Right off the bat, Ahsoka calls them by their proper titles in the movie.

Of course, her formality only lasts so long- irritated that Anakin won’t stop calling her a Youngling, she snaps back with the nickname “Skyguy”.

To which Anakin, annoyed, replies with two insults that will eventually become his nicknames for her as well.

 “Little one” and “Snips”. Their dynamic for the rest of the show has been set right off the bat.

Obi-Wan never gets a nickname like that. Instead, very early on in the first season, she calls him “Master Obi-Wan”, which sounds very young. 

Throughout the first three seasons, Ahsoka usually calls Anakin Master to his face, and Master Skywalker or sometimes, when she’s surprised or upset, just Anakin when referring to him in conversation to others. A good example of this is Jedi Crash.

The nickname Skyguy makes a few appearances through the first quarter of season one, but I don’t think it’s used again after Downfall of a Droid

(Interesting note- Anakin calls Ahsoka “Snips” right until she is expelled from the order. After she loses her Padawan braid, he never uses this name again.)

So anyway, status quo is maintained up until the end of Season 4. Around this time, Ahsoka starts switching between calling Anakin “Master” and his name. This first happens in the episode Brothers.

By the season 5 finale, (which is honestly the next time they properly interact lol) it’s happening more often.

However, when she rejects Anakin’s offer to come back as her Padawan, she still addresses him as Master.

And then, for the last time before walking away-

Now, the first time Ahsoka sees Anakin in what must be around six months, what does she say?

Old habits die hard. 

But then we get a very interesting conversation in which all social titles are disregarded. “You don’t have to call me Commander anymore,” she tells Rex (who promptly goes, “Sure thing…. Commander” lmao.) Ahsoka, who spent over two years calling Obi-Wan “Master Obi-Wan”, “Master Kenobi”, or just “Master”, now simply calls him Obi-Wan, perhaps to prove her point that she is no longer a Jedi who must call him otherwise.

And then, Anakin refers to Ahsoka as his “friend”. Their status quo has changed. Now, they are equals.

Their final dialogue to one another could not be more perfect.

(Notice- she no longer has a point to prove, and she’s reminiscing, so she’s reverted back to “Master Kenobi.)

One last reminder of the dynamic they used to have.

And then Ahsoka calls him by name

and uses his teachings.

And that’s it. Their chapter closes with a gentle reminder of who they used to be to one another, and who they could be to each other in the future, when this is all over.

Of course, as we know, what this really sets things up for is…..
