Transference and countertransference in Jungian Analysis
'...transference may be more tricky than simply reacting to others the way you reacted to your parent. Here are several possibilities (which I write on the board):
you perceive the other in the same way you perceived your parent when you were young (a straightforward form of transference)
you perceive the other as being the way you wished your parent could have been (the idealized parent)
you perceive the other as the child you were and you behave like your parent did
you perceive the other as the child you were and you behave like you wished your parent did'.
In this class exercise, students learn whether their emotional reactions to a good friend or lover might be based on transference.
Superhero Kits: I like taking kid’s favorite superheroes and exploring what it is about their story that they identify with so I can figure out a way to tie it into treatment. In the examples above, the Hulk uses his box to help manage his anger and regain control, and the Flash uses his to help him slow down and become more mindful.

I fill them with things like reminders of coping skills learned, sensory items, bubbles with deep breathing instruction, etc. etc.
Here are examples of Spiderman and Batman Progressive Muscle Relaxation and Mindfulness scripts (for TF-CBT), and it is easy to write your own for any hero to meet the child’s specific needs.

There are tons of ways to use superheroes in therapy. Lawrence Rubin is a good source if you would like to learn more about incorporating heroes into your practice.
Therapists can introduce the activity to the child and their caregivers to ensure that these are used in a healthy way (ex. not for avoidance).
