Mid Michigan Nature

There are three waves of storms headed here today. I don’t think they all are headed directly for me but there are severe weather warnings out today. The first wave is due in about an hour and the birds are out scrambling for snacks right now.

Wave two of storms is due at noon to 2pm and the third is due at 8pm. This looks like a good day to cleaning up inside the garage. I could maybe do some pruning and trimming but my three barrels are already full and out by the road, waiting for pickup. Things are calm right now.

My Rose of Sharon bush is busting out with all kinds of flowers. I know some of you guys were waiting for these.

The pic below was taken at the edge of the garden behind the house. It is a lone Morning Glory flower, a fighter. 🤜

At one time my ex had planted these next to a climbing trellis she had. After the divorce she took the trellis and the flowers started spreading all over where I didn’t want them, like weeds.

It has been 4 years now and I thought I had dug up all those bastards a year and a half ago. This guy here had been playing possum for the last year and finally made an appearance.

I spotted a couple pretty ditch items on the way back and had to pull over and snap.

This one ☝️ is Purple Loosestrife and it is an invasive plant and many years you see it all over the place. This year I have hardly seen any of it. I love this color and had to pull over to look.

The next one was right next to the right of this.

This one ☝️ is Chicory and this one has many flowers on it. These were next to another corn field.

I am starting off slowly this morning because I am not sure what the hell was happening last night. My cranium has been stirred yesterday due to looking through several hundred photographs, looking for a couple specific pics. Oh memories 😑

My plans today include some cleaning and discarding out in the garage. I decided that while searching for a couple old work pics I couldn’t find. While my brain was fully awake, I remembered the name of that old song stuck in there from yesterday. It was I Remember (Walking in the sand) by The Shangri-Las. Now I can close that book. 😁

Last song I listened to: This one was driving me nuts because I listened to XM radio in my car on Hair Nation channel and heard a song I love yesterday. Part of the lyrics were stuck in my head last night as I was trying to sleep and I never could remember the name of the song. 😠

What am I watching: This minute I am watching old westerns with the sound off

Current obsession: Trying to rethink some of the cooking and meal planning so that I can make smaller portions so that I don’t have to eat a pot of stuff for four or five days. I eat a bit less now and it is challenging buying ingredients that will only make a two portion dish.

Currently reading: I just finished a Reader’s Digest, does that count?

Currently working on: I have been working on my garage door to repair a broken hinge and to get it to run smoother. One time it just barely caught the plastic handle of a small brush container as it was coming down and it had been acting cranky ever since.

Currently wearing: Just jeans and a t-shirt

Last internet search: While watching these old TV shows, many times I look up one person’s name to see other information on them and when/if they passed on.

Favorite flower: That is a tough one, I have so many here. I love the looks of my Rose of Sharon flowers when they start popping (soon).

These red winged blackbirds are hard to catch in the birdbath but I got another one.

Looking east, we are starting today at 53F degrees (12c) and it feels pretty nice outside. 😀 It is supposed to get warm today but not super hot.

I am thinking that we are looking at morning moisture haze out there instead of wildfire smoke because the AQI number right now is at 36, which is considered good. This soybean crop looks like it’s doing pretty good. We got more rain coming in a couple days. I give you a closer look in the next pic. 👇

Today will be sort of a rest day today. I must have tried to get too much done yesterday because my feet and ankles were protesting all night and I got little sleep. 😵‍💫

This 👆first picture is showing the Woodland Trail. A lady and her dog were walking ahead of me when we started but they were going at a much faster pace than I was. They were out of sight by the time I took this shot.

There were plenty of these 👆and they are called Fleabane. I have had a couple of more active days and it didn’t take long before my legs are asking ‘are we done yet’? 😂

Saw these 👆wild carrots on the way out. Around here they are called Queen Ann’s lace too. Said hello to another walker on the way out and was ignored.

Look at how clear the sky and the air is this morning. I have to get cracking real fast today because I have an early doctor’s appointment and the batteries on everything are going dead right now. 😵‍💫

Feel good and don’t expect any bad news this morning.

That red equipment in the center is a tiller. The yellow field area directly behind it is the stubble from a wheat crop that was harvested about 10 days ago. The tall green after that is another field full of corn. You can tell from here that it is very tall.

We had rain off and on all through the day yesterday and you can see the cloud cover moving out here. 🙄

The temperature is only at 54F degrees (12c) right now and the air is clear.

The corn crop next door has their leaves all flattened out now that cooler weather is here and they got a lot of water yesterday. We got so much in one cloudburst that corners were flooding as I was driving to get a few groceries.

I have a couple inside chores to finish today before moving to outside stuff.

I looked at various things in Google and am getting all sorts of odd guesses.

I did not walk out too far this morning, everything is still all wet. We had thunderstorms roll through during the night. They only woke me up once, so last night was not too bad.

I have more trimmings to get cut up so that they fit into the barrels for pickup next Monday. I won’t be rushing out there yet, the humidity is still at 86%. 😩 The wildfire smoke is increasing this morning too. 👎
