I wanted to write out the songās different POVās for myself since fictionalization also plays a big role in this album, just to make things more clear in my mind. And I thought Iāll share my notes for anyone else interested. Everything in this post is just my opinion! Just to be clear, everything is up for interpretation. I feel like folklore gives me many vibes of Taylorās older albums as well.
the 1: Taylorās POV. Quotes Me!: āFor never leaving well enough aloneā
cardigan: a song part of theĀ ālove triangleā Taylor described. POV of a girl named Beth.
the last great american dynasty: POV ofĀ Rebekah Harkness, former owner of Taylorās house in RI, at the end it shifts to Taylorās POV. Rebekah was also known asĀ āBettyā, -> cardigan
exile: Taylorās POV I think. Interesting isĀ āand i didnāt like the endingā which reminds of the lyric in āif this was a movieā.Ā
my tears ricochet: Taylorās POV I think. It gives me treacherous vibes kinda, but the lyrics are literally the opposite. taylor said the song is about an embittered tormentor showing up at the funeral of his fallen object of affection.
mirrorball: Taylorās POV. she is the mirrorball. she singsĀ āIām still on that tightropeāĀ which immediately reminded me of ālost your balance on a tightropeāĀ
seven: child POV (taylor?). this is the only song in which she sings āfolk songsā and sings about braids which reminded me of the album photoshoot.
august: teen POV / POV of the āotherā girl part of the ālove triangleā. the summer love. this is one of the songs that gave me such debut album vibes.
this is me trying: student / young adult POV. why Iām thinking this is because ofĀ āI was so ahead of the curve, the curve became a sphere // fell behind all my classmates and I ended up hereā and the use of metaphors like alcohol. anyway, more mature. I was thinking, these 3 tracks (seven, august and this is me trying) are actually perfectly fit behind each other on the track list. They are all different timeframes. I think thereās a lot of taylor in this song too
illicit affairs: Taylorās POV. āyou showed me colors you know I canāt see with anyone elseā -> red / golden / daylight reference. the whole song makes me think ofĀ āi loved you in secretā. it actually gave meĀ āthe other womanā vibes first, but then i read the lyrics again and i donāt think itās part of the love triangle, but august is because it fits theĀ āyoung loveā narrative.

mad woman: Taylorās POV. yeahhh!! tellĀ āemā¦.
epiphany: military / doctorās POV?
betty: part of the love triangle, the guyās POV.
peace: Taylorās POV.Ā āI would die for you in secretā she sings again, like in earlier albums āI loved you in secretā //Ā āRemember how I said Iād die for you?ā
hoax: Taylorās POV.Ā ādonāt want no other shade of blue but youā. she also singsĀ āmy kingdom come undoneā which reminded me of the kingdom lyric in long live. thought it was interesting they both are closing tracks.
