LEARNING TO BE

Everyone feels like everyone else, just not at the same time.

People are unpredictable.

Letting go is better than maintaining complete control.

Absolutely nothing good can come from over thinking things.

Love should facilitate not depreciate.

Don’t be a snob. Learn to appreciate all things, as all things have a purpose.

If something is excessively draining then remove it from your life. Life is too short.

Common decency is not an option-the Golden Rule.

Don’t meddle. It’s not your business to share or your consequences to face.

Never make superficial changes to satisfy someone else. If they would like you better for being something other than yourself then they don’t deserve you, simple.

Be mindful of how your actions affect others. Karma is the principle.

Don’t be dismissive. It doesn’t hurt to listen.

Don’t take sides on issues regarding two people you love-you will lose either way.

Don’t say anything behind someone’s back that you wouldn’t say to their face.

Own up to your own bullshit.

Everyone needs someone to listen to them; it’s a small effort that makes a big difference.

Never get so busy making a living that you forget to make a life.

Life is a work in progress-it’s ok to feel aimless at times. Even the most talented artist knowns when to put the brush down and come back.

To really know someone you must see them in their element, not yours.

Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference.

Live with your heart open-be free to feel and learn.

Believe in possibility but don’t rely on it.

Unlearn the leisures of instant gratification.

Be the change you wish to see.

Losing is not the end of the world; take chances.

Don’t overcomplicate things. Do the right thing even if it’s hard.

It’s ok to be selfish, just not at someone else’s expense.

Learn about yourself.

We see others not as they are, but as we are. Life has endless lenses.

Don’t rush-leave early. It saves you the stress and the risk.

Never stop appreciating or showing appreciation for the things you love.

Admit it when you’re wrong.

Don’t say things our of impulse or anger-words can be forgiven but are rarely forgotten.

”The older I get, the more I realize the value of privacy, of cultivating your circle and only letting certain people in. You can be open, honest and real while still understanding that not everyone deserves a seat at the table of your life.”

This is one of the most important lessons that I’ve learned in my life. So often we find ourselves in relationships that are based on inertia, too nervous to cut the cord because you can’t seem to justify letting someone go for some reason or another. You’re worried they will accuse you of changing, when honestly it would be compliment for them to acknowledge that you aren’t the same person that you once were–life is about constantly learning and becoming. It’s ok to have healthy boundaries, it’s ok to say goodbye to relationships that don’t serve or grow you. Unless they earned a spot at your table they don’t deserve one.

It can be a really enlightening experience to view all of your mishaps, missteps and losses as teaching moments. I didn’t always get the things I wanted on my journey but I got a lot of other things that I wouldn’t have had room for if I had. 

Feeling really grateful for my moments of darkness.
