I want to lay my palm upon your altar, to have the liminal tension of skin and wood.
I want your name as syllables that transcend the unexpected starlight, the remembered rain, the sudden breeze soft against damp hair.Â
The snow falls as something pure and hypnotic, and so falls your being and becoming, the presence of the known and unknown and the unknowable,
where resonance rolls out beyond all boundaries and draws rapt awe into silence.Â
I donât want a lukewarm love. I want it to burn my lips and engulf my soul.

One's self only knows what is near one's heart, each reads but himself aright: no sickness seems to sound mind worse than to have lost all liking for life.
HĂĄvamĂĄl 95, trans. Lee M. Hollander.
The struggle I have with my faith is that I have so little to give at this time in my life.
My love is a threadbare love. It is won so easily by an unexpected snatch of music or a moment of rain. And it is a love mixed with my own absence. I am rarely here for myself. My presence is something I stitch together day after day, picking up scraps of myself and smoothing them out between my fingers.
It's hardly anything to lay upon an altar.

There is a certain respect and admiration I hold for hagiography, and despite notable differences there is yet inspiration I find in these works.
I'm going to start working through some papers, most of them gathered from JSTOR. If you have any ones that you particularly recommend, please let me know.
Question: Safe Ways to Give Blood Offerings?
Anonymous asked grumpylokeanelder:
what are some ways one could give blood offerings safely? (also, are there any ways that are cheap/cost nothing?)

Silence and distance both communicate something quiet, sometimes cold, something soothing, truth be told.
You must be ready to burn yourself in your own flame; how could you rise anew if you have not first become ashes?

LSATs over (for now). So here I am again.
Further Discussions on Mythic Time: GĂśdel's Incompleteness Theorums
For those who read the post on the concept of Mythic Time yesterday and were curious about my brief mention of a similar idea being found in mathematics: I asked my husband, and the concept he was thinking about at the time was GĂśdelâs Incompleteness Theorums and the impact those had. The best laymanâs summary I could find comes from Boyerâs History of Mathematics: âGĂśdel showed that within a rigidly logical system such as Russell and Whitehead had developed for arithmetic, propositions can be formulated that are undecidable or undemonstrable within the axioms of the system. That is, within the system, there exist certain clear-cut statements that can neither be proved or disproved. Hence one cannot, using the usual methods, be certain that the axioms of arithmetic will not lead to contradictions ⌠It appears to foredoom hope of mathematical certitude through use of the obvious methods. Perhaps doomed also, as a result, is the ideal of science - to devise a set of axioms from which all phenomena of the external world can be deduced.â Further information:

A really good lecture on GĂśdel and his Incompleteness Theorums thatâs easily understandable (but 45 minutes long).

People are probably already aware of some of this, but it bears repeating for newbies and seekers.
The Sacred Text Archives - Icelandic Lore Section - older materials, so read with a grain of salt and know that some of the texts are going to be quite âdatedâ, to put it lightly.
Sunnyway - concentrates mostly on runes. Good for quick reference for some things. Read with a grain of salt, as there are some pages with disinformation or modern inventions that I find rather silly, such as Stav Martial Arts. (Thatâs a topic for a whole other thread.)
Heimskringla - an online collection of Old Norse source material and various goodies. This Site. UNF. Do note that some pages are only available in certain Scandinavian languages. Google Translate is your friend.
Northvegr - free reading materials. This will keep you busy for awhile. Be sure to check out the translation of Lokka Tattur.
Iâll probably post more recommendations when I get back home and have access to my archives, or as I stumble across valuable resources.
Question: Loki's Binding and Mythic Time?
Anonymous asked grumpylokeanelder:
Hi, I am interested in norse mythology and I have read some Lokeanâs blogs. Itâs really appealing to me but I donât understand how Loki can interact with humans if he is bound under a snake until the end of the world.

Iâm going to plus Eliadeâs Myth of the Eternal Return right here again. (Is everyone sick of me talking about it yet?) It explains mythic time and other key important concepts on how the mythic and mortal interact with laborious examples.Â
Great recommendation. It completely slipped my mind!

Odin is more than a warrior and berserker. Anyone who tells you that you have to join the military in order to devote yourself to Odin is full of shit.
Heâs also the skald, patron of poets and wisdom! He has so many aspects, and not all of them are terrible and fearsome.Â
