In some “yandere” genre works, there are characters who go so far as to cut the heroine’s Achilles tendons to keep her from escaping, or who resort to violence as punishment when she misbehaves. But I personally think the Batter would be the complete opposite, a type of yandere who becomes excessively, almost disturbingly overprotective.

Terrified by the thought of losing the Player, the one who leads him, the Batter would probably confine them in a place only he knows about. But this act would stem from nothing but pure love and devotion.

The Batter can’t stand the idea of the Player getting even the slightest injury, so he wouldn’t allow them to cook. He wouldn’t want them handling knives. He wouldn’t even let them hold a pair of scissors, so when their hair grows long, he would carefully trim it himself. And when it comes to their emotional wounds, he would try to heal those too. At night, he’d lie in bed with them, holding them gently in his arms. Even after they’ve fallen asleep, he’d keep running his fingers through their hair with quiet affection.

The strings that connect the Batter and the Player would eventually transform into chains, meant to ensure the Player never drifts away from him.
