they're closing their eyes tightly and adding, " and just know that if you suggest ignoring it one more fucking time i might genuinely tackle you ." dawn knows that they aren't a particularly patient person by nature . it just wasn't in the cards for them . but tyler suggests ignoring it and dawn, to their credit, does not tackle her . they even keep their voice to a low hiss as they throw their arms up and snap, "we cannot just fucking drive around with a dead guy in the trunk, tyler ! how many times do i have to say this ? what if we get fucking ā pulled overĀ ?"
"not to state the obvious, but they're already dead, dawn. it's not like they can wake up and tell us what the fuck is going on, so i guess we're just gonna have to move past the not knowing part, okay?" tyler gestures idly to the body in the question, not daring to look at it again. once was more than enough, and if seeing a dead body weren't striking enough, the smell is certainly something she'll never forget. "jesus, okay. no need to freak out and add a second body to the count," she scoffs, disregarding the fact that they already are freaking out, even if tyler's version of it looks more like she's inconvenienced by the situation. she does feel inconvenienced, but reason is slowly catching up with her, especially after dawn mentions getting pulled over. "fine. we're not ditching the car, and we're not riding around like this. that leaves one option, right?" dark hues settle back on the other's face as a brow quirks up, her expression providing the answer before she vocalizes it. "we're dumping it," she says simply, already turning in a circle to inspect just how isolated this area of road is. it's the middle of the desert, so there's not much in way of cover, but she doesn't spot any cars coming. "we should hurry," she adds matter-of-factly.

ā in your dreams. ā her expression doesnāt change as she looks up at him, not allowing a single emotion to play out on her features, not wanting him to know that he got under her skin. which was a rare accomplishment for anyone but, she could only assume it was due to the night they spent together weeks ago, a night that she had one too many margaritas and had thought she would forget about their little hook up the night morning. but clearly, she hadnāt and she hated herself for it. ā i havenāt been avoiding you. ā she lies, dark hues dropping to the phone in her hand, studying the calendar of upcoming events she had been looking at prior to running into him. ā iāve just been busy. ā she shrugs, clicking off her phone and sliding it into her back pocket. ā why are you here anyways? your bandās not set to record anything until next month. āĀ
"now that you mention it, you have been in my dreams. how'd you know?" he narrows his eyes in a serious way, like the question is genuine, but amusement flickers over his expression, a sign he's getting pleasure from this little exchange of theirs. he would never admit to actually liking her, so he blames it on the thrill of the chase. the way his blue eyes track her is clearly salacious, something he doesn't bother to hide. "would you believe i came to see you?" his gaze finally lifts back to her face, a brow raising as he poses the question. but he knows that's bordering on creepy, so he laughs it off and shakes his head, a hand moving up to drag through his dark curls. "the label wants me to record some instrumental stuff for another band to work with. guess their drummer's pretty shit, but everyone is compared to me, right?" bold of him to sound this cocky and to insult a member of the band she manages, but his grin never wavers. "c'mon, you're happy to see me. don't lie, evie."
she doesn't have any reason to trust gabriel, or anyone else in his family...but he doesn't have a reason to trust her either. she decides to accept what he's saying blindly, reminding herself that she can avoid his father herself. probably. the real problem is that she doesn't know if she can trust herself either. "your mother can't find out," she readily agrees, not wanting to face...whatever outcome that would lead to. she deserves to know, but cass does not want to be around if she ever finds out. a resort in spain. this is probably a cosmic punishment and yet it feels like the best kind of punishment. she tries not to look too excited and it's easy, considering that she's still sick to her stomach. "that's fine. i've obviously shared rooms with...worse." she sighs. "i guess i'll go back. do you want my number so you can give me the details, or...you can come and we can figure out our story?"
it sounds almost like a compliment, and gabriel would smile at it if not for their unpleasant situation at time, a situation that he himself is responsible for continuing, even if his father started this. surprise registers on his face at the invitation. "did you invite him over this fast?" the question is out too fast, and he raises a hand just as quickly. "don't answer that," he mutters, craning his neck to look back at his parents' house. part of him just wants this entire interaction to end so he can find something else to do, something to get his mind off of this, but a larger part of him wants to know more about this woman. when he speaks again, it's on the end of a sigh, shoulders lifting as if weighing out the consequences of his answer. "fine, i'll come over. we can sort out the details and maybe get to know each other, at least enough to pull this off." an added bonus is that he won't have to help his mother do any more packing, unaware he'll likely end up helping cass pack.
