How Cosmere Characters Would Come Out
As requested by @im-bad-at-names-okay :)
Happy Pride Month! If Cosmere characters wanted to "come out," here is how they would do so.
1. Renarin: A series of unsigned letters
Lore drop: I came out via a letter to my parents when I was in high school.
Dalinar: The first note said, "Someone is gay." Dalinar: The second note said, "Someone you know." Dalinar: The third note said, "Someone in your family." Dalinar: The fourth note said, "One of your sons." Dalinar: ... Dalinar: I think I can predict what the fifth note will say.
2. Adolin: Tells people face-to-face
He just figures that telling people in person is the right thing to do.
Adolin: ...So anyway, I like men as well as women. May: Yes. I am aware. Adolin: Y-You are?? Did someone tell you?? May: You stare at a lot of butts. Adolin: ... Adolin: Yeah, okay, that makes sense.
3. Kaladin: The most dramatic moment possible
Think about every time Kaladin let someone know he was Radiant. Now apply that logic to Kaladin coming out.
Kaladin: [Glowing with stormlight, descending slowly from the sky] Kaladin: Romance. Sex. Gender. None of it--none of it--is compulsory, and none of it is for me! Lirin: You literally could have told us this normally at dinner last night. Hesina (elbowing him): Shhhh!
4. Wayne: Casually, conversationally
Wayne drops the lore as if it's no big deal, although he is admittedly a bit anxious the first time (when he tells Wax).
Wax: Listen, Wayne, if you want to be a good man... Wayne: Actually, I'm a girl today. Wax: [processing very quickly] Just today? Wayne: Well, we'll see, I guess. Sometimes it's just for a day. Sometimes it's a girl week. Wax: Noted. Wax: Listen, Wayne, if you want to be a good woman...
5. Rlain: Matter-of-factly
Rlain knows he has to make humans accept him as a person. Sometimes he tells them that he plays cards. Sometimes he tells them that he is gay.
Rlain: I'm Rlain. And this is my boyfriend, Renarin. The Alethi guy who was just talking shit about Singers: Uh... Rlain: Now you know something else about me. Rlain: Namely, I can pull.
6. Shallan: Eventually and with difficulty
Look, Shallan does not like to reveal lore about herself. Sometimes it takes being trapped in a cave in a high storm. Sometimes she makes her alters do it. It's a process.
Shallan (currently huddled with Kaladin in the little nook while the high storm rages outside) Shallan: ....A-And also, I think I have a crush on Jasnah! Shallan: Does that mean I like women??? Kaladin: Even worse, you might have bad taste in women! Shallan: What Kaladin: I shouldn't say my first thought.
7. Sazed: Makes Wax do it
This is always the Sazed-Harmony strategy.
Sazed: [communicating with Wax via his earring] Please tell everyone that my pronouns are now "they/them" so if they could stop using "he" for me, I'd appreciate it. Sazed: I know that there are other things going on, but it has been annoying me for hundreds of years now. Wax: ...You sent a kandra to command me to put in my earring for this...? Couldn't the kandra just do it...? Sazed: You try explaining pronouns to a kandra!
8. Vivenna: Just kinda assumed people knew
The short hair and the sword aren't enough??
Beard: Captain, we've been talking... Beard: And we've come up with a list of just three guys in all of Kholinar who we think MIGHT be worthy of going on a date with you! Vivenna: ...Try again, but with women. Beard: .... Beard: Oh! Vivenna (to herself): How much more obvious could I make it?
9. Jasnah: Writes a truly groundbreaking treatise
Jasnah is not going to bother coming out if it's not also scholarship.
Ethid: Your treatise on asexuality will truly have a lasting effect on scholarship. Jochi: I predict that the undertext referring to your own experiences will promote much speculation in future generations. Jasnah: Thank you, both. Jasnah: ...Glad that relationship was worth something.
10. Nikaro: Tells no one until they all figure it out for themselves
Nikaro can't shake the fear that everyone will leave if they know the truth, groundless as that fear may be.
Akane: Last week you had a boyfriend. Yumi: Correct. Akane: Today you have a girlfriend. Yumi: I do. Akane: Your girlfriend looks quite a bit like my old friend, Nikaro. Yumi: Fancy that. Akane: ... Akane: Congrats on the gender, Painter! Painter: ...It's that easy?
11. Dalinar: Unintentional lore drop
Dalinar is one of Those dads.
Dalinar: [comforting an adolescent Adolin] Dalinar: Adolin, do not be troubled by your crush on Jakamav. Dalinar: Every man has crushes on his male friends. Dalinar: It is very normal. .... Adolin (eight years later): WAIT A STORMING MINUTE
Happy Pride Month from Dalinar Kholin
*taps microphone* Steris Harms would have made an excellent Trapper on Patchi. Yes it's super dangerous but all the dangers can be anticipated and prepared for. She would thrive on Patchi. She would be best friends with Sixth of the Dusk even though most of their interactions would be just sitting quietly in roughly the same room. Sixth would be ecstatic that she comes with clear, written instructions on how to be her friend. They would say exactly three words to each other a year and have a connection so strong it makes a bondsmith feel inadequate.

what is stormlight archive about wrong answers only
Tinker Bell competes with a spirograph and a clown for the coveted title of Best Therapist. Meanwhile, a med school dropout smokes money and starts a workout club, a struggling artist takes an internship overseas so she can steal a bracelet, and an illiterate book blogger attempts to self-publish his dream journal.
OP said wrong answers only
@rohirric-hunter
It's an unprecedented deal for the author, whose 'Mistborn' series and 'The Stormlight Archive' are being eyed for film and television adapt
🚨🚨🚨
Rereading The Way Of Kings sucks because you’ll meet a silly little bridgeman named Pleeb and youll be like “woah I wonder why I don’t remember this guy hes so neat :))” and then two chapters later Pleeb is shot 57 times and then run over by a 2005 Toyota Prius
Kaladin and Shallan's times in the chasms were hilarious. Both knew they survived the fall thanks to Stormlight. Both knew the other shouldn't have survived without it. They should have saved the other, however did they do it. It's the only explanation. Probably. Maybe. They spent enough time disliking each other and bickering and not listening to what the other was saying that Kaladin completely missed Shallan talking to herself and magically amplifying her body and Shallan blissfully ignored Kaladin's screaming for Syl. They're both mysteriously fit and capable. Surely a lighteyed woman with a supposed desk job can routinely keep up with an experienced soldier powered by the forces of anime and god on his side. Whatever. Kaladin spilt that he knew the plains are symmetrical because... he had a dream about flying over them, like one does, apparently, and Shallan only cocked an eyebrow. They were so caught up in their own terrible cover-ups that the fact that the other was doing it even worse flew over their heads. Until they walked out and went, 'Hey—'

shallan and adolin's marriage just gets funnier the longer you think about it. shallan's family is on the verge of bankruptcy because she Murdered Her Father so she decides to Rob A Princess instead of just asking for help like a normal person. she's not sure if she should go through with the robbery until the princess, now her teacher, murders several people in front of her in a live action trolley problem. the robbery succeeds, because jasnah has been hiding magic powers from the world via fake jewellery for the past six years. however, the guilt and shallan's own magical powers, as well as her doomed romance with an assassin, disturb her so badly that she fakes a suicide attempt to avoid talking things out. she ultimately admits to robbing jasnah, who had no idea she'd been robbed, and nearly dies again at the hands of her assassin boyfriend. jasnah is wary of her, but ultimately decides she's not too dangerous, so it's only right to help out this poor idiot girl who she definitely does not care about what are you talking about. how to help her? firstly, fix the damn soulcaster. secondly, get her mother to arrange a betrothal between shallan and her cousin. why her cousin? because adolin has managed to piss off literally every single woman in alethkar, and shallan is so ignorant of red flags that she, as previously mentioned, fell for an assassin. the betrothal goes ahead, minus the stumbling block of jasnah seemingly being assassinated mid-journey. shallan ultimately makes it to the shattered plains. on her first date with adolin she asks him if he's ever shat himself in battle. true love.
Finished version of the Shallan sketch that I had done a while back.
The sketch was originally fanart at the time, but a few months later I was asked to do a finished version of it for Brotherwise Games.
women in stem!!!
people often call lirin a bad father for the way he treats kaladin, and i get it, if you had a shitty father growing up, he probably isn't the easiest to read about, but also, and i cannot stress this enough: lirin is traumatised. yes, in the everyone is traumatised series. specifically, he is traumatised by the deaths of his sons. yes, kaladin came back - but his little boy tien still died on the front lines, and kaladin was sold into slavery! his son was branded, sold into slavery, and turned into someone completely unrecognisable. lirin has very firmly entrenched morals - he is a pacifist, but he's also deeply defiant, so he resists oppression in the small ways that he can. he heals anyone he can, he stole from his lord to give his son a better life, he even helps venli and rlain resist the occupation of urithiru - if unwillingly. he grew up and lived through gavilar's conquest of alethkar. he's very used to and tired of seeing death. the specific incident that makes him yell at kaladin that he's a monster is kaladin killing multiple people in front of him! that's not reason to call your own son a monster, but it's entirely understandable that in the heat of the moment his frustration, anger, and, yes, trauma would boil over like that. he's a flawed man, but he is also a deeply good and kind and brave man.

YOU don't wanna live in Roshar. Not because of the fragile state most of the Kingdoms are. Or the very aggressive fauna. The weird flora. The extreme climate. The storms the size of mountains nor the constant wars between gods. The real issue is those dam spren telling the world how you really feel. Those fuckers call you out each time.
me when i'm trying to pass in Rosharan Texas and all the gayspren keep hanging around me
horneaters and fabrials?
do we ever see what the general Horneater attitude is about fabrials? building some characters for funsies in the Stormlight RPG and wondering if a Horneater artifabrian would be seen as like, a betrayal given their reverence towards spren or if they’re not super worked up about it. Can’t remember if it ever comes up in the books.
I think you could tell an interesting story where that's part of the tension the character is experiencing, and then as the plot between Navani and The Sibling starts to resolve and we see attempts at ethical fabrials, suddenly the character has found their niche, especially if they're Sighted!
yeah, I guess that’s what I’m wondering - is there a tension? I’d imagine there would be, but I can’t remember if we ever see a Horneater comment on fabrials or if I’m just extrapolating. I can make the character either way, I’m just wondering if the text supports one way or the other
