I've gotten a couple of messages like this lately:

Yall I do not keep track of what blogs I "interact with" unless it's a mutual. I don't even follow these blogs. And by the time I saw the messages, both accounts had already blocked me.

I've been using this app the same way since 2010. I scroll, I reblog what I like. Sometimes I follow blogs I like, but I don't introduce myself to them when I do.

I like messages and questions, but leading with "who are you" as though I'm knocking on your door is unbecoming. If you don't want people you don't know interacting with your posts, I have some bad news for you about blogs...

My very first time in Boston. I was absolutely miserable, trying to drag my giant suitcase up a lengthy set of stairs in the pouring rain. This guy who had already reached the top looked back at me with the most pure expression of disgust I’ve ever seen in anyone’s eyes, marched back down the stairs, grabbed my suitcase, carried it to the top, left it there for me, and walked away without ever saying a word. Never forget that propaganda utilizes emotional appeals and leading statements to provoke reactions, and that it RELIES on the ignorance and reactionary response of its' audience. Propagandists like Kirk are counting on the fact that no one is going to stop and fact-check what they say, and they reinforce this by barreling on and not leaving time for things to be absorbed or contradicted. They do not cite sources unless the sources agree with their argument. They do not debate; they talk over people.

The only reason a fascist EVER agrees to a debate (and the reason they continue to demand them) and that they count on two things: an unprepared opponent and a platform to further their own message.

No one is immune to propaganda, but by knowing how it works and remembering to think critically and fact-check the claims you come across, you can be better prepared and less likely to be duped into agreeing with or passing on bad information and bigotry.
