It's been two years since I've started playing around my beautiful Canon 6D. Though it costs a lot of money and that I bought it because it was great at video and pictures, I am not very qualified about the camera's updates and stuff. I don’t have a photographer background. Actually, I didn't even knew I could update my camera before a few minutes ago when I realized something was strange on my camera.

Well, don’t panic! It’s really easy to find out if your camera is up to date or not.

— You have to be on manual & picture mode

—Press “Menu”

— Go to the third little icon starting from right

— You will see “firmware version”

If the number is the same as on Canon’s website. You’re up to date! If not, follow those steps:

— Download latest version on Canon’s website

— On mac it will unzip by itself, on windows you’ll have to extract the content

— On a mac, open the .dmg file you will get

—(On both ; in theory) You will have a file .fir and a folder. The folder is here to guide you for the install.

— Format a SD card with your camera and then put the SD card into your computer

— Upload at the root folder of the SD card the .fir file.

— Put the card back into the camera

— Put your camera on “P” mode

— Turn it on

— Press “Menu”

— Go to the “firmware version” section and press “Set”

— The camera will ask you if you want to update. Press “Ok” and follow the instructions on the camera.

And basically that’s it!
