A new report in The British Medical Journal provides more analysis that confirms: bike-sharing saves lives. For this study, titled "The health risks and benefits of cycling in urban environments compared with car use: health impact assessment study" by David Rojas-Rueda, Audrey de Nazelle, Marko Tainio, and Mark J. Nieuwenhuijsen, the authors surveyed 181,982 Bicing subscribers in Barcelona and found "[c]ompared with car users the estimated annual change in mortality of the Barcelona residents using Bicing (n=181,982) was 0.03 deaths from road traffic incidents and 0.13 deaths from air pollution.

If you asked my wife, she'd tell you I put wireless access as a higher priority above practically any other essential element key to life, with the possible exception of Diet Coke. The need for always-on anywhere Internet access, essentially, a key to connecting you to the rest of the world at all times from any location, is so strong that as bleeding-edge humans, we've come to expect ubiquitous wireless access on all our devices. In my efforts to add the words "wireless savvy" to my network admin resume, I've been reading books and web pages on radio propagation, antenna theory and design, and building wireless networks with 802.11 (WiFi). One of the first things that got me excited was the Pringles Can Antenna.  Published on the internet and in a fine book by Rob Flickenger, the net admin for O'Reilly, this design for a do-it-yourself, VERY inexpensive antenna made from a recycled junkfood container is as cool as the other side of the pillow.  It seems that everyone is building and using these.  The various community wireless network groups all talk about them and folks are reporting that they do the job.

I’m always so glad to be in a European airport which offers free wifi. I aim to be at the airport two hours before my departure, after a couple of incidents where I almost missed my flight a few years back. This means that I usually have a fair amount of time to do some work online at the airport. I can get connected in UK airports as I have an 02 mobile broadband contract which also gives gives me free unlimited access to BT OpenZone WiFi. However I’ve noticed some very high prices for WiFi in many European airports.

The Free Wifi Wiki is an online global directory of free public wireless hotspots - youth hostels, libraries, cafe, coffee shops, bars, restaurants, hotel lobbies, casinos, office buildings, bus stops, cyber cafes, highway rest stops, fast food chains, airports and any other random public place with wireless internet access. Sign up for an account with WeCloud by submitting your basic information, address and Wi-Fi connection details. Remember that other members can only access this information upon your approval.

Step 2:

Find Wi-fi Hotspots

Use our search engine to find Wi-Fi hotspots provided by other members in the areas that you require.  To access these hotspots, simply send a request to the user to obtain his or her details.

Step 3:

Start Surfing!

Once you are connected, please exercise common sense, responsibility and self-policing to ensure the safety of your personal data.
