Warriors Rewrite

So, before you go doing this and especially before you start posting anything, make sure to read the policy about this on the official Warriors website FAQ. As much as I'd love to see my rewrite animated, I also don't want to inadvertantly get anyone in trouble.

“Fireheart!” Graystripe exclaimed, practically barrelling into Fireheart’s side as soon as the ceremony was over. “Fireheart!”

The exiled cats ran into the clearing with a loud battle cry, all heading straight for Firepaw and Bluestar.

Firepaw looked up to see the fullmoon had been completely covered by large, dark clouds.

As Firepaw explained his plan, he saw understanding grow in Graystripe’s face. Once he was done, he asked, “So, will you help me?”

The next training session he had with Tigerclaw started off awkward, to say the least. Firepaw wasn’t sure if he should bring up Cloudkit, or even how to. But as they practiced, it became clear with every half-hearted swipe he gave Tigerclaw that he was going to have to at least try.

“What?” was all Firepaw could say.

The easy feeling started to fade the closer they got to camp. It vanished completely after they pushed into the clearing and the weight of the atmosphere brought them both down to the ground, reminding them of why they were out in the first place. Catnip firmly in his mouth, Firepaw followed Graystripe to the healer’s den.

Firepaw didn’t remember falling asleep that night. The last thing he remembered was staring at the halfmoon shining dully behind some thin clouds, thinking about how tonight was supposed to be the meeting between Clan healers. The next thing he knew, it was just about dawn, and a thin layer of frost covered the ground.

Willowpelt stood, followed closely by Redtail and Frostfur. “Bluestar’s in her den,” she started, “but–”

As Firepaw raced through the wet forest, his mind was oddly blank. He leapt over a large tree root, and a couple strides later, he reached the same treeline he was at just that afternoon.

The fog eventually lifted overnight, only to come back down as cold rain. Firepaw woke up still exhausted; he had not slept well at all, not only because of the drastic drop in temperature, but also because thoughts of Graystripe sneaking outside of camp wouldn’t stop pestering him.

Arriving back to camp with a still soaking-wet Graystripe, a missing kit, and just one scrawny mouse went about as well as Firepaw expected.

It wasn’t until they were out of camp and walking side-by-side that it really hit Firepaw that this was the first time in a long time that the two of them had been alone together. He felt his pelt grow hot as the heavy silence between them went on. 

It was almost laughably easy to sneak to the hidden hole in the camp wall. Runningfoot was the one who was on guard that night, and he was obviously having trouble keeping his eyes open. Firepaw might have even been able to openly walk in the clearing and still remain undetected. He figured that this was the best case scenario for Raventhroat’s first sneakout.
