dragon age traps be like
rogue:
warden: walks into a trap and bursts into flames
rogue:
rogue:
rogue: watch out for the trap!
“We’re gonna explode? I don’t wanna explode.”
Serenity Starters
“We’re not going to explode.”
The giant fireball that had just exploded on the path ahead of them suggested otherwise. The dragon had seemed so small at first; just another bird on the horizon as they walked down the lonely dirt path. By the time they realized what they were dealing with, it was too late. The beast was already upon them, giant fire ball and all. Thankfully, the dragon had gone back to circling the area. Looking for a bigger, better snack, perhaps?
Elodie wasn’t about to stick around to find out.
“We’ve just gotta stay low until it moves on, yeah? Hide in some bushes or something. Unless you wanna fight it...” There was no way the two of them could take the creature on by themselves, but man, if they had to go, what a way to do it.
Your Nathaniel is such a hottie wow 10/10 will climb like a tree
“Oh god, oh god, we’re all gonna die?”
Serenity Starters
“That’s what I’ve gathered, yeah.” It was a somber subject, but after hearing about the Calling, and the end that all Wardens had to look forward to, Elodie couldn’t not tell the others. They had every right to know what they signed up for... even if it was too late to do anything about it now.
“I mean, look at it this way; everyone’s gonna die eventually. At least we know when it’s coming.”
“There is nothing left to see.”
Serenity Starters
That was easy enough for her to say. It was one thing to hear about what was happening to the Wardens in Orlais, but seeing it first hand was an entirely different experience. Some of her closest confidants in the Wardens had been mages; would they have fallen prey to Corypheus just as easily? Would she give in, if the Calling became too much for her?
The Inquisitor was right, though; these mages were dead now, and they needed to keep moving. No point in dwelling on it now, there were plenty of sleepless nights ahead for that sort of thing.
“Are they all like this? The Wardens, I mean. Sure, I suppose this explains why none of my missives ever made it through to Clarel, but… shit, this is bad.”

"When you wash your face, how do you know how high up to go?"
“It would be best to avoid the eyes,” he advised, though it doesn’t take long for a skeptical gaze to fall upon the other. “Should I be concerned, da’ asa’ma’lin?”
“Contrary to popular belief, I do, in fact, bathe. My head, though lacking hair, would not be neglected.” He pinched the bridge of his nose and sighed, “Da’len, why was this question ever given voice?”
Maybe he was right; maybe this was one of those things that was better left unsaid. But she’d come this far. She just had to know. “It’s not really your bathing habits I care about, Teach. I guess what I’m really getting at is, how do you know where your face ends, and the rest of your head starts? If there’s no hair there, how do you know?”
He doesn’t miss her reaction to his use of magic, though he does not comment on it like he often would. She was doing him a favor not many would offer, and to ruin that now when she came willingly and even eagerly, would be a foolish turn of events. That doesn’t mean that Solas is accepting of her rejection to the magic he wielded — to the magic anyone wielded. If it were possible, he would show her all that magic had to offer, all the possibilities and wonders, and yet… He knew he could never do such a thing. The only way he knew how was to rid this world of the Veil, and he very much doubted she would thank him for such a thing.
Once she speaks, Solas takes the time to observe the old ruins around them. It looked relatively well kept, except for the chatter deeper within, the laughter and rough tones. Bandits? It is quite possible they managed knock down some of the weaker walls to invade the temple, but what little they could find in here and understand would not be worth much to their kind.
“Patience, falon. I suspect there will be a conflict soon enough,” he points to some recently excavated tombs to the right of them. There’s a look on his face, far different than his neutral facade, full of anger. “They are fumbling with things they do not understand.” He avoids telling her what it is they’re looking for, too irked to find the words, and at a loss on how to truly tell her.
“Come. You will put your daggers to use yet.”
He wastes no time. While Solas was mostly patient and calculating in his battles, it is in this moment he shows his once reckless abandon, that youthful fiery in a riot. He wishes for it to be over quickly, but these raiders care not for his wounded pride, his anger at their defiling of a sacred tomb, and more on the fact that only two elves were going up against a small army of bandits. To anger Solas, however, is one terrible mistake they will not live long to regret. While streneous, it does not last long, and Solas hardly spares the bodies on the ground a second glance. A quick emotion, perhaps something he’ll regret later. Did these men have families, children? Did they have people waiting for them?
But for now, something else has captured his attention, the glinting dagger in his companion’s hand.
“That dagger,” he starts, moving closer, “Where did you get it?”
Finally, some action! His fighting style is a lot more... aggressive than she was expecting. Not that it’s a bad thing; it certainly makes their little battle more exciting, and his magic pairs well with her own reckless approach.
The bandits obviously weren’t expecting company, and even though the elves were outnumbered, the small hoard was no match for the little ambush. It was almost disappointing; there were so many of them, and it was over so quickly... Still, she checks their pulses when they’re finished - no point in leaving one alive to surprise them later - and the temptation to pick their pockets is overwhelming. She hasn’t wanted for gold in a long time, but still. Old habits and all that.
Maybe she can give them a second look on the way out? Solas doesn’t seem interested in lingering, and this is his quest, after all.
“Oh, Fang?” She was surprised that he had anything to say about her weapon of choice. Elodie loved talking about her dagger - the Tabris family heirloom, and it was used in the battle against the Archdemon! - but normally, she was the one who brought it up. “It was my mother’s. It’s been in the family for-” It suddenly occurs to her that she’s not sure how old the blade actually is. She feels her heart sink, as she remembers the mother no longer around to answer such questions, but she recovers quickly. “-Since the war for the Dales, at least. That’s what she used to say, anyway, Maker knows if that’s even true. Holds up pretty well for being so old, yeah?”
"When you wash your face, how do you know how high up to go?"
“It would be best to avoid the eyes,” he advised, though it doesn’t take long for a skeptical gaze to fall upon the other. “Should I be concerned, da’ asa’ma’lin?”
“No, no, I was just... You, personally, since...” She makes a few vague gestures at her own head, before realizing there’s no good way to ask this question. “You don’t have any hair, how do you know where to stop?”

[The worst thing in the world is when I’m on another character’s blog, and they post something, and I think of the PERFECT PUN, but I can’t use it.]

He would have gone alone, if it were not for the Inquisitor insisting he bring along another hand. What he looks for is ancient and hurtful, old memories locked away, powerful tools he would come to use in the future to bring an end to this one. Another elven artifact, he told the Inquisitor with a clipped tone; the Inquisitor understood of course, just as Solas expected from such a thoughtful being. It did not ease his guilt any less.
“Thank you.”
His voice is softer than normal, but there is a sincerity that gives it warmth. The trek has been long so far, but he keeps them guarded from the cold with a simple enchantment spell. Elodie had come all this way just for his sake, and it would not please him to see her ill on his behalf.
“It will not be long now, ma’ falon,” he informs.
With little warning, he braces the palm of his left hand against a sigil on an old, withering stone gnarled by vines. At his touch, it burns like fire and lights up, old words of their people long forgotten whispering around them like a quiet breeze.
“I suspect you were not eager for this task, but it is important to me that I find myself here.”
She was happy to accompany him, wherever he needed to go. Really and truly, he had done so much for her, and Elodie Tabris hated nothing more than being indebted to anyone (formally or otherwise). In fact, she was relieved when he approached her about this little quest; it meant finally repaying all of those favors. It didn’t hurt that the trip had been surprisingly pleasant. They’d even found time to work on her reading, something that was still slow going, but improvements were being made.
Shit, magic. She hopes (but also, sincerely doubts) that he doesn’t notice the way she flinches. She’s traveled with mages before; befriended them, even, for better or for worse. And while her old prejudice had long since melted away, Elodie knew she would never get used to seeing magic used so casually.
“No, it’s not that. I’ve done far worse for less, it’s just...” There’s no polite way to say it, but if that’s what he really wanted in a traveling companion, he would have asked someone else. “Look, I’ll be honest, Teach. When you invited me along, I was expecting there to be more... stabbing involved. What exactly is it we’re after, anyhow?”
