**SPOILERS FOR STRANGER THINGS SEASON 4!!**

First of all, happy Stranger Things Day to all who celebrate!

With the drop of the episode titles for season 5 today, I have some thoughts and theories I need to scream into the void XD **ALL REFERENCES AND RESEARCH WILL BE ON A GOOGLE DOC LINKED AT THE END OF THIS THEORY**

First of all, let me share some of the pre-existing theories that others have made and expanded on that are the basis for this theory. in-love-with-loneliness had a really great post about how Eddie's death does not seem to align with the typical pattern of deaths in stranger things. We never see his dead body. We see Dustin talking to him and crying over him but his body is intact and we don't see him truly dead. (They make a bunch of other great points go read their post XD) beaulesbian also had a really good post pointing out vecnas connection with everyone he has killed. It's confirmed he makes them a part of him. Still others in this fandom use the fact that the Duffer brothers outright said that the demobats on their own can't kill. Yes, Eddie was badly wounded but enough for him to die? Steve was attacked in the exact same way and he survived!

Steve restrained by vines and getting bitten by bats,

The same exact thing with Eddie. All the way down to the above-camera shot! (Both scenes also play out the same. Starts with a vine grabbing their neck, camera shot from the side, moves to a slow pan in from above with bats flocking over them and biting their sides.)

And yet Steve survives while Eddie dies. I find that a bit hard to believe.

Now let me introduce the Kas theory. In the DnD campaign the Curse of Vecna, there is a character named Kas the bloody-handed. A Vampire who is brainwashed by Vecna and becomes his right-hand man. I dont have time in this post to share all the evidence for the Kas theory and this isn't entirely what I'm trying to do here (just add to it) and plenty of others have written brilliant posts about it all of which will be linked into the google doc.

Today for Stranger Things Day we got the confirmed episode titles for all 8 episodes in season 5. Episode 6 is named Escape From Camazotz. Now I had never heard of Camazotz and genuinely didn't know what it was or even how to pronounce it XD A quick Google search told me that Camazotz is a Mesoamerican bat god, whose name means 'Death Bat' and is associated with night, death, and sacrifice. But even more importantly was a DnD monster. DnD Camazotz is a half-bat, half-man demi-god of bats, vampires, and the underworld. Please tell me you see where I am going with this. He also dwells on a parallel plane to the material plane, which if you aren't super familiar with dnd is basically just the real world. The central plane of existence.

Now if you thought I hadn't gotten tin-foil-hatted enough...

As I was researching Kas and Camazotz and Vecna and how they might all be related I saw that they had one common word that showed up on both the fan wiki for Kas (Grayhawk Fanon Wiki) and the wiki page for Camazotz (Great Library of Grayhawk). I am a casual fan of DnD and had never heard of "Grayhawk" so, of course, I went down a wiki rabbit trail looking up Grayhawk and how it is related to Vecna and Kas and Camazotz. Apparently, The World of Grayhawk is a DnD campaign started by Gary Gygax. From what I can tell it was supposed to just be a casual home-brew for him and his friends but quickly got out of hand (as these things are want to do lol) and became an entire world and campaign that played a role in the initial growth and development of the game. I will not bore you with too many details however there are a few things I want to point out. It seems that both Vecna and Kas were characters used in this game, and Camazotz was brought in, in a later campaign called Living Grayhawk.

A quote I pulled from the official wiki page for Grayhawk reads, "Gygax did not have the time or inclination to create the map for a whole new world; he simply drew his world over a map of North America, adding new cities and regions as his world slowly grew through ongoing adventures." perhaps... as if it were an alternate dimension laying over top of our one.. almost like...

the upside-down perhaps?

This is probably a stretch I recognize this.

However regardless of any Grayhawk connections, and where Camazotz came from, the connections between Camazotz and Eddie are quite clear.

Both Kas and Camazotz are bat/vampire gods related to Vecna and/or the upside-down. Eddie was bitten by bats (notoriously how you get turned into a vampire), and, as shown in the Kas theories I shared, he has many connections to bats, potential puppet/mind control, and shares weapons with Kas.

I propose episode 6 Escape From Camazotz is evidence IF NOT PROOF of Eddies survival, his potentially being brainwashed by Vecna, and at the very least his return in season 5!

Even I am not sure if I am entirely crazy or not at this point. Either way, I can't wait for season 5!!
