Can we know more about Jay transition? The full story of him feeling like a boy and how the group reacted to the change (or has he already transitioned and everyone found out in some comical way?)
Even when he didn't have a name for it, Jay always knew he was a boy. One day, he plucked up the courage and told his parents, but Ed and Edna were confused and didn't know what he meant. Since they're the most supportive people on the planet, though, they accepted him. Slowly they learned alongside Jay, and now they're incredibly proud of their son (Edna even made him a binder, it wasn't really functional but the intention was there. Jay keeps it as a precious memory).
Jay kept his identity hidden from the ninja until he finally told them after his true potential (since it was the whole "accept yourself" thing).
Cole accepted him immediately, he's still his best friend and will defend him no matter what. Zane, Kai and Nya were a bit confused but after an explanation they were supportive too (Everyone in that team is fruity). The talks about gender also opened their minds to explore their own, and eventually Zane identified as non-binary and Kai as genderfluid.
(When English is not your first language, it's hilarious to find out jaywalking is a crime so Jay's name is a pun)
Jay was really scared about telling Wu, but his sensei said he'd always known and the gis are made to be gender neutral. That way he doesn't need to have a binder (and can't use it as an excuse to get out of training. Jay is frustrated he didn't think of that excuse before).
Since Lloyd wasn't there, he didn't know for a while. The topic came up at some point in the later seasons and Lloyd was the most confused of all. It took a few conversations about lgbt but eventually he also understood and accepted Jay (and the others' identities).
Jay got top surgery between seasons 4 and 5... and then got sent to fight ghosts, yay.
With time, Jay got comfortable with his body and identity, and he started accepting more feminine stuff. He'll wear skirts and feminine clothing, and enjoys wearing make-up (He likes going shopping with Kai and Nya). Of course no one judges him for it.
The ninja and Jay himself also sometimes forget that he's trans, which leads to some fun conversations (and then Jay literally forgets in Dragons rising).
The ninja’s gender stuff is not public, so when Sora comes out as trans in Dragons rising, the others reassure her that they accept her and mention that Jay is also trans. Arin and Frak are shocked.
(Honestly I picked Jay out of vibes but I absolutely love any trans ninja headcanon. I mean, look at their names!)

Tw: mild body horror
Honestly this was so fun! I tried a few different things, like bug body part or extra stuff like a tail (that I didn’t keep).
I leaned more towards the centipede concept, with markings of where the transformation would have continued. I saw some nice interpretations making him more like a moth, but I didn’t like it for my design.
I still wanted to combine him with a more "positive" insect, so I chose a firefly (pretty fitting). The parts around his wrists and ankles can glow whenever he wants to, it's not that different from when he uses his powers (I've read that fireflies glow sometimes to show that they are not tasty, to attract certain prey, and for mating purposes. The first two fit with the Land of Monsters, and the last one gave me the fun idea of Kai glowing when he feels flustered).
My final design has the full body insect and the firefly characteristics. Also I hc that his mind is intact even if he looks like this.
...Unlike the last drawing which shows the full "bad ending" monster form. Fun fact: one of the mandibles is permanently outside the mouth, since that side if his face got deformed and torn.

Cole:
His gi is simple and practical, perfect for mobility.
He's barefoot to feel the Earth beneath his feet all the time and thus be more connected to his element.
His ghost scars remain on the spots where he was the most 'ghosty': his hands and legs.
The bracelets in his arms and ankles are inspired by Indian culture, my hc for his nationality.
Jay:
He has a more modern and agility-based outfit.
The gi has a lot of chaotic stuff and sharp edges, showing his unpredictable personality. The shoulder armor is inspired by his S1 gi.
Loves to carry accesories that remind him of his family.
My idea for elemental powers is that the user becomes more resistant to their element the more they learn to control it, until they can reach full immunity. So early on it was common for the ninja to get small wounds when they started, but Jay's lightning, even if weak, is the most likely to leave a scar. Kai or Lloyd also have scars but unlike his, they're not very noticeable.
Kai:
His gi is flamboyant and stands out, just like his personality. Like Jay, it has a lot of sharp edges.
The interior armor in his chest is inspired by his S1 gi.
Of course the diva has a boob window.
The jacket over his gi is called a jinbaori, a samurai surcoat (it was worn over their armor to protect themselves from rain and wind and to signal their clan, which is why I put their ninja symbols there). I hc Kai and Nya as half Japanese, so it's inspired by the culture. And they both wear one bc I wanted the siblings to have a matching piece (this is also why Kai has some small blue accents).
He got the tattoos to honor Nya's markings after she came back… though it was also an excuse to get some sick tattoos.
Nya:
Her gi is heavily inspired by Samurai armor, while also having flowy elements like the sleeves bc of her powers.
She wears a jinbaori matching with Kai.
The red accents are both another matching thing with her brother and a reference to her color palette in the first seasons.
…I may have gone overboard with the markings but they look so cool!
Zane:
His outfit is inspired by archery wear (bc I really liked the idea)
I know Zane likes to show off his heart and wear his gi open but I just had to protect it, it does have blue accents where it's supposed to be though.
The belt ending shaped like feather is a reference to the Falcon.
Lloyd:
He has the most "standard ninja" outfit, since he barely has anything outside his identity as the Green ninja.
The golden armor's scales are a reference to his dragon side.
The green band on his right arm has a knot that looks like a sprout, to symbolize his power of Life.
He has a rope accesory over his belt like Kai and Nya. I couldn’t resist giving the RGB siblings something too ^^
His scars are weird bc usually he's attacked with magic.
Pixal:
Made the base color of her armor a bit more purple to fit her color scheme, but not enough to be recognizable since she wants to keep her identity secret (she has a couple more purple accesories though).
Made the armor more like an actual samurai's rather than technological, but still kept the tech accents.
The red and gold are an homage to the original Samurai X color palette.
Her body is rounder, instead of sharp, despite being a robot bc Borg has this sleek and minimalistic style in his creations. Julien does prefer the sharper angles that's why Zane is more "square".
She doesn’t have boobs bc they'd just get in the way.

She trained and gained muscle through the show, but she also gained weight as a result. Women in general tend to have more body fat than men and it's completely normal. Moreover, when they are not flexed, muscles are soft too.
I wanted Nya to look strong but also have a rounder body type, so I did this :>
(I also hc her to be one of the physically stronger of the team alongside Cole and Zane)

This took me so long but I finally did it! Full body designs for the ninja (+ Pixal)!
To make them I broke down their canon outfits to see if there were any patterns in their style or the color palettes used. I drew inspiration from some fanart, especially this post by @asooffa , please check it out they're amazing (and they also inspired me to make the character sheets more interesting hehe).
(I do have other drawings about the detailed outfits and the design process, I'll post it in the future)
Some details:
Lloyd's Oni and Dragon form are not complete (I'll design those eventually). It's just to show how his general features change depending on what form he's taking.
Jay's bracelets were made by Cole and the other Nya. I meant them to be platonic but they can be seen as romantic too. The other charms represent the entire team obviously.
Between seasons 7 and 8, Kai tried to reconnect with his father and he finally learned how to properly blacksmith. From then on, all their weapons are made by him, which is why they have his signature.
I know I've only just done the main redesigns of the ninja, but I was still struggling with Nya's eye color! I've finally chosen to give her maroon eyes to complement the reds in her outfit, so this means Nya got Ray's eye color and Kai Maya's.

Hii! So that hc is a couple of years old and I don't really remember the full story I had for it ^^'
Moreover, I don't even have that hc all the time anymore. I'm trying concepts and stuff bc I still like the idea, as you can see here:
...but I'm not completely set on any one of them. So for now I just play around the design/idea, like a fluid hc.
The new story I have for how he got the scar is also somewhat flexible (I like the idea of playing around with it), but the basics of my current version are these:
It happened between seasons 7 and 8. The ninja are all divided searching for Wu, but after a couple of months with no results, they start to get desperate.
Some of the guys they fight notice how careless they've gotten because of that desperation, and with the advantage that they now usually work in pairs, they set a trap.
It's Kai and Zane who fall into the trap. There're too many enemies and they're both badly hurt. Just when one of the thugs is about to basically break Zane, Kai steps in to protect him, and gets hit in the face instead, getting his scar and losing his eye.
Zane panics but manages to escape with Kai and get him to the hospital. The ninja take the news of what happened somberly, and Kai spends a lot of the time of the timeskip learning to adapt with now limited vision. The ninja have also realized that it was their recklessness that allowed the bad guys to do this and so they start to be much more careful. Zane also reflects on what happened and is frustrated at his own uselessness when Kai was hurt, so he studies to become a doctor/medic to help his team whenever they are wounded (just like they repair him whenever he breaks).
That's basically it. There's a lot of angst potential to explore and also some opposite stuff because it’s still my fav ship of the show :>
I've seen a few takes on the eye-marriage obkk thing where the Uchiha tell Obito he must marry Kakashi. But really, the Uchiha and Konoha in general are set on maintaining a heteronormative society (tho it wouldn't be for long with Minato, Tsunade, Kakashi or Naruto as Hokage), which makes sense with the clan's focus on heirs and genetics, especially those with kekkei genkai.
So picture this: Obito, annoyed at the Uchiha pestering him about Kakashi's sharingan, escapes those conversations by basically breaking Fugaku's brain. Of course Obito is a dumbass and didn't check to see that he had indeed developed feelings for Kakashi and now has to actually try to convince Fugaku to let him marry him.
Minato always knew about Obito's plan but he also perfectly predicted that Obito would fall for Kakashi.
Kakashi meanwhile is blissfully unaware of all this.

It's pride month so that means lgbt content! (Tho most of my content is technically lgbt)
This time I bring you my Wyldfyre hcs: aroace and agender (any pronouns).
I just think it would be hilarious when the ninja explain the concepts of gender and sexuality to her and she’s like "Yeah, okay. I'm not doing that, nuh-uh".
However, I do like her ship with Roby (I'm still impressed by the writing). I've heard the excuse that "aroace people can date" and while I know it's true to some extent, I imagine their feelings and dynamics is completely different from allo people. If I ever do anything with Robyfyre I want to use it as an opportunity to explore how Wyldfyre's identity would affect their relationship. There's barely any representation, so I'm really curious about the experiences of aroace and aroallo people.
While I do love a bug Kai au (and I'm definetly planning to play around a bug Kai design myself), I very much prefer the canon take on it. The fact that Kai's determination to see his family again is strong enough to triumph over the darkness of the Land of Monsters is awesome!
This comic is a representation of that. Sure, Kai has a few new scars, and he’s adopted a few bad habits like inmsonia and paranoia, but the ears are something he can’t hide from anyone or "heal" from. It's physical proof that he went through all that. More importantly, it's also proof that, though the Land of Monsters changed him, it couldn’t defeat him! His love for his family was stronger than the cruelty of that place.
