Who has grown up without reading Dr. Seuss books, or at least Cat In The Hat? At Storybook Island in South Dakota, every child gets that opportunity. How? You might ask... Well... I will tell you. You wander down paths, past dragons and through ice cream cones... You hitch a ride on Noah’s ark and travel the yellow brick road. Eventually you find your journey winding past a little red house with a cat sitting on a bench.

Now this cat is no ordinary cat. This cat, well... he wears a hat. “My Lord, he wears a hat?” you gasp – Yes.. He wears a hat!

And this house.. It’s no ordinary house. “How is it different?” You ask… Indeed.. This house has writing on the walls. –le gasp-

Take a breath my friend. It has pictures too.

“Is it an Egyptian pyramid?” I do hear they held their cats in high esteem back then- maybe they wore hats and there was always writing and pictures on the walls – Well… I have to say… no; But this is better..

Why?

Because this house was built for children… This house is in bright cartoon colors. This house draws you in with walls painted with the pages of the very famous Dr. Seuss book “The Cat In The Hat”.

Ooooo… ahhhhh…

I know! I ooo’d and awe’d too!

The book is a famous staple in almost every child’s book shelf or now a-days their tablet… Although to me nothing beats the feel of the book in your hands. Let’s face it, the child reader of tomorrow will more than likely be reading from some sort of touch screen device.  Sad, but true.

Ahhh... but at Storybook Island, they get to stand and read and point and touch and ask you to read it again and again while they climb all over the Cat In The Hat. Here they see the photos up close and personal, and when they get home they want to hold that book in their hands and look at the pictures and read the words over and over again.

What a wonderful way to bring books to life for children; To open their minds to the concept of reading.  Dr. Seuss. The master rhymer. The ‘maker upper’ of words who showed us it is fun to create nonsense words and rhyme them with more nonsense words; To foster the love of reading early on…

I actually think I would like to listen to him as a narrator of fiction audio books. I feel like he never truly felt like he belonged and he may have always felt like an outsider looking in. He has had a lot of self doubt and tried to compensate anyway he could. We see him grow and mature as a person, from succumbing to his experiences growing up with an addicted mother falling into her habits to owning his mistakes and bad choices, striving to learn and be a better man and father for his own child.

The memoir's narrative structure offers readers a multifaceted view of Feldman's life. The dance metaphor is not merely a title but a guiding principle that adds a unique and engaging layer to the storytelling. Each chapter unfolds like a carefully crafted dance routine, revealing the intricate steps of Feldman's life with precision and flair.

There are certain aspects of his book when he talks about people he has known, such as Michael Jackson and Corey Haim where his feelings and emotion really bubble forward. These are two people he really loved in his life and that’s very evident.

While teapots sing and moonwalk, wearing dapper bowler hats,

Jellyfish wear polka dots, and penguins tap dance too,

With kangaroos on trampolines, bouncing high and true.

The snails zoom on roller skates, with snazzy neon trails,

While rubber ducks parade along, blowing tiny fairy sails,

Giraffes on unicycles juggle oranges in the air,

As caterpillars ride a train, their laughter fills the square.

The sun wears big sunglasses, and the clouds do cartwheels bright,

Love has a peculiar way of deceiving us, blinding our senses to the flaws and shortcomings of those we hold most dear. It is a tale of shattered dreams and unfulfilled promises, as I recount my journey towards a heart-wrenching realization that I had been clutching onto hope in a relationship devoid of any genuine connection. In the midst of longing for a power couple dynamic, all I found was emptiness and a painful lack of authentic communication. This essay unravels the layers of deceit, disappointment, and personal growth that accompanied my emancipation from a relationship built on the crumbling foundation of lies.

The roots of our relationship were nurtured by the tender blossoms of hope, promising a bond that defied the ordinary. Yet, as time wore on, those petals shriveled and lost their luster, revealing a stark reality that I had been oblivious to. I finally saw through the veil of my own desires, recognizing that he had always looked out for his own interests, never pausing to appreciate my worth or offer the slightest compliment.

The realization that our relationship thrived on disconnection struck me with a force that left me gasping for air. How had I been so blind, so consumed by my own desires that I failed to perceive the glaring signs? We, who could have been a power couple, dissipated into mere adversaries, bickering over trivial matters rather than uniting in a foundation of trust and respect. Every conversation was filled with hidden agendas and manipulative tactics, further dividing what possibly could have been a union of strength.

Communication, an indispensable cornerstone of any meaningful relationship, was nothing more than a facade in ours. His words danced artfully, masquerading as truths, while my heart yearned for him to reveal his vulnerabilities and deepest musings. Yet, our connection was but a mirage, an illusion that, upon reflection, only served his egoistic purposes. I drowned in the overwhelming chasm between his projected persona and the emptiness of his true self, bereft of the emotional sustenance I so desperately craved.

Lend me your might, Guide me through the lies. For in the rubble of a shattered dream, my phoenix will rise. He gave me nothing to hold onto, I should have known from the start for he never made a compromise and never considered my heart. 

I bid farewell to what was, with gratitude in my soul, experience contributes to what makes me whole. With each step taken, I find solace in the unknown, Unveiling my power within- I feel secure - alone. 

Though fear may whisper, tempting me to stay, I summon bravery, and I find my way. In the vast expanse of the untrodden road, I discover resilience, a story yet untold.

I gather the fragments, I release the hurt.. Nine years down, with Lessons learned. No longer bound by what used to be, Igniting my fire - setting myself free, 

With every sunrise, a new chapter begins, As I gather my resolution, ready to win. I paint my world with colors, vibrant and bold, No longer confined, a spirit uncontrolled.

In a time that covets untamed hearts and wild souls, there's a girl who’s spirit is free and bold. With eyes of fire and feral dreams, she yearns for adventure; a wanderlust queen. She dances on the edge of the world. Her heart the compass, forever swirled. She runs with wolves, she leaps with deer, she laughs in the face of fear.

With a nomad’s spirit and courage her guide, She crosses landscapes, far and wide. As she sets sail on the open seas her suitcase fills with memories.

She roams through towns with labyrinthine streets. Cobblestone paths, beneath her feet, In ancient ruins history sings, for it knows the joy that travel brings.

She wanders deserts, vast and wide, with golden dunes, where visions hide. From snow-capped peaks to jungle lore; Through bustling bazaars where adventures soar

Embracing cultures vastly diverse. Nourishing her soul, a thirst to converse. From language barriers to friendships true; Delighting her taste buds with travel’s brew

She feasts on flavors in exotic places. She captures memories of new faces. In the tapestry of an open land, her footprints found in shifting sands.
