I love the forehead scene, the handholding scene, the kissing on the track and in the hallway scenes.
But the scene that started Cazzie's love for each other is the pillow fort scene. When Izzie is at the end of her rope, in pain and trying to deal with abuse from her mother and stepdad, it is Casey she comes to. And Casey knows exactly what to do, it just comes so easily to her to be there and give Izzie what she needs. A distraction, an escape, an ease and comfort right after a traumatic experience. Casey gives her a friend, someone to cuddle and giggle with and just kind of be a kid. Their dynamic is so wholesome. And here they say "you're my favorite person" to each other. That one queer experience that sets so many of our worlds' alight. Finding your person regardless of the societal expectations. Having a sleepover with a confession that changes everything. And then Casey says to Izzie "We can get old here." An invitation to live in the pillow fort, this world of their own with just comfort and their favorite person, no boys, no moms, no siblings. Just Casey and Izzie tucked in together reading scary stories and laughing the night away.
