Always unsure of you
Alayne Stone... recently became obsessed with Babs Webb's art, specifically the cover she did for Innamorata by Ava Reid, so i was super inspired by that for this hehe
Janos Slynt
In ADWD, Jon executes Janos Slynt and in that manner fulfils Sansa’s wish made in AGOT. A number of people have noted this parallel and it’s implication that Jon is one of Sansa’s unseen heroes. However, there are those who argue against this interpretation because of GRRM may have originally planned a hanging to be the method of execution and that he might’ve been influenced by fans pointing out at a reading that Jon would go for a beheading like Ned.
I find this argument weak because it’s assuming the method of execution undoes the fact that Sansa wanted Janos Slynt to be executed for his part in Ned’s death.
“Frog-faced Lord Slynt sat at the end of the council table wearing a black velvet doublet and a shiny cloth-of-gold cape, nodding with approval every time the king pronounced a sentence. Sansa stared hard at his ugly face, remembering how he had thrown down her father for Ser Ilyn to behead, wishing she could hurt him, wishing that some hero would throw him down and cut off his head. But a voice inside her whispered, There are no heroes, and she remembered what Lord Petyr had said to her, here in this very hall. “Life is not a song, sweetling,” he’d told her. “You may learn that one day to your sorrow.” In life, the monsters win, she told herself, and now it was the Hound’s voice she heard, a cold rasp, metal on stone. “Save yourself some pain, girl, and give him what he wants.“ - Sansa VI, AGOT
Sansa was the only Stark POV in King’s Landing to have witnessed Janos Slynt’s part in Ned’s death. Arya doesn’t make note of him; only Sansa does. She’s the one, who wishes for his death to avenge Ned and this isn’t the last time that Sansa has vengeful thoughts about him.
“Morros of House Slynt, heir to Lord Janos of Harrenhal.“ "Look at that upjumped oaf,” Joff hooted, loud enough for half the yard to hear. Morros, a mere squire and a new-made squire at that, was having difficulty managing lance and shield. The lance was a knight’s weapon, Sansa knew, the Slynts lowborn. Lord Janos had been no more than commander of the City Watch before Joffrey had raised him to Harrenhal and the council. I hope he falls and shames himself, she thought bitterly. I hope Ser Balon kills him. When Joffrey proclaimed her father’s death, it had been Janos Slynt who seized Lord Eddard’s severed head by the hair and raised it on high for king and crowd to behold, while Sansa wept and screamed.” - Sansa I, ACOK
In the tourney on Joffrey’s nameday, she hates him so much she wishes for his son’s death so that he can hurt like she did too. Although she feels guilty when the possibility of his son’s death this way becomes real, she still doesn’t cast away her bitter thoughts about Janos Slynt himself.
“Nervously, she rubbed her stomach. The angry purple bruise Ser Meryn had given her had faded to an ugly yellow, but still hurt. His fist had been mailed when he hit her. It was her own fault. She must learn to hide her feelings better, so as not to anger Joffrey. When she heard that the Imp had sent Lord Slynt to the Wall, she had forgotten herself and said, “I hope the Others get him.” The king had not been pleased.” - Sansa II, ACOK
Here is a hint that she didn’t care how he was punished or how he would die, just that she wanted him dead. What’s also interesting about this quote is that these are her thoughts when Slynt is sent to the Wall (where Jon is), when she doesn’t even know the Others are real. It’s an indirect tie connecting the characters. It’s a bit like Cersei mentioning Sansa and Jon’s treasons and their “traitor’s blood” one after the other in AFFC.
GRRM wrote it that way. Instead of Tyrion killing of Janos Slynt whom he deeply mistrusted (and Tyrion toyed with the idea), he transported that snake all the way to the wall, and not just to any castle, no to Castle Black, just so that he could end up being killed by Jon.
The manner of his death is completely irrellevant - well, of course it is not completely irrelevant, but for Jon to be Sansa’s hero it is irrelevant.
