Since the last bird boys update, I’ve been getting back into Castle Swimmer. And now I’m on my like, billionth reread. I always love coming back to this series, seeing how much it has inspired me and moved me for around 7 years now.

Something I’ve recently noticed in the reread of the first season is the prevalence on jellyfish!

I really like that. Considering jellyfish are essentially immortal. The fact that they’re all around the sharks, a people cursed to die off till they’re eradicated… it feels like they’re being mocked in a way. They are being torn up and killed constantly and yet here’s these immortal little creatures floating around without a care in the world.

I just thought that was interesting, intentional or not!

Originally the addition of jellyfish was more of a world building kind of detail to give the sharks some form of organic light source inside of the dark cave they inhabit.

But I like that they have also serve as a thematic symbol in various ways especially when siren compares himself to a jellyfish to call himself useless.

For castle swimmer I rarely look at references because it takes a little more time so I just draw as fast as I can and accept that the poses aren’t gonna look the best lol.

If I’m struggling a lot though, sometimes it’s quicker for me to go look for a reference than to waste time redrawing something over and over again.

Hmm there are a lot! I like scenes that let me draw really funny expressions, I also like big important story moments or romantic scenes.

Though when I think about it, what I like most about those parts is the reaction they will receive from readers.

have you played the new tomodachi life? if so, do you have the cs/bird boy cast on your island?

I’m am extremely afraid to touch this game for fear of it becoming a hyperfixation that takes over my life 😂

Unfortunately he has a lot of chronic issues that will not get better. It’s just part of his life.
