the medical system is constructed as an incredibly complicated obstacle course that facilitates the social murder of anyone too disabled or poor or abandoned of social support to get through it

and then doctors have the audacity to talk about patients who are “trying to game the system” to get access to treatment. it’s like, yeah if the medical system is set up like a game that only awards healthcare to people who play it well enough, patients will try their best to win that game. what is their other option?

of course people are going to learn exactly what to say and how to perform to get the treatment they need. if there is no other way to survive than fawning and soothing doctors’ egos and listing off textbook descriptions of things in order while acting like they have no knowledge at all of their own body and no capacity to make decisions on their own —then people will do that. to survive.

if you want honesty then you have to prove that honesty will not get patients killed. this issue is not on patients. it’s the medical system that needs to change.
