“No, I mean it,” Charles insists, lifting his helmet from the stand, but holding it awkwardly in his hands, maintaining eye contact. “If you were stuck, what would you do?”
Lewis places his hand on his shoulder lightly, squeezing once. “We can talk about this after the race, yes?”
There won’t be an after the race, Charles thinks bitterly, but he nods his head anyway. “Yeah,” he agrees, “after the race, sure.”

Ever wondered what your favorite drivers would be like in a late 1990s/ early 2000s rom-com setting, like a Lestappen Ten Things I Hate About You AU? How George, Alex, and Lando might fare in a 2019 rookies Star Wars AU? Maybe you always wanted to try writing a Sebchal Sabrina AU because Audrey Hepburn just screams Charles?
Then you’re in the right place, and the Movie AU Fest might just be the thing for you. 🎟
You can write about any pairing in a setting that can be considered a Movie AU, including book-to-screen adaptations, tv shows, anime...

The minimum length is a wordcount of 1500 words. There is no maximum length, so you can write anything from a oneshot to a multichapter.

What if I can't finish my story?
No fandom stuff is worth feeling stressed about. We encourage posting finished works, but we understand that real life can come in between. If you want to write a multichapter fic, and you have only the first chapter finished by the deadline (or if you would prefer to post your fic chapter by chapter rather than all at once), please let a mod know closer to the deadline, and we can figure it out together. xx
Is it only Modern F1 pairings, or also Classic F1?
You can choose pairings from Modern F1 or Classic F1. You are welcome to write about drivers, team principals, team members etc. We won't be allowing any stories that include WAGs as part of the main pairing.
Do I need an Ao3 account to participate?
Yes.
Do I need to archive-lock my fics?
No, but considering the recent RPF containment breaches we recommend archive locking your fics.
Can I use AI to write my fics?
No AI allowed.
Is there a Discord server I can join?
Yes. The Movie AU is a fest hosted by the F1 Playlist Fic Exchange Server, which was originally created for another event, the F1 Playlist Fic Exchange, that takes place every winter.
If you would like to participate in the Movie AU Fest, please feel free to join. (The link to the Discord is included below, underneath the link to the Collection on Ao3 for the fest.)
Please note that we would like for it to remain a place for community, of respect, and of love for the sport. Please respect that the server is strictly 18+. There are people from both Classic and Modern F1 who will be talking about different ships that you might not support yourself or are interested in. So, strictly no driver hate, or pairing hate, please.
What if I want to take part but don’t have an idea (yet)?
You are welcome to join our server anyways and just hang out, help brainstorm, or assist others in their writing process - who knows, maybe something comes to mind while doing that. The same is true if you don't plan on creating anything for the event at all but would like to cheer others on, meet fandom people who share your interest in f1 and its history, or perhaps you can imagine beta reading someone else's fic.

A blur of red comes running - lightning-fast, pushing through the throng, followed by at least three different cameras. He can feel his eyes growing large at the sight of a windswept Charles Leclerc, fresh race winner of the British GP, rushing to meet him, after he DNFed, no less.
"What?" he asks once more, but the word is forced to die on his tongue, as Charles' happy face comes into focus for the tiniest blink of an eye - the crinkles on the Monegasque's face so pronounced from a blinding smile, it makes the breath freeze inside Max's lungs.
None of it prepares him for the moment their lips meet, though.
