If only I could freeze this moment in time. Stay wrapped around you, drowning in your warmth, feel your heartbeat against mine every single night, and never let the world pull me away. Instead, I'm here with tears soaking my eyes and this ache clawing at my chest like it wants to hollow me out completely.
With you and Bolt, I am whole. And right now I'm walking through my days with that wholeness ripped clean out of me, forced to function like it doesn't hurt.
I can't smell him anymore, that warm, familiar smell that means home. I can't sink my hands into his fur, I can't look into his eyes and feel like I'm looking at everything I have ever wanted. I can't watch him do something which he is absolutely not allowed to and feel my heart melt anyway, powerless against how much I adore him.
Instead there's just this endless, quiet ache where the two of you should be. A void I carry everywhere I go. And I am supposed to smile, supposed to be fine, supposed to move through the world like I am not missing my entire heart. But every single piece of me is aching to be back in your arms, with him curled up beside us, where I actually belong.
