In today’s society, the first thing people ask you is whether:
1. You have a great career.
2. You have a wonderful relationship
3. You make a nice salary
4. You have degrees in big majors (I mean the big ones: medicine, engineering, law and others. Carpentry, library science & others are looked down by a lot. They call them useless degree, because they don’t pay well. And, no one ever cares to ask whether the skill owner is happy.)
Anyways, you are assigned respect according to these lists. You are either seen as a success or a failure.
It is almost as if there is an established manual of which everyone is judged by. When in reality, there is no such manual in life.
But, when a young adult’s approach to life is different from the above list, he or she is immediately judged.
It is no longer whether you are living the life you want, or achieving your own idea of success. And above all, being happy where you want to be.
No no no, it is about fitting into any one of the assigned categories. Just because everyone else do it.
And, society still wonders why divorce & suicide rates are high? Or, why a lot of people are extremely unhappy?
I mean how does society expect young adults to be happy when it is continually forcing down outdated expectations down their throats?
When you demand a different approach which allows a huge degree of flexibility to focus on other aspects of living- family, happiness & wellbeing, you are labeled “Entitled”.
It makes you wonder, “Entitled to what exactly? I mean does society pay our bills or work to put foods on our tables?”
With that said, better start doing the things you want in life. In the end, no one actually gives a damn. 1000 years from now, a majority of us will not be remembered.
And, that includes me too.
Therefore, create your own ideal happiness. Whether it is hiking across the mountains of the world or a simple happy farmer, be content in your noble goals in life!
