“Give….them…back!!!” Elphaba growled through her teeth, making a hopelessly wild grab at the squealing pink blur that was her roommate.

Okay. So maybe this was just ever so slightly her fault. And maybe she had zoned out from the actual meaning of Glinda’s words just one time too many in favour of her book. But that still didn’t change one very simple fact.

“Glinda, I cannot fucking see!!”

The only response was an even more gleeful, merciless giggle from the other side of the room where Glinda had perched triumphantly atop her (if possible) even pinker bed waving Elphaba’s glasses mockingly above her own head.

Elphaba launched herself in Glinda’s direction and felt her kneecaps crash into the wooden frame of the bed. Something along the lines of “hhhhhhfuck” was all she managed to get out as unimaginable pain in her legs sent her sprawling on the pink monstrosity of a bedspread.

Dammit.

Elphaba had never been able to judge depth well without her glasses. Speaking of which…

A small falter in Glinda’s stance was all Elphaba needed. All Glinda managed to let out was a small, concerned “Elphie are yo-” before Elphaba had launched herself across the bed towards her.

Oh.

Oh.

She had misjudged again.

Elphaba felt her outstretched hand close around the wrist of the hand holding her glasses as she felt the rest of her body, none too gently, collide with Glinda’s. Their bodies were pushed flush against each other, both now kneeling on the bed meaning Elphaba’s eye level was only slightly above her shorter roommate’s. Elphaba could feel every curve of Glinda’s body against her own and she hated how intoxicating it was. Their faces were touching, lips brushing together ever, ever so gently.

Time froze. Exactly how long that moment lasted neither could ever know. All Elphaba could register was the soft, breathy whisper she heard escape Glinda and the delicate brush of pink lips against her own.

“Elphie…?”

Elphaba couldn’t move. She couldn’t handle it. Couldn’t comprehend it. Glinda. Here. Like this. Glinda who was surely about to pull away from her. Glinda who would never want to even look at her again now.

But she wasn’t. Glinda wasn’t pulling away. The hand that had held Elphaba’s glasses had dropped them onto the bedspread and was now running down Elphaba’s arm onto her collarbone. Her eyelids, dusted with the glitter that covered every surface of their shared room, had gently fluttered closed. She tilted her head ever so slightly.

And she was kissing Elphaba. So gently, so tenderly. Elphaba felt certain she would melt right then and there. Gradually, Elphaba’s mind caught up with her body and her hands went to Glinda’s waist and back as she kissed her back slightly more firmly.

It could have been 10 seconds or 5 minutes but all Elphaba knew was that Glinda slowly pulled away from her to reach down, pick up her glasses, carefully put them back on and cup Elphaba’s face gently. With sudden clarity Elphaba saw the detail of Glinda’s shining blue eyes smiling the delicate smile that was replicated on her lips. She saw the gentle blush across Glinda’s cheeks and the slight smudge of her usually impeccable lipstick.

“What are you looking at?”

The soft giggle brought Elphaba out of her trance.

“Well, um, now that I can see again, I’m, uhh, actually enjoying looking at quite a few different things.”

“mm yeah, like what?”

This time Elphaba wasn’t in shock. This time her movement was beautifully, tantalisingly slow and deliberate. Elphaba brought her hand to Glinda’s cheek and pulled her closer.

“Like the fact that you’re blushing”

And she kissed her again.
