Gilmore Girls is SO GOOD and it treats women as complex people with entire lives and universes inside of them and it makes sure that you understand that all of them find value in different things and how mothers and daughters can be so different and what it's like when you're a kid who doesn't feel like your parents like you but it also shows how hard it is to actually break generational habits and how we can't force people to change but in our best moments we can laugh about the things that other times frustrate us and just understand our mothers and grandmothers and daughters as people who are going to make mistakes but who are also sincerely sorry and it's about love and communities and what life could be like if our town gathered every week and had a diner with really good burgers
rewatching gilmore girls and i forgot how dirty they do luke in the later seasons/spinoff. like they make him into a dumb, bumbling, conservative townie(derogatorily) guy when he's so not. early seasons luke is so fundamentally anti-big business, anti-technology, and anti-consumerism, he's ranting about how bad golf courses are for the environment in season 1 and telling jess to be thankful he's not a native american who got his land stolen in exchange for smallpox in season 3.
in my heart, in the secret version of gilmore girls that didn't fall off after season 3, luke doesn't just become an idiot for no reason
he's not a "going to protests" type of guy BUT he's packing lunch for his step daughter so she eats/drinks something other than coffee while she's out in the sun.
he has posters in the window of the diner saying "no ones illegal on stolen land" and "the wrong ice is melting."
he stands on taylor's front porch with a baseball bat until he agrees to signs a ban on ai datacenters around stars hollow.
rip activist!luke you live on in our hearts
This is my new favorite tumblr post. He would LOATHE ai data centers. He would start fights about people sending him ai crap.
Until death, all defeat is psychological.
You can make a movie with where the only white character is a man named Ray Cism whose one line of his 16 seconds of screen time is “I seriously hate women and minorities.” and you’ll find fifty bajillion reader x Ray Cism fanfics and renaissance style drawings of him with a halo of golden light

it bothers me when someone brings up misogyny in shounen anime and people shrug it off with "its designed for teenage boys, what can you expect." like well. idk i think its actually pretty important that shows for teenage boys are normal about women. i mean i think all media should be normal about women but teenagers are impressionable i think we could put a little bit of feminism in the teenage boy shows. it might do some good. you never know.
These days, lots of public libraries have a "library of things" collection where you can check out kitchen appliances or yard tools or toys, and, as a children's library assistant, the most popular library of things item that I handle regularly is a plastic scepter thingy called like "unicorn princess magic wand". And whenever I check it out I make a big show of looking at the little kid and being like "do you solemnly swear to use your unicorn princess magic powers only for good and never for evil?"
And pretty much without fail, the little kid will get the world's most mischievous grin and go "I'm gonna use it for EVIL!!!"
Do the kids these days know that the traditional payment for "having your friends help you move" is "order everyone pizza after"?
Feed your friends. Feed your loved ones. Feed the people who help you. Feed your neighbors. Feed your community.
Seriously though, with a lot of people, especially friends, you can shamelessly and blatantly trade pizza / food for help and labor <3

My spouse and I were talking last night and the jeans problem came up so I want to talk about it with tumblr here.
The jeans problem was the favorite lecture one of my philosophy professors in college gave about the history of jeans and how it ties into capitalism/mainstream culture absorbing and monetizing any counterculture it encounters. So prior to the 1950s jeans were mostly an item of work-wear that you wore on the job as a farmer or factory worker or miner because they were cheap, durable, and hard-wearing. If you were off the job you'd wear what we'd call now dress pants or slacks. This changes in the 1950s when youth culture start wearing jeans as regular clothing, again because they're cheap, durable, and hard-wearing. But then jeans get absorbed by the culture and we start getting designer jeans, acid-washed jeans, pre-ripped jeans, and now we got people shelling out hundreds of dollars for "povertycore" aesthetic. And now jeans aren't even cheap, durable, and hard-wearing.
This came up because my spouse was talking about thrifting and spooky things (two of her favorite things) and how there was this trend of buying a landscape painting from a thrift store which was probably going to end up in a garbage dump and painting a sheet ghost on it to make it art millennials would like. But now you can go to Michael's or Home Goods or wherever and just buy a landscape painting with a sheet ghost on it, mass-manufactured by a corporation. The counter-culture once again being monetized and absorbed by the culture. It's the jeans problem again.
The reason your snacks are unsatisfying is that you need both carb and protein.
Carb starts your engine, protein keeps it going.
No carb, engine don’t start. No protein, engine dies out fast.
Easy carb add on:
Cookie
Fruit (canned or fresh)
Chips
Piece of bread
Popcorn
Crackers
Easy protein add on:
Nuts
Spoonful of nut butter
Cheese
Roasted chickpea snacks
Glass of milk (dairy or non dairy)
Small canned sausages or similar
Sugar in there.
I am pleased by people messaging me telling me that after adding a carb or protein to their snacks or meals they feel more satisfied all day. Yes, my plan is working. People are getting through their days with less hangry.
MISSION : RESCUE CHANCELLOR PALPATINE.
Revenge of the Sith + Novelization Text.
“—the message from the younglings is the same: Don’t worry. It’ll be all right. Anakin and Obi-Wan will be there any minute. They say this as though these names can conjure miracles. Anakin and Obi-Wan. Kenobi and Skywalker. From the beginning of the Clone Wars, the phrase Kenobi and Skywalker has become a single word. [...] A pair of starfighters. Jedi starfighters. Only two. Two is enough. Two is enough because the adults are wrong, and their younglings are right. Though this is the end of the age of heroes, it has saved its best for last.” - Star Wars Episode III - Revenge of the Sith Novelization written by Matthew Stover
Being obsessed w Star Wars and specifically the RotS novelization is crazy because like to me it’s a Greek tragedy. It’s a Shakespeare play. It’s about generational trauma. The main character is a viscerally portrayed victim of grooming. It’s about the love that couldn’t save anyone and the love that saved everyone. And then you close the book and remember jazz is called jizz
