The lotus is an emblem of summer and an auspicious Buddhist symbol. Signifying purity because the flower emerges from the mud unstained, Buddhist deities are often depicted sitting on lotus blossom thrones.

In a major win for privacy rights, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled Friday that police must obtain a search warrant in order to get access to cellphone location information.

Chief Justice Roberts wrote the 5-to-4 decision, joining the court’s four liberals. The majority declared that the Fourth Amendment guarantees an expectation of privacy and that allowing police to obtain moment-by-moment tracking of an individual’s cellphone location is a kind of surveillance that the framers of the Constitution did not want to occur without a search warrant.

As the other kids cry inconsolably on an audio recording of migrant children, 6-year-old Alison Jimena Valencia Madrid can be heard pleading for someone to call her aunt — reciting the number in Spanish.

Jimena is from El Salvador, and had just crossed into the U.S. before she was detained and separated from her mother.

“We just had Pride in L.A. last weekend and I was on this float just living my best Pride life, but I was kind of hidden on this float just kind of waving and popping out,” Queer Eye cast member Jonathan Van Ness said. 

“But then this boy on an intercom on the float started being like, “Jonathan Van Ness from Queer Eye.” And … people would literally point and start shaking and crying to a point where I was like, “Oh my God.” … This is how people were reacting to Meghan Markle.”

There’s an unprecedented surge in the number of displaced people, which has now reached 65.6 million worldwide.

But there’s one emerging category that seems to be getting short shrift in the conversation: so-called “climate refugees,” who currently lack any formal definition, recognition or protection under international law even as the scope of their predicament becomes more clear.
