Seriously though Janus Sanders is everything to me. He's a satan metaphor. He's catholic. He was born out of shame and guilt. He cannot feel guilty. The loves so much. He's petty and hateful. Everything he says is sarcastic and witty. He has brief moments of sincerity so strong it physically hurts him. He's the embodiment of lies and deception. He dedicates time to calling out other people's lies.

He IS lies, so he lies on instinct, to the point that he has to physically strain himself to tell the truth. You can see him fighting his own nature in order to be sincere because, despite being the one who cares the most, he naturally hides that love under a layer of apathy and cartoonish evil. And yet Patton, the embodiment of morality and love, is able to see through that layer instantly and understand that his lifelong rival and mortal enemy is also deserving of love.

Janus learned at a very early age that his entire BEING (selfishness, self preservation, deceit, etc.) Is inherently sinful so instead he dedicated himself to hiding himself away to save the one person who matters to him. He holds back things that he thinks could hurt Thomas, including himself and the other dark sides, out of love for Thomas.

He loves Thomas so much that he sacrifices himself and others to keep him safe, only to learn ~30 years later that its okay. That hes allowed to exist. That hes NOT inherently sinful. That Patton, the embodiment of everything good and nice and holy, loves him for himself and sees something lovable inside of him that he didn't think existed. He spends so much time hurting himself for others that when he's told he's allowed to stop, he doesn't know what to do with himself. His walls of lies and deception are torn down and all that's left is a man who didn't know he was allowed to be happy.
