Today was like any other day, I was beyond sleep deprived, but I got up and got ready to go to school. So out of it, by the time I got there I didn’t notice the extra staff around the school, or the multiple police cars parked in the lot, patrolling the overly familiar halls. Upon entering the much dreaded math class, we all took our seats and began going over the answers to a test we took last week. After a good twenty minutes passed the intercom went off, and the assistant principal’s voice filled the silenced classroom. He instructed the teachers to inform us of the thing they discussed that morning. My math teacher instantly moved to her desk, taking a seat at her chair she cradled a box of Kleenex. Now I could tell something was off. So the math coach took the initiative, her voice cracking as she began tearing up. Pulling out a letter she started to read it, informing us of a fellow student’s passing, that they had taken their own life.

My class, notorious for being loud and obnoxious, remained silent, for this person was in our grade, this person was one of our own. No one knew what to say, a few questions were asked such as to why they did it, but we never received an answer, not that we expected one to be clear.

This person had taken away their own life, and donated their livers and kidney to three needing people. Despite the good of the donation, and how grateful they must have been for said organs, we were crushed. Everyone left first period to move to their next classes, and suddenly the aura of the school was off set, everyone grieving for the loss of their fellow student, classmate, and friend. It was then that people began to break down. Teachers were absent and in tears, and so were students.

Even if you feel that nobody in the world cares for you, or that the world would be better off without you, it is not true. There are people that care about you, and the world would be at a loss because of your passing. If you ever need anyone to talk to, I’m without a doubt someone you can approach. I don’t care if you live in an insanely different time zone, or if you speak a different language, any of it, I don’t even have to know you. If you are having a hard time, talk to somebody, be it me, your friends, family, teachers, or a professional. There are so many other options than taking your own life.
