milori listens and looks down at clarion intently. his eyes, typically hard and stoic and anticipating the need to make decisions for the good of his realm, was soft and open and solely focused on his love — the way she fiddled with the buckle of his cloak, the way her lashes were still sticky with tears, and the way she smelled of flowers and fruit and sun. the sight of her like this was almost enough for him to forget about the heartbreaking reality that their time together, like this, was running thin.
"i know what you mean." milori replies, knowing quite intimately what kind of pull the border has. there were countless evenings and midnights where he finds himself wanting to linger near the tree root and stare wistfully over at the warmer seasons and daydream of the queen who held his heart. milori rests his chin atop clarion's head as she snuggles closer. "clarion," he begins, his brows furrowing. "you know, you are not just your title. i see you as the queen of pixie hollow and clarion because they can both coexist at once. of course, you'll have your fairies who will see you as just their leader, but to those close to you? i'm certain they see you, too, as i can." though, selfishly, he hoped it wasn't like exactly how he saw her.
it surprises him when clarion asks if he was angry at her. so much so, that it takes him a second to understand what she was truly asking. milori pulls back slightly, just enough so he could gaze into her eyes. "no, clarion. i'm not angry at you." milori says surely. while it was clarion's idea to keep their realms and each other apart, milori understood — he agreed. too much would be at risk if they continued on as they had. milori couldn't fathom clarion getting hurt, and the simple thought of losing her like that kept the misery he felt being away from her at bay. "i miss you, of course. and i feel ... it hurts, sometimes. but i know of duty well, and so long as you're safe..." his words were harder to find. "i'm not angry. i promise."
