As we reach the end of Eid, I am grateful to have been able to celebrate a happy and healthy Ramadan with my family but I am utterly heartbroken for those who have suffered at the hands of war and terror over the last few weeks. From Baghdad, to Turkey, to Saudi Arabia, Muslim lives have been lost in the holy month, and loved ones have been grieving at a time that should be filled with peace. Those killed were probably fasting, seeking to better themselves and starving themselves of pride, arrogance and materialism. For their killers to use the name of Islam, a religion of light and love and forgiveness and tolerance has added salt to the wounds of their families. I am filled with sorrow but I have accepted that all we can do is pray, and so I will pray - for those who have died, for their families and friends for whom Ramadan will be tainted with the memories of their loved ones, and for their killers who I can only hope will see the error of their ways.

Be practical enough to put the day behind you once it’s over. Don’t mourn for hours you cannot retrieve.
