This was inspired by THIS ask I got about Tiger and his dynamic's, which I'll make more of later
And a little writting to acompany the art under the read more
The moss was starting to grow back, snow melting and allowing the new herbs and plants to finally reclaim the soil of new leaf, Tigerclaw didn't enjoy this step in the changing of Leaf-Bare to Newleaf, mostly because it made walking uncomfortable, with the wet snow clinging to his paws and fur.
It gave him an excuse to stay in his den when the storages were full, which he appreciated, the other excuse was the nursery duties that he'd rather perform instead of the apprentices, just to walk between his den and a cozier one.
Right now, there were only two cats sharing the nursery, Frostfur was sleeping the furthest away, her tail curled around her as she sleeped peacefully, 'Any day now' he reminded himself, he was getting the storages ready and extra moss to welcome the new clan members, he chuckles a bit under his breath, Lionheart would stand pacing around camp whenever not on patrol.
His eyes landed on the second shape, the golden molly whose fluffy tail was twitching up and down, Goldenflower had been the only queen through Leaf Bare, and her only company before Frostfur was the tiny kit currently entertained with her tail. Her eyes shifted away from the kit for a moment and gave him a purr in greeting, which he returned, pacing around her landed him right on the kit's field of vision.
"Tiger! Tiger!" the black and white tom used his mother's tail as support, staring at the larger tabby with glee "Can we play? Can we please?"
He sighed in faked dissapoitment, dropping the moss by Goldenflower's bed and shaking his head "It's sunset Swiftkit, how about tomorrow?"
The promise is enough to stop any dissapointment from the kit, who just exclaims "At dawn! Okay!" and curls around his mother's belly, knowing sleep just makes the sun come faster.
Tigerfoot smiles, staring at the small cat while he sits down, before his gaze returns back to the mother.
"...Stop smirking like that"
Goldenflower chuckles and shakes her head "You know, I think you'd be an excellent father Tigerfoot"
"Ha! Imagine a kit with my face" his ear flicks "I bring you moss and that's how you repay me? Mockery? Shame Golden, I thought better of you"
"If you claim to be friend you should expect this from me"
Her gaze returned to the small kit, now snowing peacefully and pawing the air, dreams already claiming his eyes, Tigerfoot caught however, the worried expression in her eyes.
"Mouse for your thoughts?" He asks, lying beside her in comfort while staring at the kit as well. Goldenflower hummed, licking Swiftkit's head gently.
"He's so... small"
The words echoed back to her first time seeing Swiftkit, and his sister before she passed, they had been so lucky Tigerfoot recalls, an especially harsh storm, he spent the night protectively standing guard by the nursery entrance, afraid anything would lurk inside and take the kits... It took one.
"...He's smaller than the average" two moons old, the kit didn't look more than one.
Some nights, he thinks of his apprentice days, some days, he's afraid whenever the kit rushes to him and plays with his tail or jumps on his back, it terrifies him.
"He takes it after his father"
Goldenflower had never confided in Tigerfoot who Swiftkit's father might be, while the whispers and gossips from the clan was Patchpelt (and the now elder had never disputed those claims), he was unsure, now, the fear at night is present, the ghost of someone guarding the fragile kit resting by his friend's belly is less paranoia, an active protector, a scourge from his past.
He should seek the cat, the black shape, but tomorrow he promised Swiftkit he would play with him at dawn, and tonight he wants to guard the den, to make sure the last of Leaf Bare's winds do not take the only kit as well.

more from the hollycinder partners in crime au, their little family ( original concept/au idea by @the-owl-tree )! i imagine dovewing got cinderheartβs build with hollyleafβs striking features while ivypool is leaning more towards hollyleafβs tall stature but cinderheartβs recognizable markings.
hollyβs disappearance into the tunnels after upending the entire normalcy of thunderclan had left quite a stir in her wake. ivy and dove grow up trying to make sense of and deal with her legacy in their own ways. cinder is in the middle, fiercely protecting her daughtersβ youth from a world which wants to press the weight of everything on their shoulders far too readily while also struggling to figure out her own identity.
very detailed brainrot under the cut
it seemed like an ironic twist of fate in the eyes of lionblaze and jayfeather that dove was to take hollyβs part in the prophecy, quickly sweeping her under their wing and closely guiding her paws. the lingering worry that she would stray from them and onto a dangerous path as holly had- doubly so since lion was made doveβs mentor. lion is fiercely protective of dove, seeing in her a bright potential and genuinely wants her to succeed. however it is quite clear to everyone that heβs projecting his sister onto her, for all her talent and resourcefulness going beyond the shadowy pelt and leading to heightened expectations. dove swallows down her discomfort at the pressure, wanting to make everyone proud and live up to their expectations, not only as warrior but as part of a prophecy so much larger than herself. one that she feels is partially to blame for driving her other parent away, as jay eventually reveals to her to full truth, leading to feelings of guilt she doesnβt even particularly understand. torn between stars and shadows, her paws wander over clan borders in search of an answer or escape for herself while discovering things sheβd never expect.
meanwhile ivy feels like a spectator in her own life. listening in on near constant rumors and gossip about her family that she isnβt even included in, instigated by a cat she doesnβt even know. getting even further frustrated by just how passively helpless to remedy anything she is. while cinder treats the two girls completely equally, ivy isnβt blind to the practically palpable anticipation thunderclan holds towards dove. sheβs a prodigy, with the undivided attention of both the clanβs healers and one if not the strongest warrior as a mentor, sent on journeys and given extra assignments as cats discuss how promising she is- yet also the level of suspicion cats hold towards her for being related to both a traitor, a healer, and a windclanner. ivy is of course of the exact same blood, yet she might as well not exist to anyone but dove and cinder bar a few extended family members. feeling isolated yet reluctant to try and burden her already troubled closest kin with insecurities she feels are βinsignificantβ, ivy meets hawkfrost who seems to not mind listening. in fact he says he relates to her, having a controversial family history himself. ivy asks for advice, ending up gaining confidence with his helpful suggestions and in turn drawing closer to the dark forest. she seems more well adjusted, yet in truth sheβs merely getting better at lying and giving cats a spectacle to notice her by. while her social life improves, the unease in her grows as sheβs gradually lured into working for the dark forest. ivy with new confidence and supposedly trustworthy new friends feels as if she can balance the danger despite rising escalation.
cinder, ivy, and dove remain extremely close. there is certainly friction between ivy and dove, however cinder is incredibly involved in their lives. refusing to let them lash out at each other and drift apart, sheβs reminded all too painfully of her bitter last interaction with holly. she regrets how they ended, strangely enough considering how she didnβt regret dirtying her paws with blood to cover up hollyβs sins. what she will not tolerate however is disrespect against her kits, growing estranged from her childhood friends jay and lion upon seeing how oddly they treat dove. itβs an uncomfortable situation, yet dove and ivy both are incredibly grateful to always have cinder in their corner. just for her theyβll set their reservations towards each other aside to form an at least temporarily stable truce. that being said, cinderheart being a reincarnation of cinderpelt actually has relevance to her character here that can be a whole other post on its own so i wonβt go into it.
holly is more washed than a rack full of clean dishes icl. fleeing into the tunnels was a temporary solution, made at the peak of her mental crisis she initially tries to ignore how horrifically she treated so many cats. pushing it aside, and trying to restart herself. yet she can never forget cinder, even when she leaves the tunnels to become a wanderer cinderβs loyalty always sticks out so clearly. the kindness that holly had pushed and pushed and pushed until it broke and now here they were after that blow-out argument upon the gatheringβs aftermath. a lot can be said for the time sheβs out living as a rouge, but she eventually will have to come back and face her horrible past mistakes. unfortunately not before meeting a cat who might change everything for the worse- darktail C:
thereβs some more i could mention because the cinderholly brainrot is infectious but i already rambled enough sorry TY IF U ACTUALLY READ THIS LOL UH </3 reward for making it down here is the fullbodies of these very normal not tortured individuals i consider them an equally normal amount
For context, this is an AU where Hollyleaf (renamed to Hollybreeze) grows up in WindClan with Breezepelt instead of her two other littermate Lionblaze and Jayfeather. Breezepelt and Hollyebreeze grow up to be very close and theyβre basically each otherβs rocks through their parents turbulent relationship <3 not a ship ofc
Have a comic about my previous PO3 kittypet AU where Potato (Lionpaw), after he joins Thunderclan alongisde his siblings, decides to become a medicine cat after experiencing the killing-heatherpaw-nightmares.
After what happened in the mountains (him unlocking his powers and going ballistic on the invading cats), he fears he won't be able to control his powers and he might hurt someone he loves, so in order to counter that, he decides to change path !
Also in this AU, Jaypaw is a warrior apprentice and he learns to fight in tandem with Hollypaw !

broken code au idea: long before TBC, following the collapse of the tunnels, hollyleaf simply vanished without a trace, many believing she died. She never showed up in starclan, and her brothers assumed she had been sent to the dark forest for murdering ashfur. However, when the broken code happens, Rootspring and Bristlefrost learn from the sisters of an odd old she-cat they met on their travels, very far away. as dark as the blackest shadow, as cunning as a fox, quiet, intimidating, and reclusive, jayfeather and lionblaze would recognize a description of their sister anywhere. Rootspring, Bristlefrost, and Shadowsight then must travel to find this mysterious cat because they've learned the identity of the impostor and based on the stories cats in thunderclan have told, know there's only one cat capable of outwitting him.
However, they find that timeand age has tempered hollyleaf's anger. Now going by just Holly, she has become set in her life as a loner, reluctant to come out of hiding, not wanting to go back to the clans. she doesn't know how others will think of her, and she doesn't want to kill again because she would see it as walking back all her progress. but she also still loves her brothers, her mothers, and does want to see them again.. and wants to do good for the cats around the lake.
maybe in this au she ends up drowning to kill ashfur instead of bristle. Tho i do really like bristle's death π§ also there is definietly angst from hollyleaf finding out that leafpool died years ago and they never got to make amends...
occasionally i think about the au my friend and i collaborated on in middle school wherein daisy gets the idea to, in front of a gathering, announce that she wishes to start dayclan. it's place between thundrclan and windclan territory where queens who need some free time from their kits can drop them off at the camp for however long and daisy + some other cats who are designated to take care of them will keep the kits there.
elders or cats retired due to injury/disability can also come hang out there, entertain the kits and whatnot
it would also solve the issue of medicine cats not being able to have kits, since if things get too hectic they can take their kits there
its also a safe place to bring kittens, elders, & unexperienced apprentices during an emergency
my friend and i were going to make a comic- they drew it and i colored it- but we lost steam after the first page or so. i miiiight still have that page somewhere but i'm not sure, they might've been the one who ended up with it (we've had a falling out and i moved since then, so i'm probably never going to see it again let's be honest)
Tigerclaw and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Senior Warrior Position AU
In a world where deputies can only be named after their first apprentice has been granted their warrior name, Tigerclaw struggles to keep an apprentice alive long enough to earn their name.
or, a comedy-tragedy AU in which having an apprentice isn't enough β you have to see them to their warrior name, and Tigerclaw cannot fucking get any of his goddamn apprentices to live, damn it.
β
It starts out mostly normally, except for the fact that Tigerclaw hasn't gotten any apprentices to their warrior name, and he needs that so he can accomplish his (very noble, of course) kitty genocide goals. And also be the supreme leader of the world or something. Darkpaw died stupidly, he hasn't had a chance since, and now he's got some tiny thing that's afraid of his own shadow.
Well. It'll have to do.
So naturally this man is so protective over Ravenpaw that Ravenpaw barely even leaves his sight. Firepaw and Graypaw think that this is adorable. Look how much Tigerclaw cares about his apprentice!!
Ravenpaw, of course, is fucking terrified and also slowly losing his mind, just in a different way.
β
"Redtail assigned us to go on a patrol to Snakerocks."
"OH NO HE DID NOT. WE'RE STAYING IN THE SANDY HOLLOW WHERE IT'S SAFE."
"Nothing matters more to me than making you a warrior, Ravenpaw. Nothing."
And the terrible thing is that Ravenpaw is sure he's being sincere.
β
Ravenpaw disappears and Tigerclaw nearly fucking has a conniption because the timing was all RIGHT and he was going to finally get the position AND HE NEVER GOT HIS DAMN NAME FUCK.
"Do you think I could convince the elders that Fireheart was my apprentice?"
"Fireheart was Bluestar's apprentice, as approved by StarClan. You're going to have to wait for the next litter to be apprenticed."
So he begs and begs and gets Cinderpaw and then she accidentally falls into the trap he'd set for a better deputy candidate at the Thunderpath. Fuck.
β
Well. Time to resort to drastic measures.
"I was thinking that Darkstripe would have been a good name. Because he had dark stripes."
"Again, Tigerclaw, it's admirable that you loved your apprentice so much, but I cannot grant him a name."
"Are you sure?"
"Honestly, Tigerclaw, I'm not sure he ever would have gotten a name. Missing quite a few feathers from his nest, that one..."
Fuck.
The worst part was that she wasn't even wrong.
β
Swiftpaw and Brightpaw get mauled by the dogs he set up to happen like right after he got the title and they sprang it before and he's like FUCK NOW WHAT DO I DO WITH THESE DAMN DOGS?
His world domination plans literally never come to fruition because he cannot keep his apprentices alive/in the clan/his own.
β
"Brightheart counts. She HAS to count."
"Actually, Cloudtail took over her trainingβ¦"
[demented noises]
β
Turns out that Ravenpaw is alive and no one β no one β in the Harper Collins Extended Universe is happier than Tigerclaw.
"You're alive! β¦You deserve your warrior name!"
"Actually, I've come to peace with my name and my way of life. I have no need for aβ"
"GET YOUR FUCKING NAME RIGHT NOW RAVENPAW OR SO HELP ME STARCLANβ"
"I know you really wanted Ravenpaw to become a warrior," Barley says gently, "but he's made his decision. It's very kind of you to acknowledge that he deserves it, though. You must have been so close as mentor and apprentice."
Tigerclaw's eye twitches. "Yes. Close. Very... close."
β
He finally, finally retires as an elder after his plans go absolutely nowhere for years on end.
And maybe StarClan is still like "Brambleclaw would be chill actually, we can forget that pesky little law" and Tigerclaw is sitting there like "excuse me what the actual fuck?"
β
But at this point Tigerclaw is about as dangerous as Ashfur without a freak forest fire. Which is to say about as dangerous as using a leaf as a weapon. Which is, incidentally, how Darkpaw managed to get himself killed in the first place.
β
"Is this the Dark Forest? This has to be the Dark Forest. It doesn't look like Thistleclaw described it, but it must be. This Clan is all an elaborate punishment meted down by StarClan for my sins."
"Tigerclaw, sir, I'm just here to help you with your ticks. See? I have the mousebile right here."
"β¦Yes, thank you, Alderpaw."
β
Graystripe joins him in the elder's den and he's like, "You know, Ravenpaw thought you were up to some⦠scheme, back in the day. Crazy, right? You've been a model Clanmate as long as I've been alive."
[muffled screaming]
"Huh, what do you think that is? It sounds almost like someone killed a rabbit, but they know not to come this close to campβ¦"

So, Swiftpaw won the story poll, which means i get to deep dive into my story for him. This is subject to change, as i havent finalized the plot past arc 2.
Anyway, under the cut bc it got long
Theres no change to his parentage in this rewrite, still the eldest son of Goldenflower and some loner, one difference is that he isn't a single litter. His sibling, Lynxshine, is here too.
Named after the bird and not the trait, Swiftkit was, in fact, fastest kitten in the nursery, with constantly abundant energy and a bad habit of saying unintentionally hilarious stuff and accidentally insulting other cats. He and two of his denmates, Bracken and Thorn, often played rough and competed with eachother in camp races and mossball, but their collective energy often got one of them, or someone else, hurt or disgruntled.
There were two cats he liked playing with the most that werent in the den, though. Ravenpaw and Tigerclaw. Yes, you heard me.
Ravenpaw was fantastic with kits, he and his denmates loved to sit around and listen to the tom tell wild stories of battles and historic leaders. But that stuff was of the far past, Tigerclaw offered more recent stories, ones that other cats- even his mother- could confirm and add onto. Tigerclaw had a soft spot for kits, you see, so he played with them in the times when he wasnt brooding or plotting his next move. Not wildly, not even particularly well, but the kits loved to play with him.
Anyway, swiftpaw.
As an apprentice, he learnt to manage his energy a bit better, especially under the mentorship of formerly-batshit-kitten Longtail. Unfortunately, this was still in Longtail's asshole Tiger supporter era, so Swift ended up getting kind of pushy towards the other apprentices. He and Thorn developed a rivarly that never really stopped, but as apprentices, it wasn't too friendly. At the end of the day, though, he got along well enough with his denmates. When his littermate came out as a Half-tom (demiboy), he was his number one supporter.
It was around the start of his apprenticeship that Tigerclaw and Goldenflower became mates and, unfortunately, Swiftpaw started to look up to him, as the brave, strong warrior Thunderclan thought he was. He idolized him, even, like his mentor did, and his mentor before that. He quickly started bragging that his dad was deputy, that his dad was the brave warrior that avenged the old deputy and killed the horrible Oakheart.
When Cinderpaw got hit, and Darksong moved to Thunderclan to train her, he picked fights with any cat that would so much as look at either cat wrong. Thankfully, a lot of the senior warriors seemed oddly calm about Darksong, and once Yellowfang started snapping at those who made remarks too, he calmed down mostly. He did, however, get in trouble for nearly clawing another apprentice's ear off at a gathering for such a comment, though. It was less of a "that wasn't right" punishment and more of a "your right but we cant let you get away with violence" punishment
He got increasingly snappy with other clan patrols when he came across them, a bi-product of his step-father's manipulation. After all, he was a strong warrior that protected his clan, of course he wouldn't be friends with other clans.
And then, of course, Tigerclaw was outed for his plan. And his world came crashing down. His father, the father of his soon-to-be-born siblings, was not only a fraud, but a murderer. He had not only killed the former deputy, but Swiftpaw's own uncle, Lionheart. Who was also the father of his denmates. For a while, he became very avoidant with them, too ashamed of his former praise to look them in the eyes. Eventually, Brightpaw calmed him down, and told him nobody was mad at him. He hadn't killed Lionheart, Tigerclaw had.
Unfortunately, not every cat saw it that way, and some of the other cats- the elders particularly- started whispering about him and his behaviour, about how he acted like Tigerclaw, how close he was with him, even pointing out similarities in pelt and body, despite them not being blood.
This was at the same time as his younger siblings were born- Bramble, Tawny, Snow, and Mistle. And you bet that all of them were viewed in a bad way. But this made Swiftpaw worse. Unlike his littermate, who isolated himself from the glaring cats, or his sister, who went and joined Shadowclan, Swift got angry. He got angry, and defense, and wildly protective of his siblings.
When a fire swept through the territory, Swift gathered his siblings and herded them out. But he didn't get Bramble, who had hid from the noise of the scramble to get out. When Swift discovered Yellowfang, his brother's mentor, died because Fireheart had gone back for Bramblekit, it only worsened things.
But that wasn't the last of it. Mistlekit would fall dangerously ill with Greencough in the same moon that Snowkit got snatched by the hawk. He and Bracken chased the hawk until it went past the thunderpath, and he nearly got ran over trying to go after it, only saved by a quick acting Brackenfur. He was sure his baby brother was dead, he was only a few moons old, he couldn't possibly survive a hawk like that. But, thanks to a certain Shadowclan warrior, his brother was saved, if very injured. This didn't stop him from blaming himself for it, like Brackenfur did. If he had been faster, if he had saw the hawk, if he had been watching his brother instead of his sister-
And then Bluestar refused to make him a warrior. That was, essentially, his breaking point. He was held back for moons, his mentor said he was ready, and yet the disobediant tom that was Cloudpaw was allowed to get his warrior name.
He overheard from one of the elders a way that thunderclan used to give out warrior names. Back in tigerclaw's time and before, they used to have to perform something big to prove their loyalty. Swiftpaw remembered hearing about the dog in Sunningrocks, and immediately went to tell the other apprentices. They refused to go with him, knowing it was dangerous, even when Thornpaw too was annoyed at being held back even longer. But he was deadset, he had always been stubborn, but his emotions had been pulled taught by the last few moons, and Brightpaw knew it. So they went off to Sunningrocks.
I don't think i need to describe what followed.
When he awoke, he was covered in bandages, several days later, with his brother reapplying some of them. Brightpaw laid beside him, even more injured than he was. And he realised he almost got her killed. Almost. She had woken before him, but not by long. Bluestar entered the den, giving them a dying apprentice ceremony, naming them Losthope and Dogbite respectively.
And then he discovered his leg had been broken beyond repair. Not enough for removal, but very broken. When he eventually recovered enough to stand, he found he couldn't move his foot at all. Alongside that, he had permenantly lost a few teeth, which messed with his speech, and had some nasty chronic pain. His brother called him a miracle. He had scarring all over his neck, his stomach had clearly been ripped open to some amount, and yet he was alive with far less lasting damage then he should've had.
Lynx, Cinder, Bracken, and Thorn helped him and Bright through their physical therapy. His younger siblings, all healthy by that point, and his mother supported them through it all. He was still angry at being named Dogbite, but it had been a wake up call for him. His rash, angry behaviour, trying to be 'the best', had nearly gotten him and his friend killed.
When Firestar became leader, he was almost called Swiftwing, but wanted to match with Brightheart. And so, he became Swiftheart.
He changed after that, quite significantly. He stopped being so aggressive, he started to unlearn the toxic behaviour Tigerclaw had taught him, and he started being friendlier to other clans. He fought against Tigerclan fiercly, and ended up meeting Gorseflame.
At first, they began talking at gatherings and border patrols, but then they started meeting up, staying behind after gatherings, sneaking out of camp. By the time The New Prophecy happens, he's in love with Gorseflame. They keep it secret, shockingly effectively, mostly thanks to Lynxpaw and Darksong, both of whom were aware of it.
He participated in the Great Journey, and got even closer to Gorseflame during it, becoming mates with him by the time The Power Of Six (Arc 3) came around.
This is where the plot and his involvement gets a tad blurry, but overall he survives the Great Battle, makes the second Great Journey to the new-new territories, and, once cross-clan mates became allowed, had a litter of kits with Gorseflame, with some surrogate help from a Windclan molly.
He became a respected warrior, admired for his bravery and determination.
His kits became Nighthop, Dawnsplash, and Dayshine, with Dawnsplash living in Windclan.
He witnessed the deaths of Bramble, Lynx, and Snow, but was outlived by Mistle.
At the end of Arc 4.5, he notices his vision is going, and rather quickly, one eye more than the other. He didn't know wether to blame this on his old injuries, or a family thing.
Eventually, though, he was sent out with Sandstorm and Alderpaw, and maybe some others, to bring Bloodclan to the territories, and gave his life to let them escape from a pack of dogs.
As he died, he wasn't angry at dying to a dog. He was an elder by that point, he knew Gorse and their kits would be distraught, but he knew Brightheart wasn't expecting him to come back alive. He had done everything he wanted.
He had even taken the dogs down with him, only succumbing to his injuries as he tried to walk and catch up with his clanmates.
In the end, Alderpaw and the others found his body, under a tree, surrounded by the bodies of dogs, on their way back to the clan, and carried him all the way back, alongside Sandstorm's body, and buried him on home territory, with a speech done by his siblings, kits, and mate.
So I have this AU I'm working on where Ashfur basically gets everything Brambleclaw would have gotten (becomes deputy, then leader, mates with Squirrelflight, has kits, etc.) and Brambleclaw leaves with Tawnypelt in TPB. I'm not sure if I should add another small part where Leafpool gets together with Brambleclaw instead of Crowfeather because I think that sounds kind of interesting?Β
β--------
Submitter by an anon
I like this. Bonus points if brambleclaw leaves after the hawkfrost incident and ashfur is still a controlling horrible guy.
AU where even after the rabbit injury, Longtail didn't retire because his stubborn personality meant he refused to dwell on his injury, and just trained so that he had a good sense of smell and hearing.
Longtail actually got chosen as deputy after the Greystripe gets taken away by two-legs, and becomes deputy instead of Brambleclaw. The Dark Forest attempts to corrupt him fail, and he eventually becomes Longstar. I haven't hashed out the details yet, but yeah, Longtail becomes leader instead of elder.
Oh! He would definitely mentor Jayfather in this scenario and not let him be bullied into become a medicine cat by anyone I imagine.
Honestly Longtail has always been one of my favorites.

Hiya! I have a au where squirrelflight witnesses ashfurs death, basically just, squilf sees holly leaves, follows her, then watches her kill ash.
Oh! Now would she turn hollyleaf in, cover for her, help her hide the body?
Squirrelflight and Hollyleaf's dynamic is always one of my favorites. Though if I'm remembering correctly they barely talk I'm the books despite being mother and daughter.
