The Texas governor's order criminalizing gender-affirming health care typifies the viciousness of anti-transgender legislation being drafted in the United States. There is widespread agreement that the campaign against trans kids is only the beginning, that Republicans chose the children because they are the most vulnerable. After they ruin the kids, they will come for the adults. Republicans think that transgender adults are sabotaging the sacred binary by pretending to be the opposite gender. They think that transgender is a sophistication spread by pervy adults to defenseless kids. Like, no kid is ever naturally trans, and there is something inherently wrong with a kid questioning their gender. So if they can stop the kids from transitioning, then silence all the adults, they think there will be no more transgender people. They want to remove us from humanity. This is ridiculous, of course. Trans people will continue to be born into each generation, just as we always have been. It simply won't work. All it will do is hurt us, starting with the children. But it seems to me that this all plays into the larger plan to sunder the Union, form breakaway republics, and call a new Constitutional Convention to rewrite or replace the founding document of the USA. It does appear that anti-trans persecution is part of the general fascist jostling against science, good sense, compassion and solidarity. Anything could be the breaking point of the monopoly of violence, so they try anything and everything, no matter how absurd. This year, the campaign focuses on us... so what should we do? Leave the country during a plague year? Seek asylum at the border of another country? Stay and try to fight them legislatively? Raise an army of Cat Boys, and...? No? Well, my initiative is to encourage and enable networks of mutual aid and solidarity, while disseminating resources and information for families and individuals to work autonomously for their own survival, in the event that community is broken. Maybe you will do the same. i hope that all of us trans people stay in-country and resist this putrid neo-eugenics movement by any means necessary, but sometimes resistance means living to fight another day. And you cis folk, even if you never end up using any of the information in this zine to survive political or existential persecution: tornadoes, wildfires and hurricanes displace people all the time; the war in Ukraine proves that anybody, anywhere could suddenly have to leave the country; and rent is harder to make than ever, recently... so you might want to take notes... just in case.
