Whisky Valuation

So as a fan of previous releases I have been looking forward to the 2017 selection from Springbank. As a collector and investor, among others, I was pleased to read this statement from Springbank themselves detailing the release and pricing expectations.

They are not wrong, the release of 9,000 bottles will move quickly. I have already missed my chance at a number of outlets but hopefully have one on the way too…

Top Tip for investors/collectors...

A friend of mine is hoping to sell a very collectable bottle of whisky. This would be an excellent investment opportunity as the price of Macallan is consistently soaring at auction these days.

For 2017 I decided to through down the gauntlet, I have uploaded a lot of my data to the database regardless of whether or not I had tidied it...

As ever the data is poor and I will be continuing the never ending task of cleaning and preparing extra data for the site. The data is pulled from a few auction sites, actually 5 in total from around Europe. This data is updated monthly and still DOES NOT INCLUDE COMMISSION or FEES.

Database Update

Over the past few months we at Whisky Valuation have work tirelessly to expand our dataset to provide an ever better automatic valuation tool for Whisky Enthusiasts. Today we took a huge step towards realising this by gathering data from a number of extra auction sitess, ultimately expanding our dataset to almost a quarter of a million whisky sales.

We, as always are working to tidy this data, match and display it on our website. The aim is to allow fast, free, easy and simple valuations for experts and newbies alike.

New Feature - Most Sales Page

We introduced a new simple page to our site today, this page displays the Top 25 Auction Sales in a simple table. It makes for an interesting read that I will no doubt be using for more blog posts (Ardbeg, perhaps as expected controls the top 10).

Hi again

I migrated our Site to a new host recently and finally have everything up and running as expected. This is much more resilient, interesting and hopefully more economical (bare in mind this a free service, we don't charge anything for valuations).

I have updated our database with the last few auction results, this increased our dataset to well over 100,000 sales and the final load covers a period up to June 2016. This includes around 4,000 new published prices and a few more published whisky to select.

I've been thinking about the site recently, if anyone has any comments or ideas to improve things please get Contact Us.

We have released another update to the site this morning. Changes are:

An extra 3500 lots to plot data from

An extra 5 distilleries to filter

An extra 200 whiskies to filter

We are still pushing forward with the site updates! Today we introduced:

Statistics page showing the Last 10 Searches made on the site.

Statistics page showing the Top 10 Searches made on the site.

Statistics page showing the Searches made by Distillery made on the site.

We have also made an effort to clean as much of the data as possible. This is progressing but unfortunately it is monotonous, tedious and to be honest down-right-dull. We will get there but please be patient and contact us if you would like anything whether it be a valuation, a whisky published or simply to chat about the nectar.

Over 190 new whiskies to search; including

Pretty much every Flora and Fauna whisky

A plethora of Aberlour A'Bunadh

A bunch of Macallan, including a great deal of the 18's!

Database performance enhancements

Just a quick post to detail a graph I find astonishing; Jim Murray declared the Yamazaki Sherry Cask from 2013 as the best whisky in the world in 2015. Well Yamazaki have annouced a 2016 release available from the 1st of February. Can we expect the same great things from this release...More information can be found here

As promised we have been preparing some new whiskies for the site. We have uploaded almost 30,000 new lots to our database, this brings the total to almost 100,000 sales at auction from the UK. The latest update covers the last 4 months of 2015 and is already live. We have now published a measly 14,000 data points on the site so as always contact us if you would like a valuation for a whisky we haven't published; chances are we have at least 1 sale within our database.

There are now over 260 whiskies from over 45 distilleries available. The range of information as always includes the sale date and sale price but we are not currently uploading images to the site. We do not offer any guarantee's as to the information gleaned from the data but hope it provides you with a useful insight as to the true value of a bottle of whisky.

Hi everyone - Happy New Year!

We are back online, we've had some time away but are currently updating our database with some auction results. We expect to add quite a number of auction's which will result in hundreds more results and numerous searchable whisky's. I'll post again when the update is live. I will add just now that we intend to skip the storing of images for the time being; time to find good quality images and server space is too precious. We intend to focus on uploading more data.

Finally a quick apology as we noticed the Contact Form on the website was not correctly forwarding emails to ourselves. If you have been trying to get in touch we apologise but it should now be working successfully.

Morltach Flora and Fauna

Big database update today, we cleansed a lot of data and introduced around 30 whiskies into our search tool. The cleansed data corrects spelling/titles and formats of existing searchable whiskies to increase the dataset (by over 1000 lots....). The new whiskies include a range of Macallan's, Flora and Fauna whiskies and a couple of Buffalo Trace as I know how popular those are right now.

In total our database now holds over 61,000 whisky sales with thousands of distinct whiskies included. We have increased our online search tool to include only 150 of these (each whisky requires us to manually confirm it's accuracy before publishing - we try to be quick but we just don't have the time to cover everything), those 150 whiskies are some of the most popular auction items covering in excess of 8000 sales over the past few years.

We have been considering expanding the site to allow users to register and login allowing yourselves to store searches as "collections" and to introduce a range of new functionality. If you have any thoughts or would like us to search our unpublished database (or to publish a specific whisky to the site) get in touch. We would love to hear from you.
