It's my 14 year anniversary on Tumblr 🥳

Hope my body doesn’t catch up with my mind doesn’t catch up with reality

and my extended intelligence blinds me in the darkness of a dingy basement

I can’t breathe 

and now I can barely see 

the little white bird from the blue world delivers my first message

A man with skin like mine is shot by police with 3 toddlers at his side

and a screaming woman

continues to scream

as if she might suddenly be heard

my stomach coils and squeezes 

vines and thorns around juicy flesh

imagery painting itself into my mind 

my brethren turn their faces

and my knees turn towards each other 

as I fall into myself 

looking for resolution

I couldn’t find an answer

not in a personal pizza

not in my family 

not a friend in sight 

my castle is a prison 

you helped me build

a wall

around

myself 

the sky fell 

and the oceans rise

no need to run

Slow Motion 2?

If you’ve been following my musical progression then you know it took me a long time to release my EP “Slow Motion”. I wrote so much material that started in so many different places stylistically, but somehow still all followed a theme that kept them together. In SM I found a subtle balance of tracks that worked together to be what it was meant to be. Of course I had a lot of songs left over like “Cherry Beach Dream” that didn’t make the cut. I’ve been writing since the release & have some more creations that speak to the other side of my slow motion period.

I wasn’t sure what to focus on after the release of my lengthy art project. I was trying to focus on writing better & bigger lyrics & instrumentation for Starfall, & I was longing to explore parts of me that I thought were going to waste. I recently started experimenting with a project my friend Dexter Forbes had started. We both had a Hard Rock/ metal background in music & felt a need to explore more than genres & prove ourselves outside of genres. We recorded a cover of “Harveston Lake” by Johnny Rain. It was really fun for both of us, but we are just having fun & in the beginning stages of the unknown.

Over the past year I’ve written more music, looked at songs I haven’t used, & tried envisioning what needed to happen next. I absolutely hate forcing art & inspiration, so I took my time & now I’m here with this tiny light that wants me to follow it.

It’s been a real minute or so & it’s just the right time to write a blog about that minute.

In 2015 I began writing songs that were very liberating & took to a new direction for me. I wasn’t sure what I was doing, but I knew I was feeling an overwhelming new feeling that drove me to write & make sounds. I had just experienced something super new & felt like there was a new light shining down on my life, though I was uncertain of the outcome. It all started with a song I called “11:11”. It took a folk/singer-songwriter direction & I loved that about it. It was very bouncy, but maintained a spooky vibe. I had no idea whether I was writing an album, songs for my band Starfall, or just a single, but I wanted to capture this new fine light that I had experienced, & that I did.

I had no idea I was about to write 30+ songs almost 2 years later. On December 1st 2016, I released my first official EP, “Slow Motion” under my own name.

I haven’t stopped writing since the release, but took a 2 week break just to reflect on this whole chapter of my life which didn’t really end. The best feeling was having all of these extra songs, & ideas that I had started. I have no idea where they will take me, but you will definitely be hearing more of me this year. I’ve been really toying with new sounds, pushing myself further in personal projects, & talking to a lot of talented musicians & friends that have inspired me & really opened my eyes to other possibilities. I’ve been feeling really excited to release new music, but haven’t decided how to deliver it yet. There’s so much more aggression & chill in the stuff that came after my EP. You gotta here it!

A Blessing from “The Curse”

With all of the pictures floating around social media it seems the secret is out. Starfall just finished shooting a brand new video for our latest release “The Curse”! At first I had mixed feelings about the song being revealed, but the response from everyone has been positive & our art is getting some attention!

This wasn’t my first time participating in a music video, but it was my first time writing the formula & working directly with someone to bring my vision to life. I had so much freedom & fun! Working with Michael Lewchyshyn of Direct Cut Productions was very liberating & it was a bonus that he was enthusiastic about working with us!

The song is about manifestation & how the mind is such a powerful thing. We all go through ups & downs in this life. I find that when we focus on something hard enough it almost becomes more real, but we have to be the change we want to see. I wrote the lyrics when I felt like my visions & dreams were starting to fade into 9-5 zombie world that is my life. Sometimes you fall into a trap of everyday routine & slowly begin to lose yourself in the lives around you. As much as I believe it’s important to give, you have to take care of yourself, & no one is going to tell you to do that. At the end of the day, the message is to stay focused even when everything around you is trying to take you down.

Releasing Vagabond Diaries left me with a clear mind to write from more of a current perspective instead of dwelling on things I suffered with for a long time. I believe in a future for some of these songs, but for now they’re right where they belong which is off of my chest.

Songs

I’ve been finishing up a song I started in the spring. It’s a very strong track & for the first time I’m not saying “ I hate you, why would you do that?”, but I’m saying “I don’t understand, but I want to. it’s worth it.” It’s really refreshing and liberating to be honest without hurting someone. 

I’ve been seeing a lot of articles on music & radio & how there is a lot more same sex positive content being shared. This is something I experimented with on Vagabond Diaries with the song “Sodom End Gomorrah”.I take it even further with some of my new tracks so that’s both liberating and terrifying.
