Pride month is first and foremost about celebrating love and acceptance. Whether it be platonic, romantic, familial, or something that does not fit into those categories whatsoever. It is never a straight path, with ups and downs and difficulties that, sometimes, are easiest to traverse hand in hand. I think Ninjago— despite its rough edges— is a perfect example of that. The things that the creators, the fans, and even the youngest generations are inspired to create from the franchise are diverse and beautiful. Cole himself has been an integral part of many queer kids ever since all that time ago in 2011, where he chose to be strong and be true to himself despite the odds, and finding the right people for him. I believe part of celebrating pride within a fandom is to uplift other’s voices and find joy in the differences. Thank you to everyone who helped make this graphic— and our zine— come to life and highlight a key part of what made it possible— Community.
