I know how people feel about long posts (I don't blame you), so long ass rant under the cut.
I'm probably gonna end up deleting this, but I wanted to get this off my chest. There are times I wish I stayed ignorant and not dive too deep into like a band or creator, that type of stuff. Then again, sometimes it's best not to be ignorant because it determines whether I should continue following or not. Honestly, I just refuse to "support" creators because you never know what kind of person(s) they are outside of whatever they do. There's been too many times where I've wasted money and time on creators who are pieces of shit.
I'm going to use this band that I've discovered around a few months ago and quit listening to within a couple of months as an example. I decided to look into this band a little closely, trying to figure out who the band members were and because one of the members had inspired me to make a new character for my spinoff series (I wish my brain would quit doing that). I found a Reddit page for them and decided to snoop. That's when I found a couple of posts that ended up putting me off and it set off my infamous gut feeling that I need to quit ignoring. Then, it's like the deeper I went, the more my asshole radar was going off.
I read that the singer had shoved, not one, but two women off the stage into an unprepared crowd at two different shows and might have injured one of them. He also apparently gaslit the one he might've injured instead of just stopping the show to ask if they were okay. I get that people shouldn't get on stage and linger if they want to crowd surf, but that doesn't mean putting hands on people and shoving them off the stage where you can potentially injure multiple people. Honestly, why does it seem like every show they do staff/security just doesn't exist?
Then, I found a short the band posted on YouTube and I notice within the next day it was deleted, but it basically said "Only Hot Girls Listen to [insert band name here]". Not gonna lie, it disgusted me a little and it made me feel like I'm not attractive enough to listen to the band since I already don't find myself attractive at all. It honestly made me shake my head and put me off even more. This band just doesn't care about their reputation it seems.
I also read a YouTube comment that I guess the band is rude to fans in the comments on their Instagram posts. Like, why are you guys being assholes to your fans? Do these people just not realize that fans are your biggest source of income? You would think they would actually try to build a solid reputation and try to gain a big following since fans are the ones feeding their damn pockets.
Now, I don't know if it's the whole band acting this way or just mainly the singer. The singer does give me major asshole/narcissistic vibes anyway with the way he has to be front and center and outshining the rest of the band. Literally all the music videos show mostly him with maybe showing the other members for a split second. I also noticed while seeing clips of their shows that he would cut across the other members, getting in front of them like he doesn't want them in the spotlight either. Now, I went to a Powerman 5000 concert and none of the singers from each band did this shit.
The singer would always do the talking during interviews, he even mentioned shoving a girl off the stage in one interview and still proceeds to gaslight them. Like, the poor drummer only gets a few words in during the two interviews I've watched. Honestly, I don't know why the drummer even quit doing his own independent work, he's actually quite good and has lots of potential. I truly dislike only wanting to follow the drummer and see where he goes and try not to give this narcissistic singer any attention. I don't know about the other two members because it's like the singer just doesn't give them a chance to talk much.
Now, I'm sure you're wondering how do I even know if this guy is a narcissist or not. Well, I've put up with a narcissist most of my life, so I've gotten pretty good at seeing the red flags, and I've seen plenty of videos of other bands and don't see this kind of behavior much. I mean, come on. The last four music videos are practically the same except it's in a different setting and it mostly shows the singer and only giving the other members a split second of screen time. There's no real creativity in those videos, like okay, I get that y'all can play your instruments, but is there an actual story? I bet a band with no budget can come up with something better than that.
Anyway, I'm going to get off my soapbox now. I guess the moral of the story is do your research and don't be ignorant when it comes to creators. Really, I'm just sick of social media anyway since it's just a manipulation tool and a stupid game that's not worth playing.
