Some of the many Girl Leaders my NGO, Milaan Foundaion works with, transforming them into leaders in their rural communities over 2 years.
On May 20th it will be 9 months since I first stepped foot into unknown territory of moving abroad to a country the world often looks negatively at. The number 9 is significant. It has been a theme of this chapter and will continue to play significance.

I feel like I can't breathe
My days are spent in front of a desk, I’m on my last 425 days of working towards getting a piece of paper that says “I know something”. While I spend my days working towards becoming fluent in French, studying human rights/genocide or writing endless amount of papers, I don't feel satisfied. Questioning myself with "is this paper or accomplishment really going to help my overall happiness in life?" Even when I wasn't on some adventure somewhere in the world I felt free, free to be adventurous somewhere on the trails or hills of home. My parents, friends, strangers are proud, I started at University of Arizona, to community college to one of the best schools in the world, but I am not happy. I could careless about the quality of school. My parents are more obsessed with the actual schools than I am. I am their daughter, they are proud, but I am not proud of how much time I spend with my face in books. I feel sad more of the time than I feel happy, sometimes I feel like I do not know who I am right now. At night I dream I was on some grand adventure again but soon, soon again. Only 425 days till the adventure begins again. Please come sooner
